I doubt we'd try too hard to pluck a contracted player out of the bombers given the way they operate at the trade table.

Hobbs hasn't had much of a go in the Bombers' midfield, so is probably worth keeping an eye on next year, but he does have the same weaknesses as Taranto and Hopper so may not be the right fit for us.

Not directed at you Bob but why are so many jumping at an article that probably has no basis? This time of the year, the media throw names and clubs together to generate interest and most of the time, it’s hot air! Unless our club, and the players Manager come out and say they want to trade to happen, I don’t believe any of it. We’ve been linked to so many deals in the past that prove to be cr@p and untrue. And Blair has shown in the past that if the other club asks too much, he will walk away. Cerra a good example, even the Hopper trade, Giants wanted more but he stood firm, Kosi too when Dawks were after a second rounder for him. If we rate Hobbs, we won’t overpay, of that I’m sure.
And yesterday, Goodwin unequivocally says Petracca AND Oliver will 100% be at the Shemons next year, and I watched the mid week tackle on Fox Footy and those muppets were still trying to say it’s still a strong possibility the players could move clubs. They just try to make a headline, ignore them until actual facts become known.
This draft is strongly rated and I did read somewhere that Francis Jackson and others came back from the U16 carnival 2 years ago and said we needed to load up in this draft. And that’s what I reckon we will definitely do, as the noises about Bolton, Rioli etc all indicate we will ask for a handsome return to release them from their respective contracts.
It’s gonna be torture waiting for the trade period to arrive and end, especially with these journos throwing out ideas and making them look like fact.

MIDFIELD LOGJAM COULD FORCE PRIZED DRAFTEE OUT OF DONS​

Essendon hard nut Ben Hobbs could become the first major victim of the Bombers’ midfield logjam and search for more senior opportunities at a new club next season.
Hobbs, who had played only 10 games this year, has attracted interest from clubs as a ready-made onballer who could made an immediate impact in new colours next season.
Rivals are expected to ramp up their inquiries at season’s end in a bid to lure the 20-year-old out of Tullamarine where he has fallen out of the regular senior midfield mix in the back half of this year.
Collingwood could make a play to bolster its onball brigade and take the physical load off Nick Daicos, while Richmond had strong interest in Hobbs in his draft year.
Contracted ruckman Nick Bryan is also expected to become the most in-demand ruckman of the trade period after showing some encouraging signs in his past three senior hit-outs.

After a disappointing finish to the season coach Brad Scott is expected to make some strong decisions on the list and in particular examine the surplus of midfield talent at season’s end.

Full forward Peter Wright has struggled for form this year and has also been dumped to the VFL.
The Bombers currently have pick nine to use in a draft thick with more midfield talent at the top end and will also welcome clever small forward and next generation academy member Isaac Kako.
A bid for Kako is expected to come around pick 15-20 as the top small forward in this year’s draft pool.

Sheldrick is a very good player. Was he injured this year or just couldn't crack into a strong and healthy Sydney team?
He would be a smart one to target as he probably wants more opportunities. Sydney's midfield is pretty stacked and young as is.
