Any find it strange we have almost no key defender depth? To get rid of keefe and schade with no replacements seems odd. Reid is a week by week proposition with his injury history.

Hope the club has a master plan.

Keeffe played forward all last year in the 2's.

I read Sam Murrary has been playing half back during the entirity of 2017

Anyone thinking about Schache might reconsider ...

COLLINGWOOD legend Michael McGuane has put forward a damning assessment of Brisbane forward Josh Schache.

The Magpies great says it was foreseeable years ago that the former No. 2 draft pick would struggle at AFL level — and believes the Lions were misled by a TAC Cup rule technicality that blinded AFL recruiters to the power forward’s terminal shortcomings.

McGuane on Tuesday told SEN Breakfast the Lions bought a lemon when they recruited Schache off the back of his extraordinary performances in Victoria’s U18 TAC Cup competition.

TAC Cup football is played under density zoning rules designed to avoid players bunching around contests.

Under the density rules, two key forwards and two key defenders must remain inside the 50m arc even when the opposition has the ball in the other half of the ground.

McGuane says the rules allowed Schache to benefit from extra space inside his forward 50 and concealed his inability to compete when outnumbered in pack marking contests.

He said the rule hoodwinked the Lions.

He also appeared to accuse Schache of running scared in AFL footy.

“You watch him in a contest at AFL level, he reaches for the footy at times, he turns his body sideways, he avoids contact,” McGuane said.

“Now that may be a subconscious thing that can be clearly removed from his game — and I hope so at 199cm. He needs to be smashing packs and either marking the ball to creating crumbing opportunities for his smalls.”

Those rules apply to all though whether it be Schache, Moore, Boyd, McCartin, Weitering etc etc.

If Schache was benefiting then so was everyone else.

Personally I'd be making a play still if the offers coming are only second round selections and/or fringe players.

If you land Schache for $350,000 and he starts to live up to potential then it'll be a steal and we won't need to sell the farm for Lynch at 1.2 million a season.

So sacrifice 1 of the best KPF prospects in the league to a defensive role so we can still carry Schache in our F50. Sounding more attractive by the moment.
perhaps sacrifice one of the best KPF for the BEST KPB. we don't know what we don't know unless we try it.

The issues Mick sees in his game are exactly the kinds of problems I've seen when watching him at the Gabba. Bullied out of it too often and just doesn't look like the type who can play the way you would want a 199cm KPF to play.

But yeah, a relatively cheap back up KPF possibly.

Tom McDonald? Melbourne have been screaming for a key defender and they play him forward. Pass.
The drums are beating...

Two things, pass on Schache and why isn't Mick at the club? He's another Graham Wright waiting to happen

I'm not sure the Dees actually needed a KPD this trade/draft period (other than possible longer term development types) with both Tom and Oscar McDonald and Sam Frost already on their books. Guess that's why they invested so much in a 3rd tall intercept defender rather than an actual proven KPD. Personally, I'd have gone with what they have and go to the draft.
I think the plan for them would be to have O McDonald and Frost to hold key posts, Lever to play the 3rd tall role and T McDonald to play forward with Hogan. At least that’s what makes the most sense to me with Weideman still not looking like becoming a regular fixture.

But why, when it's widely accepted that KPF's are much harder to find, would you want to make 1 of the best going around a defender? Especially when your only justification for doing so is to accommodate a flaky KPF who may or may not ever live up to the potential shown at junior level. Shift a potential gun for a hmmmm maybe.

I doubt there'll be too many games going forward where we'll see more than 2x uber-large 196cm+ KPF's in our team so that'll mean 2 of Cox, Moore, Reid plus any potential trades/drafts. Why even contemplate a Schache trade if we're any sort of chance at Lynch? Especially as Schache is currently behind Cox in any pecking order.

If it was Lynch you're talking about, then I could see the justification.

I, for one, cannot wait for Thursday afternoon so i don't have to hear any more of this cacky Schache bullshit.
If we miss out on him this year...we can always reload & have a full on crack at him next year.
We could also set up a ‘Schache watch’ thread...to track his daily progress.

Port Adelaide getting everyone....We're picking up a dude from Swans rookie list....ffs
Port have done exactly what we were bitching about Collingwood doing this time last year. Can't win.
