People do understand that other teams could have been including future picks in their packages to Brisbane right?

Brisbane then can use those future picks to amass more selections this year with clubs that will need them next year

and who will they trade all those future picks back with?

There’s 4 teams who are obvious ones Brisbane could trade 2025 for 2024 picks otherwise they’re just trying to swap a 2025 third for pick 40 odd this year when this years crop is deep.

Us
Melbourne - 1500 points
Pies - 950
GWS - 900

So it’s basically the same situation (of course other trades will happen and maybe Sydney who want picks next year get something) but with extra steps hoping teams want to trade out of a deep draft.

Do people realise that we made the trade with the Lions using picks we were unlikely to use anyway. When we get the deals done that we are working on, we'll have all the picks we need within the first 25 picks in the draft. Secondly the Lions weren't going to do the deals they did unless they knew they had enough points acquired to match the bids on Ashcroft and Marshall. So we were never going to get the deal done for complete garbage picks. Finally the picks that we have remaining at 51, 61, 70 & 76 will all come in and improve in value once the Lions & Suns use all their picks to match bids. So we can either take a late pick if a slider is available or we can use those picks to trade to other clubs who may want to get someone they want and we can trade into 2025.

How many list spots do we have and how many picks did we have?

Richmond will use pick 20, it is very doubtful they were going to use 42,43 and 45 (those picks are not going to be used for sweeteners in the Rioli, Bolton or Baker trades).

You could then argue it is a pick upgrade from pick 32.

Richmond is not acquiring points to use for Father Son/Academy picks, it is acquiring high end picks to rebuild.

Does anyone know why Pies always talk about needing KPP and then trade week roles around and they target 2 half backs or last year a fat little hobbit?

Is it just to appease the fans that they're doing something?
They have a couple of the architects behind the Richmond dynasty running the show in Leppa & McRae so they just keep copying and pasting what we did back then

Meanwhile the Eagles now will not have the No.14 pick to trade for Richmond vice-captain Liam Baker.

Baker had pledged himself to the Eagles, who had repeatedly promised him they would secure the trade collateral to get him home.

They have pick 3 and would use that in a pick slide with Richmond to secure Baker but Richmond’s list boss Blair Hartley is not interested in that deal.

So there is a real chance Baker might find himself at the Dockers, who have picks 10, 11 and 18.

They are keen to give away 10 and 18 to the Tigers for Shai Bolton, but would be prepared to offer up 11 for Baker.

Baker is getting his head around whether he moves to the Dockers or considers alternate plans.

In theory he could head to the Eagles through the pre-season draft but he has always been keen for Richmond to get some compensation.

And the Eagles’ inability to get a deal done for him will not help their dealings with his camp, who now have to scramble to get him to a club where he is happy to play.

The Tigers would also have to consider whether they would accept a future pick for Baker.

We currently have 1, 20, 24, 51, 61, 70, 76

Rioli and 51, 61, 70 for 6, 23, 78 (Give GC all of our remaining junk points picks, and take 78 (0 points value) in order to have a Bauer upgrade / PSD pick)

Bolton and 23 for 10, 11, 18 (We get our value and Freo keeps a 1st rounder so they can still do the Warner deal in 2025 for 2025/2026 picks without being restricted by the "you haven't used enough first rounders" rule)

Baker and 11 for 3 (Better deal for West Coast than that 12/14 Carlton hypothetical dished up by Jay Clark, and we keep pick 10)

6 and 20 for 2 and 44 (Guarantees us first 3 draft picks and lets North still have their Tauru pick [44 is looking like what Sydney will get for Luke Parker, but surely Sydney would rather North's future 3rd, given their solid 2025 Academy crop]; If we got 44, allows us to trade...)

14 for 18 and 44 (Gives Carlton extra points for their 2 father/son bid matching; they're looking very low on points right now, especially after they just traded out their future 1st/2nd... their next pick after 14 is 69)

Finish with 1, 2, 3, 10, 14, 24, 76, 78

Pick 5 gun kids and trade 24 for a future 1st / pickup a slider
Upgrade Bauer with 76
Take Konstanty as DFA / PSD Pick 1

Maybe need to pay some of Rioli/Bolton's salary for a couple of years to get it done, but surely we have the cap space to make this happen after our departures.
My brain hurts.

