Should we do Pick 9 and pick 25 for pick 6 and pick 37?

If we could do that I would say yes.

Depends on whether there is someone we rate (ie Coffield or Fogarty) who will be gone by pick 9 but we can get at 6.

But I reckon we can get 2 nice key defenders at those picks and it sures us up.

Unless we shake Lynch loose expect nothing outside of the swans kid. As noted, happy with that. Time to regroup.

Next year is a massive trade period, Lynch, Greene, Sloane are all available, we must snag at least one. View this trade period as setting up for hte next one.

Tom McDonald and Tom Lynch are our prime FA targets and if successful Sloane and Greene won't happen.

Imagine if we sign Schache this year and then miss out on Lynch in 2018 because we've 1. wasted salary cap capacity, and/or 2. have already got Moore, Cox, Reid and Schache as KPF options, and/or 3. his much discussed personal issues mean he never attains the required standard for senior footy or is missing for large chanks of the season.

We're not that desperate for a KPF unless ultra cheap in terms of trade value and a low contract for minimal time.
Getting Schache to me is neither here nor there. However, imagine if we could of got Schache cheap but didn't.

Last year it was reported by many that we would get Lynch last year. When that failed, it was reported that we were loading up for him this year. Now its next year. Imagine if Lynch rebuffs us for a third time and accepts a mega deal from Carlton, and Reid retires.

knowing our luck, that probably will happen.

Anyone thinking about Schache might reconsider ...

COLLINGWOOD legend Michael McGuane has put forward a damning assessment of Brisbane forward Josh Schache.

The Magpies great says it was foreseeable years ago that the former No. 2 draft pick would struggle at AFL level — and believes the Lions were misled by a TAC Cup rule technicality that blinded AFL recruiters to the power forward’s terminal shortcomings.

McGuane on Tuesday told SEN Breakfast the Lions bought a lemon when they recruited Schache off the back of his extraordinary performances in Victoria’s U18 TAC Cup competition.

TAC Cup football is played under density zoning rules designed to avoid players bunching around contests.

Under the density rules, two key forwards and two key defenders must remain inside the 50m arc even when the opposition has the ball in the other half of the ground.

McGuane says the rules allowed Schache to benefit from extra space inside his forward 50 and concealed his inability to compete when outnumbered in pack marking contests.

He said the rule hoodwinked the Lions.

He also appeared to accuse Schache of running scared in AFL footy.

“You watch him in a contest at AFL level, he reaches for the footy at times, he turns his body sideways, he avoids contact,” McGuane said.

“Now that may be a subconscious thing that can be clearly removed from his game — and I hope so at 199cm. He needs to be smashing packs and either marking the ball to creating crumbing opportunities for his smalls.”

Yeah... no thanks.

On top of this... he wanted to go... then signed a 2 year contract extension and wants to go again before that contract begins.

And...

Was given the rest of the year off to "rest" instead of playing in the brisbane neafl finals campaign and Premiership team.

I mean who doesn't want to play in a Premiership team and prefers to have an extra month off???

Its a BIG NO from me.

Tom McDonald? Melbourne have been screaming for a key defender and they play him forward. Pass.

I'm not sure the Dees actually needed a KPD this trade/draft period (other than possible longer term development types) with both Tom and Oscar McDonald and Sam Frost already on their books. Guess that's why they invested so much in a 3rd tall intercept defender rather than an actual proven KPD. Personally, I'd have gone with what they have and go to the draft.

Yep agree. Also think there’s an element of the great white hope that was quickly overtaken by hipwood and his ego took a hit, hence “I want to come home because I shouldn’t be playing in the twos”

They plan on playing Tom McDonald as a forward, not sure why we would be interested in bringing in both Lynch and McDonald when McDonald has shown he is better as a forward

Any find it strange we have almost no key defender depth? To get rid of keefe and schade with no replacements seems odd. Reid is a week by week proposition with his injury history.

Hope the club has a master plan.

there was commentary about round 20 that they wanted a big defender to handle the gorillas.

Happy to disagree. He's shown he can play forward but to date a much better defender. May change with greater exposure to a forward role, time will tell.

When they could just have played Tom Mc in that role as he's shown in the past he's more than capable. Maybe Oscar Mc and Frost aren't up to playing forward.

Certainly hope that's what they've recruited Lever for, will be fun to watch.

and to be honest. even if we make a play for Schache we still can for Lynch next year. with Reid getting on. and Dunn over 30 Moore can always play back

So sacrifice 1 of the best KPF prospects in the league to a defensive role so we can still carry Schache in our F50. Sounding more attractive by the moment.
