It essentially comes down to which player West Coast want more, Reid or Curtin. If its Reid keep pick 1, if its Curtin trade down to pick 2 from North and take their compensation picks off them for 2024.

What if we don't want Curtin?

The one and only good thing about all these Academy bids and bullshit is that it kicks the can a lot closer to Collards pick 40.

Pretty sure we still haven't got an answer from the VFL if they'd review our NGA rules this year? Didn't Rohan ask and made mention of it in that radio interview recently?

Even if it was matching bids at 30 rather than 40 we'd be totally safe with Collard this year IMO.

Aha sorry, there’s a photo with it on the North Board but I couldn’t attach for some reason. It’s basically that we like Tarkyn O’Leary and he won a time trial or something.

I think that could deliver 2 top 4 picks in 2024 and the midfield options look great at the pointy end. There would be a real possibility that we get pick 1 and 2 in 2024. Hell - manipulate a contract do we let a player like Barrass go as a FA next year and get 1 2 and 3

We then focus on anything but midfielders this year

The 2nd round (our 2nd pick) starting at about 28ish . Easy for the afl to say you can match after the first round

This has all started because the Eagles contacted us (and I assume North) and said they're quite open to trading pick 1 and have said what they'd be expecting.
No idea what they've asked North but either way they're asking for a lot so whichever of us or North do a deal (IF a deal gets done) it'll be somewhere in the middle.

Late round picks are overvalued (points wise) compared to first round picks so that’s a great deal for Freo. Eg would you swap pick 4 for pick 17 and 18 this year? No way. That market is prepared to pay 10,17 and a F1 (nominally 10) =3815 point which in itself is worth far more than pick 1.

Eagles didn't need to approach anyway, they already told the world that they'd listen to offers but the offer would need to be extremely good.
