I'd say he's probably reasonably happy to be doubling his salary and signing likely the biggest and longest contract he's going to get over his whole career
How many best 22 players have left us over the last 20 years?

We're a great club and players generally don't want to leave. It's a shame if we have pushed him out IMO as Jetta was uncontested. I haven't listened to the interview yet.

I doubt we pushed him out, I'd say Sydney talked him into it using big wads of cash. It's no big deal, people regularly move across the country for good job opportunities. He's probably sad about leaving all the mates he's made but at the end of the day he's better off career-wise and it takes him closer to his Victorian family and friends.

So you bring up 2 examples of clubs playing hardball and losing out on players, I bet there have been plenty of times where teams have played hardball and still got their man.
As a skilled multi-national corporation negotiation trainer yourself, can you explain the mindset behind say no to a deal on the first day and wanting more out of it, and then accepting that same deal 2 days later on day 3 (not 4) of the trade period?
Actually I must of been one of the few people who was not present in the room/on the phone and have NFI how the negotiations progressed so I cannot give you the clarity you seek. What I have heard and read is limited. We have snippets from the media, from agents, from someone who talked to Peter Jetta, from speculation, from analysts and from passionate fans. We had very little directly from the clubs involved and an agreed communication plan on the issue. Last thing I will say on this - you keep harping on about us caving in and being soft. We are not privy to start points, previous list management discussions, understanding first mover premium, previous intimate history between the clubs, strength of relationships with parties involved, alternative offers, coaches desire for next year's list and game strategy, any previous discussions between Swans/Eagles on Jetta, player's wishes, season exit interview, BATNA, etc that it is naive to try to offer opinions as to who won and who lost.

Sinclair interview here. You get the feeling that it kind of came out of the blue and he wasn't much of a fan of it.
Never really wanted to lose Sinkers, would've hoped 36 + 37 could've done the job, would rather miss out on Jetta than to push a player into a move that he didn't really want, especially after doing pretty well this year.
He doesn't sound too bad really, seems like he would still have been happy to stay here even if he was the 3rd ruckman as long as we wanted to keep him long term, but he felt like he had no choice but to go to Sydney because we couldn't guarantee him a contract beyond 2016 unlike Sydney (esp if it was 4 years). I just hope it was ultimately his decision in the end, he couldn't quite confirm whether he had the option to stay or not if he refused the trade though, hopefully there's not too much to read into that. Seems like a really great bloke, sad to see him go, but probably the best thing for his career, since Lycett is the long term option.
Best of luck to Sinkers for the remainder of his career, hope that he does really well at Sydney. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

99% of what people say on this board is their opinion or speculation, if all we had to discuss was facts then there'd be about 3 posts a day. So by your logic we can't discuss our opinions of games anymore because we're not privy to coaching strategies, match selection meetings, training sessions, team meetings, medical reports etc etc
And I didn't ask you for what actually happened, I asked for you to delve into your extensive negotiating/training experience (which you big-noted yourself with) and explain the mindset of saying no to a deal on the first day of negotiation and then caving in 2 days later and accepting the same deal that you originally said no way to.

Wasn't it Simpson who said that? And it seemed like he was joking about it at the time as well.
Yeah I thought that was the case too. Would love to see the actual quote in context.

Gold Coast gain: Rosa, Pick 10
Gold Coast lose: Dixon

Port Adelaide gain: Dixon
Port Adelaide lose: Pick 10, Ah Chee

Haha wtf?

Yeah but that was his role at Claremont , rucking and resting forward so more truth than mirth
Saw a few Claremont games in 2012 and Gov did play that role. Role was more CHF then a run in the ruck. Provided he gets his body right, it is a role he does well but needs to be tested against the bigger and harder AFL ruckmen. In the Sharks v Tigers GF of 2012, he turned the game when he went head to head with Griffin. Not saying Griffin is AFL top drawer but that game Griffin looked AFL top drawer until Gov went for a negating spell on him.

The gov has also been on record saying his preferred possie is in the back line.people thinking he is a ruckman all of a sudden are nuts.no way he rucks anything outside the forward 50

I like that Apex looks a sound deal for all three clubs Rosa the "steak knives" with pick 10 for suns port cough up their first rounder and ah chee to get their key forward theyve been after and we swap out rosa for ah chee who looks a promising type, bundle picks to a club who needs points for academy players for a pick that would hopefully allow us to land his brother

Meh I didn't hear anything wrong with what the club did.

Sydney came in with a bigger (evidently not as big as reported but still) and longer.

We weren't prepared to match at this point, which is perFectly fine.

He weighed up the opportunity and rightly took it.

He is bummed sure, Eagles are on the rise, he has mates here and really if he could get the same mulla and contract length in Perth he'd be loving life.

This is all pretty standard imo.
