He's a big slug rather invest in Fawcett and grayYeah but he will get it back at this end
As long as it's not a SOGGY biscuitGotta risk it for the biscuit
Not directed at you Bob but why are so many jumping at an article that probably has no basis? This time of the year, the media throw names and clubs together to generate interest and most of the time, it’s hot air! Unless our club, and the players Manager come out and say they want to trade to happen, I don’t believe any of it. We’ve been linked to so many deals in the past that prove to be cr@p and untrue. And Blair has shown in the past that if the other club asks too much, he will walk away. Cerra a good example, even the Hopper trade, Giants wanted more but he stood firm, Kosi too when Dawks were after a second rounder for him. If we rate Hobbs, we won’t overpay, of that I’m sure.Extraordinary our decisioning. I’m not confident we do what’s required now.
AFL trade news: Dees fail in pursuit of Dan Houston, Ben Hobbs attracts interest from rivals
MIDFIELD LOGJAM COULD FORCE PRIZED DRAFTEE OUT OF DONS
Essendon hard nut Ben Hobbs could become the first major victim of the Bombers’ midfield logjam and search for more senior opportunities at a new club next season.
Hobbs, who had played only 10 games this year, has attracted interest from clubs as a ready-made onballer who could made an immediate impact in new colours next season.
Rivals are expected to ramp up their inquiries at season’s end in a bid to lure the 20-year-old out of Tullamarine where he has fallen out of the regular senior midfield mix in the back half of this year.
Collingwood could make a play to bolster its onball brigade and take the physical load off Nick Daicos, while Richmond had strong interest in Hobbs in his draft year.
Contracted ruckman Nick Bryan is also expected to become the most in-demand ruckman of the trade period after showing some encouraging signs in his past three senior hit-outs.
After a disappointing finish to the season coach Brad Scott is expected to make some strong decisions on the list and in particular examine the surplus of midfield talent at season’s end.
At Essendon, Jye Caldwell and Sam Durham have cemented their position ahead of Hobbs in the centre square alongside skipper Zach Merrett, star ballwinner Darcy Parish and over the past six weeks, veteran Dylan Shiel.
Plus Will Setterfield had 43 touches in the VFL against Northern Bullants one week ago and youngster Elijah Tsatas, who was taken pick five in the draft two years ago, is also searching for more opportunities and could be engaged in trade talks.
Archie Perkins has also been dumped to the VFL after dwindling form.
Hobbs, who was used as the substitute in the loss to Gold Coast on Saturday might, has seen a reduction in senior game time after averaging 20 disposals across 18 games last season and only 13 touches across 10 matches in 2024.
It means Essendon could look to use its multiple picks in this year’s draft to reshape the list and, in particular, look for another developing key forward.
Full forward Peter Wright has struggled for form this year and has also been dumped to the VFL.
The Bombers currently have pick nine to use in a draft thick with more midfield talent at the top end and will also welcome clever small forward and next generation academy member Isaac Kako.
A bid for Kako is expected to come around pick 15-20 as the top small forward in this year’s draft pool.
But, after originally taking Hobbs at pick 13 in the 2021 national draft, Hobbs may only command a second-round pick in any trade as this year’s draft pool is strong.
Hobbs, from Horsham, signed a two-year contract last year, meaning he is out of contract next season when rivals could lure him out of Essendon for less if he remains beyond this season.
LOL
while Richmond had strong interest in Hobbs in his draft year.
LOL i was melting over a nothing article.
Richmond had strong interest in his draft year ... now we are thinking thank ****.
Likely we didn't draft him because we knew they were coming. I remember the melts when we didn't take an inside mid lolMaybe if we got Hobbs we wouldn't have traded for both Hopper and Taranto though. But now it would just be stupid to bring in a player like that.
They haven’t got any pics tho so they’d favour dealing with usThey'd play Prestia over him for his premiership experience. Would straight swap him for Hopper although reckon we are giving up the better player there.
I just can't see it happening. If the link is just that we liked him in a weak covid affected draft pool then I can't see it happening. Hopefully picks the Pies lol
A slug? He is going to be a beast. He's a big slug rather invest in Fawcett and gray
Surely no one giving a first for himThey haven’t got any pics tho so they’d favour dealing with us
Hobbs makes zero sense. He is like a mix of Taranto, Hopper and Prestia...
Why are we trying to bring in players who all have the same profile?
We need Tsatsas more. They obviously had big wraps on Hobbs in his draft year. If he is cheap enough then it's fine as don't think he has got a proper crack at Essendon.
Nah I prefer Sour Cream and Garlic Sauce moreWe need Tsatsas more.
NOT
Sheldrick is a very good player. Was he injured this year or just couldn't crack into a strong and healthy Sydney team?Well he is 20 years old and so makes him a lot different to Prestia and then on the same token Taranto and Hopper.
Wait for the PSD next year. Dodoro will ask for a mint if he is contracted. We wouldn't want to give up a lot.
Personally I'd prefer we go after Sheldrick from Sydney.
Another midget. Nah.Sheldrick is a very good player. Was he injured this year or just couldn't crack into a strong and healthy Sydney team?
He would be a smart one to target as he probably wants more opportunities. Sydney's midfield is pretty stacked and young as is.
Great call.
Overrated will be a bustA slug? He is going to be a beast.
Likely we didn't draft him because we knew they were coming. I remember the melts when we didn't take an inside mid lol
Zero chance he is a bust.Overrated will be a bust
Please sign him Collingwood.
WTF is going on at our club?
Trying to sign Graham even though eagles have offered him a 4 year deal, giving 3 year contracts to spud Ryan, dont want to let Rioli, Baker or Bolton leave.
What are we going to offer Essendon for Hobbs FFS? wouldnt surprise me if its pick 1. Dumb campaigners.
Why not play MacCauliffe? And we got Ross to slot back in as well. I don't see the need for Hobbs. And heaven forbid we actually play Sonsie in his rightful position on the ball. What if we are looking at Hobbs to replace graham
