An aside question.

Is it worth missing finals for a better draft pick considering our injuries?

  • I’m against that - always go for wins and higher positions

I’m sick of not playing finals so it’s a no from me. Where we sit, we need to take a Geelong/Sydney approach. Top up on some good mature age players and draft a couple of kids. We are already in line to get Kelly and Quaynor if we want them. Now it’s time to get someone with some experience to take us further up. (Assuming we don’t win the flag this year ;) )

I think they’ll be gunning for Blakey and a first round pick to take to the draft.
I think that’s probably a bit ambitious given Blakey is looking like a top 10 prospect isn’t he?

I would be for bringing in H.Grundy even if it’s just for one year. Window is open, go for it.
The chill is coming in.
Shut the window please.

Probably get bashed for this but would really love Josh Bruce in the forward line instead of Miocheck/Reid

Varcoe Bruce Degoey
Elliot Cox Stephenson
We might have number 27 at least ready for him.

But not for me, I’m afraid,

Would love Billings, The Saints put a stack of pressure on him to be there next star.

Pies would play him on a flank/wing and wouldn't have anywhere near the pressure he currently has atm.

Trade Moore to Sydney for the first round pick they get for Hannebery or Lloyd. Negotiate with GC to pay overs for May, being this year's first round pick and the Moore pick. GC then tells Lynch they will allow him to go to Collingwood as a F/A or they will match the offer. Net result:

GC loses Lynch and May but save face by landing 2 first round picks and pick 3 as F/A compo.

CFC lose Moore and a first round pick. Gain Lynch and May.

Sydney lose Hannebery or Lloyd. Gain Moore.

We all get laid.

He has two years to run on his current contract so don't see him going anywhere. Saints are supposedly going to trial him at FB. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

If they’re offering the money that they’re rumored to be, then I don’t think they’ll have much choice but to offer a first.
I agree with this, and frankly, IMO we hold the cards here.

From what has been reported, it seems we have an ongoing offer to Darcy on the table. The offer hasn’t been rejected, however the pies are offering based more on output, but Darcy wants a contract based more on potential and market worth. Fair enough.

But it’s clear from his management comments the relationship isn’t fractured between player and club and the offers aren’t so far apart that a deal looks very unlikely.

If the Swans come at us with a 2nd offer (and I wouldn’t put it past that smug shit Harley and Co.) if I was the pies I would reject with prejudice and advise any further offers that don’t include a 1st round pick will see talks ceased. Done! Piss off!

We traded Nathan Freeman for a 2nd pick, and he was a pick 10 midfielder who couldnt get on the park for a single game. Darcy was effectively pick 4, 200+cm 21/22 year old that can literally play any position up the spine both ends and is a great relief ruck, and probably the most mobile KPP in the league all over the ground. We all would have liked to see him step up this year, but his body hasn’t allowed that, but he does have exposed AFL form showing what he can be. He has had his injury worries no doubt, but has the scope to be AA both bloody ends, though I accept that is very speculative - and is probably 4-5 years from being at his peak!

His recent hamstring troubles have probably taken his trade value from a 1st and 2nd/3rd round - to probably a straight first round pick in the middle.

So if Sydney want to prize him - pay up. Or are they going to go to Darcy (and by consequence of reputation every player in the league), and tell him that although they **** teased him all year, a 2nd round pick is all they will give up or it falls apart. What a great look - letting the guy you romanced all year high and dry saying he was undervalued down by undervaluing him.

They want to tell Darcy to hit the draft? They have their 1st round locked away already with Blakey. They might get a 2nd with a trade of Hannebery or someone - but do they and Darce want to roll the dice no one will swoop before the swans first live pick? Want to put Darce in that position? We still have a good relationship with Darce, and it would be clear to all who ****ed the deal, and maybe our year long offer we have t rescinded despite the injuries doesnt look too bad compared to being drafted by Carlton.

End rant.

TLDR - you can **** right off Sydney if you offer a 2nd rounder.

Why give away a nice draft pick when it’s not necessary.

I’d keep Moore unless Carlton want him and say Wills for pick 1 ie read Lukosius or as Dave might call him LukiCoitus

(Word play on your suggested after trade activity)

Because I'm sure if given the choice, GC would prefer to be taken out for dinner and dancing by us once as opposed to being clumsily fondled in the back of a Camira by 17 other clubs year on year. This way we can get both our guys right now and GC can keep it's credibility whilst rebuilding.

So you go with the Frasier Crane model:

  • I like to be finessed

Scott Thompson is a free agent go and get him for 18 months.

Still playing good footy.

Thompson is an arseh*le. Good player but wouldn't want him at the club.

Neville Jetta resigned? Would be a nice like back pocket has been a star for Melbourne past 2 years.

Jetta would be an awesome get. I could get behind that one. Is he a free agent or would we need to trade?
