Do you really think we are in desperate need of a KPD?
With a full and fit list, it is perhaps one of our lesser needs

In addition we have a couple of young defenders coming through (McLarty, Kelly)

Yeah that's true. I struggle with our groups durability and the fact our preferred starting pair of Dunn and Shaz are likely to miss a significant chunk of the season. I think we lack certainty back there and we need at least one senior key back that we can rely on to be there.

I haven’t ready the article or chat because simply Herald Sun is full of scumbag journalist more interested in social stories than on field matters so could be completely click bait which I’m willing to bet it is. However if St Kilda are considering trading Billings we should be all over it. Kid has a bucketload of talent if the asking price was right and we had players they could be interested in to package with picks (Langdon, Elliot) I’d take the gamble.

Not really the type we need so I wouldn’t pay overs, would welcome on the list.

Would not waste my Time.

Do we Really need Billings Now as we have Good Forwards?

I'd bite if it's a cheap deal. He has the talent and may mature a bit later in life then some of his drafted compatriots...even people who have rough up bringing can.

Im sure D.Swan had the pies leadership group pulling their hair out in the first 4 years too.
I think GWS has been waiting for him to mature for as long as he’s been there. He’s not getting in trouble for off field stuff he just struggles to do the little things the club ask of him. Whether he matures with that, who knows?

Backup anyone???

The veteran key defender is one of the Swans’ most reliable servants. He didn’t miss a game in 2017 and made 20-plus appearances for the ninth consecutive season. He was also a joint-winner of the Paul Roos Award for Best Player in Finals alongside Kieren Jack. Grundy, Jarrad McVeigh and Dane Rampe have a lot to offer young defenders like Callum Mills and Lewis Melican as they continue to develop.

Draft history: 2005 Rookie Draft selection (Sydney) No. 42; 2005 rookie elevation (Sydney).
He has taken time away from the game to deal with mental health issues. Swans hope to have him back in a few weeks. Some suspect he will retire at season's end.

Just a rumour I heard yesterday.

Solid player IMO.

To me in bringing in a new players from other clubs just ask one simple question?

  • Will this player be a top 22 player?

If it’s a no, then no thanks to the player.

Caveat: only a specialised player back up can be considered eg back up emergency ruck like a Ben Hudson.
Otherwise just leave alone.

There is a feeling he will call it quits at seasons end.

I get the feeling with Moore, that the club wont budge on their original offer to him that has been there for months now, and he needs to decide if he will sign or explore his options. If he decides he wants out, l dont think the club will bend over backwards to keep him either. Am l reading this right?

Our midfield is pretty stacked, but we are still somewhat light on for creative, line breaking mids as we've seen since Treloar went down. We can't rely on Wells ever doing anything, so it's an area we need to keep exploring.

Billings would fit this mould pretty well, he is more winger/high HF than dedicated forward these days. Suspect he'd probably cost a bit more than we'd be willing to part, but he'd be worth looking at.

Got No Idea on Clubs Stance.

I've always wanted Billings, and his name always comes up! The problem with him at St Kilda is that there's so much pressure on him to perform and be one of their best players, that it just isn't happening.

I'd back him to come good in our forward line or midfield with the players that would be ahead of him.

Just don't let him take set shots.

Probably cost too much despite under performing, however.

They would at least ask for a 1st Round Pick

I reckon they'd ask for first rounder + knives and that's too much considering. I'd trade him straight up for our first rounder though. I honestly think our need for midfield flair is just as pressing as our apparent need for talls.

Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Adams, Sier, Phillips/Mayne/Aish (has pace, but tends to play safe a lot of the time) on wings. It's an extremely one paced midfield. Treloar is the only genuine line breaker we have in there, the rest we rely on coming off the back flank with Maynard, Crisp etc.

I agree and have felt this way for a while. Felt that we recruited/ drafted the same type of contested midfielder who didn’t have exquisite kicking skills or line breaking pace (Treloar the only one with genuine acceleration).

That’s why I thought that Wells was worth a gamble. His body hasn’t stacked up, but we saw in the first year his worth to our side with his agility, creativity and kicking skills.

Why did you have to say Wells to Gaben?

Interestingly, likely draftee Isaac Quaynor is now being played off the wing at Oakleigh. Hopefully he is another one that can rotate onto the wing eventually and add some line breaking run.

But yeah, if we can't land a KPP of quality then I hope we trade-recruit a speedy outside player.
