I would think about Lewis Taylor for some midfield depth. Not getting as many games.

Him and Acres, prefer Acres.

Thats presuming we dont get either Kelly or Conligio

Taylor is fast but can't kick worth shit, it's why he can't get a game. Plays a similar game to Colyer at Freo in that regard.

Plenty
If the Media / Geelong reckon Kelly is worth two first round picks as a starting point I wonder what Yeo , Shuey type players would be worth.

The media and Geelong nuffies don't get how trading works.

If I had a free choice between Yeo and Kelly I would pick Yeo. Obviously I am biased as a WC fan but I've also seen Yeo's last 3 seasons. He's a jet and has all the tools. According to at least one Geelong nuffy Yeo + our first round pick for Kelly is fair. Righto m8.

The fact is Yeo and Shuey are contracted and not looking to leave. They don't have a real value because they aren't up for trade. If a club came asking about Yeo and tempted him with a $1.5m a year contract or something I imagine we'd want two firsts, depending on where the suiting club was on the ladder. That's about the max going rate without players being involved. If a top 4 side offered us pick 17/18 and a future first I imagine we'd just flat out say no.

Dylan Shiel was worth pick 9 and a future first with a future second going back the other way a year out from FA. They wouldn't have got that this year. By the same token I'm sure Gold Coast would give Geelong pick 1-3 for Kelly but Kelly doesn't want to go there so it's irrelevant. They *might* draft him with nominated terms if it came to that but I doubt it. You don't want to commit big money over 5-6 years to a player who has already told you he doesn't want to go there.

Our most valuable trade asset right now is probably Yeo, then Darling or McGovern then Gaff. All of their values are sliding because they are 26/27 so whoever picks them up is looking at 5-6 years of footy for their outlay. If Allen keeps trending upwards he could take the #1 mantle in a year or two. A key forward kicking 30-40 goals in a season at age 21/22 would have huge value.

Its a good problem to have.

How many rookies can we delist and then move some seniors onto the rookie list.

Watson will stay, if he doesnt Freo will snap him up and he will play round 1.

Three of Murtimer, M Alen, Ah chee or Nelson plus McInness and another 1-2 rookies will be turned over. Bines and or Riach but Cat B rookies arent a issue.

And potentially a fringe player involvrd in a trade or Brander.

Dare I say it but Masten could retire.
Yeh. It sure is difficult.
Josh Smith, Watson and Harry Edwards are on our rookie list and you would not delist any of them. The Cat B Rookies don't count.
That leaves McInnis and Brooksby as the only other Rookies on the list.
McInnis could be given a job at the club and stay on as captain of the Beagles. Brooksby is a keeper at this stage unless we pick up another ruck in the draft.
But not much wriggle space as far as opening places on the list.

I wouldn’t prioritise KPD yet. Allen can role back, Rotham is a good third tall option and Edwards is promising.

Would look for an elite kick though, a potential a Hurn or Jetta will be needed.

Wouldn’t lose sleep over Smith.

He’s not quick. Never rated him and always laughed that people actually wanted him.

Poor mans Daniels.

The Herald Sun is running a series of trade and list articles and today it's West Coast. I will temper it by saying it is Brendon Goddard who has very little track record in that space.

So we need to replace Schofield despite him not being best 22? If that's our biggest concern, we're in good shape. I'd have thought readymade replacements for Kennedy and Hurn are far more urgent. Allen is thereabouts as a key forward and we have good depth in small/medium defenders (Sheppard, Cole, Duggan, Rotham, Nelson) but replacing those guys won't be easy.

I wouldn't underestimate Smith.
He is a very good player slowly getting back to his best after a serious injury.
Prior to that injury he was regularly getting 25+ possessions for Collingwood and came 7th in their B&F.
He is tough, fast and has the best tank at the club. His kicking is elite and he can play both inside and outside as well as in defense.
He was only delisted by Collingwood due to his injury and they were desperate for cap space with Beams.

Agree with that - plus Mickey Ablett stated that he thought Brander was the best KPD in the 2017 draft and he looked pretty comfortable in the back end of 2018 in the WAFL. I would have wanted to play him down back ahead of Oscar.

Rotham has good kicking skills so I see him as a Hurn replacement. Cole has decent accuracy but not the penetration of Jetta or Hurn.

Interesting that Bailey Williams played a KPD in some games for the Stingrays last year and did OK so.

Ainsworth or Brayshaw?

I’m not criticising our drafting overall that year (have said enough on Kelly). But hopefully we’re keeping in contact with Zurhaar’s management.

If Gaff does want to go home, and North are still keen, Zurhaar could be involved.

Thought you were looking at the starting 22, as you were.

Gaff just signed a long term contract, why on Earth would he be wanting to go to Norf after that whole saga?