The selections next year are worth less points so no they couldn’t have done what you are suggesting without paying a premium… unless clubs want the picks and not the points.

Pick 20 is gold , can't understand why people think we got shafted we've upgraded rubbish
To a valuable pick In a rebuild

Can't believe the whinging, pick 20 for 32 and a bunch of picks in the 40's we weren't going to use anyhow given our likely huge first round draft hand.

Let's get the Bolton, Baker and Rioli trades done and see if we can draft the core of our next premiership side!
I am amazed at how unreasonable People are. When you make a trade with someone both parties have to feel like they have met a need. Brisbane need points. They are not going to trade their first round pick unless they increase their total points.
We need high draft picks. We traded our points for a round 1 draft pick. We can only deal with clubs in the market for points. Brisbane are that club. Few others are.

It is a fair deal and Blair should be congratulated for it.

We should have worked deals to get both pick 20 and their future first.

Even in this trade we should’ve got their future 2nd as well. It’s a really poor trade, we’ve nearly doubled their points and haven’t leveraged our pick 1 position.

Just remember they will likely be one of our top competitors when we turn things around, especially keeping their first pick in 2025 whilst landing two top prospects.

I wonder why Blair wouldn’t be interested in a pick slide involving pick 3? Makes no sense.

If there is a single list manager in the league that couldn’t get that deal done I would be concerned. The only way I could see this as a win is if we land pick 13 from GC as a result.

Just because BigFooty thinktank says it should be doesn't make it so.

Your premise is based on Brisbane wanting to trade their future first, Brisbane may have different aims and objectives regarding the use of that pick in 2025.

Keep Bolton to his contract if Freo don't pony up. They initiated these talks and we were never that KEEN to move him on. His family should have thought about WA before he signed the 5 years. This whole charade is a disgrace on Freo's part and that little germ Bell can stick his good deal up his ass. Those purple losers are like Facebook Marketplace buyers.

I am so happy we are playing hardball. 1.Bolton is a special talent that is under contract 10,11 is barely acceptable. He is contracted for 4 years and will still be great when we get good again. More than happy to keep.
2. Rioli will be the second best player to ever walk in to GC. This is the club that gave up pick 2 for Mav Weller. On that basis Rioli is worth 6x pick ones. 6,13 is a bargain for GC for Rioli. Rioli is a legend of our club, current B&F, the coach badly wants him and he is under contract.
3. Baker, Freo, WCE have no hand. He thinks he does but if he walks he comes straight back to RFC. Plus he is a honourable guy. He will not accept us being shafted. He is worth somewhere between 10-15 in this or next years draft.
The great thing is the club has no pressure to do any deals. We just sit there and wait. If the phone does not ring, then so be it.
The media are irrelevant in these negotiations. They say outlandish things trying to get clicks. It is all very sad. Blair knows what he is doing and we will end this trade period in a stronger position.

but why??? surely Brisbane would not get better than what you suggest and if they do not like it, number one Ashcroft.

It is like Blair is working against the club, in what universe does that help us??

To me Blair gets value wrong more often than not
Finally gave up and had to reply to you and your uneducated posts on this trade.
Mate, Blair has been doing this job for an eternity and knows exactly how trading and the draft operates. From an insiders perspective, you know nada, he knows everything. Have some faith, I mean he only delivered a dynasty list a few years ago.

I wonder why Blair wouldn’t be interested in a pick slide involving pick 3? Makes no sense.

I think it is because they would want pick 6. I also think we have no intention of trading pick 10. Pick 11 is probably the pick we want to trade up with if we can get it. WC will probably be keen on that pick because they should get Allen there.

The reason I don’t think we want to trade a top 10 pick is because of the players available in the top 10.

FOS
Smith
Lalor
Langford
Draper
Smillie
Reid
Armstrong
Taura
Travaglia

The way things are going we’ll probably see the bottom 3 gone by pick 10, maybe 2 by pick 6, which means we can load up on gun mids. Yet if they aren’t picked up by 10 we have a need for each of them.

Adding 3 on top of 1, 6 & 10 would be awesome.
