Maybe how the club treated him in the last 6 games of his time with us.. but not on his whole career.

If SPS had of played the last handful of games we'd be talking about a player who was:
- a former pick #5;
- played close to a 100 games basically without missing a game (twenty games first season, every game in 2018 and 2019, missed one game in 2020)
- averaged 16 touches and 4 tackles a game over his career.

That's a better profile than a George Hewett, or a number of other players.

Teague really f’ed us with his treatment of Samo.

******* disappointing.

But he has one top 10 best and fairest finish in 5 years, something Hewett and Cerra have already outdone him on.

There is no doubt Teague messed Samo around leaving him in the backline too long but the player has to take some responsibility for his own lack of development and for someone who was a talented junior projected to be a future star he really is at the cross roads now.

The same will apply for Setters and Fisher if they don’t pull their finger out soon too.

Rendell "Why do Carlton want Lewis Young, they are loaded with KPP's"

Seriously, why do they have him analyzing lists

I can see it happening. Easily.

Don't think Samo is desperate to leave, he's probably just feeling like he's a bit on the outer, and WC would have been in his manager's ear ever since he got drafted.

May come down to whether Voss sees a genuine need or starting position for him. Hard not to with his skill set, and I'd ay Voss will back himself in to get Samo playing a suitable role with a bit more intensity.

He may not be "desperate to leave" but he has asked the club to trade him to another club. That speaks volumes. Doesn't sound like someone who wants to stay in Carlton.

Samo is one of our few midfielders that can play HFF - great to have him deliver the ball inside 50.
Can understand what they were trying to do with him off half back but in hindsight a major failure on both fronts - he struggled to be an effective defender and our delivery inside 50 is worst in the league.
Rare for a player to stay after requesting a trade, even given the change in coach might be an additional variable.

Should both be put up for trade IMO.

There's "I don't want to be at Carlton" and there's "I see a better opportunity for myself at WC". If it's the former, we're not likely to convince him. If it's the latter, it'll come down to whether Voss wants him enough to offer what WC are offering (football-wise).

Too old.

Geelong Board.

TDK is too young. Pitto is only serviceable. I used the word often before, but we need a good mature stopgap. Otherwise we need to just go the full hog and trade in a young #1 ruck.

Ceglar is pretty much the perfect age for our needs. Would certainly have another two years in him, which is when TDK should be really hitting his stride. Think he's also better suited to dropping back behind the ball when he's not rucking, whereas TDK is definitely more suited to resting forward. Could feasibly play both in the same side, Ceglar as 50/50 ruck/defense and TDK 50/50 ruck/forward.

Thing is.....I just don't want to have to trade for him. Would be a free agent at the end of next year, but the ship has sailed by that point. You'd want him at no cost this season so that he could work with TDK while he keeps filling out, then offer some experienced depth in 2023.

Yes agree, Ceglar or another similar mature Ruck, would be very important piece of the puzzle.

Will Marchbank be ok to play early next year?
What about Doc? Fingers crossed theyll both be right to go.

Am hearing media say we need defenders as Marchbank will be out most of next year. Didn't he do his knee in April?

Understand club might take a conservative approach, but means he should be close to being ready for Rnd 1

If Teague didn’t fu** him up we wouldn’t be demanding more anyway. There’d be more likelihood he’d be happier and settled at Carlton and not looking to move
gee wizz, will go down in history as the player most damaged by a coach.....

Yeah but he's scheduled for another 3-month injury in February - important to plan ahead.

Cunnigham much later later in the season and Charlie Curnow gingerly to start too.
Wow that 3 significant players unavailable for selection, with a player to1proceed with caution.
Not easy managing our playing List. Russell, Austin and recruiters must be doing somersaults.
