Arent these WC's current picks: 10, 29, 35, 52, 68?

Yeah, the tweet probably hasn’t taken in consideration the compo picks for Richmond (Chol), Sydney (Hewett) and Adelaide (Kelly). West Coast had Pick 49, now it’s 52.

Surely Freo would take SPS. I would rather he goes to free to Freo than get only Pick 49 for him

He has nominated West Coast. You can’t force him to go to Fremantle.

Heard Freo are not interested in SPS or Fisher. Think SPS’ problem is work rate. When you look at midfielders and think of the work rate of players like Walsh, Pretracca, Bont, Wines, and even other players like Boak, Bradshaw - in terms of work rate SPS is a long way off that. I’d love SPS to succeed at WC, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up playing WAFL.

49 became 52 after free agency compensations. Guy is using the list from last week.
Yeah but they will come in a fair bit. Collingwood look like getting picks from Gold Coast and those picks and Collingwood picks will disappear when a bid is made on Daicos. Might be up to 5 picks go there.

Dogs will trade their first rounder for highest pick value - will be either two or three picks that go.

Might be up to 8 mid range picks that disappear just for those two.

Yip and then dropping out of the system altogether.

Not sure the system works like that, let me put it another way...wanting pick 5 which is better value than trading him to the club he nominated, Freo try to trade Cerra to Hawthorn for pick 5, who do not want to take him for that price.

He is a very good player. He is not soft. He will flourish at West Coast (or Freo).

If he is closer to home. If he has family around and has a refresh, he really will be something.

If he says West Coast only, then fair enough. Give him what he wants. In future people will look back and say "oh look how good he has become at West Coast, it must be because Carlton cannot develop players". But reality is he needs to be comfortable outside footy and you will see what he can do on the field thereafter.

I will not regret him leaving only because there is nothing we can do to accomodate his needs. West Coast or Freo can and hence I am happy to allow him to be in an environment where he can flourish.

No I am not saying taking a pick from Freo. It is a lot easier walking about from pick 52 than it is Pick 6. What I am saying if is Freo wanted him (have just been told they don't) and he is happy to go to Freo (have just been told he doesn't), then simply put in him the Cerra deal purely as a bonus. But this is unrealistic given the don't want him and he doesn't want them.

if we hand over pick 25 as well as 6, Luke Sayers should frog march Nick Austin out the front door of Princes Parlk.

Regardless of the fact that is way overs for Cerra,it would mean our first pick in the draft is pick 64 in a year when there is only supposed to be around 50 players selected in the draft.. we probably get something in the 30s for SPS but still that is a horrendous draft hand, especially when we didn’t take a 1st rounder last year..

It has nothing to do with having a bad draft hand, it would mean it is the second time Austin has cracked under pressure. Pick 8 for Saad was overs and he should have traded down or got something back under pick 40. Pick 6 for Cerra is fair. Pay it and move on. Tell Freo if they don't take it by X date, it is up for trade and then the offer will be our 2022 first.

If we pay pick 6 and 25 for Cerra I agree - march him. Particularly as (taking off the navy glasses) last year was not great. Overpaid for Saad, massively overpaid in terms of salary for Zac Williams. The dogs player we picked up in the mid season draft has done zero and the ruck we drafted is very much a project player.

Pick 52 stinks.

Pick 35 borderline acceptable. Chalk it down as a loss and move on.
this board move on from a perceived trade loss? been here long can I ask?

Petraccas work rate was horrible his first 4 to 5 seasons, just saying 😬

SPS for a pick over 50 just no. Ask for 29. Settle for 35 with them swapping their pick in the 50s for our 61.

Then send the pick in the 50s for Lewis Young. I have never seen Young play, so zero idea if this is Austin paying for a player he previously drafted (SOS with GWS rejects mark 2 - some worked, many didn't) or a really good moneyball depth pick.

Getting Cerra to nominate is great for Austin. Quality player. Now pay pick 6 only because that is all he is worth.

Hewett from Swans is an excellent pick at 4x450k. Perhaps one year too many but I think he will be the recruit of the year next year. Exactly what we need in terms of work rate and culture. I watch a lot of Swans games, this guy does the 1%ers we need.

Big off season for Austin. People saying we are a destination club? Yes - but is that because people want to be here or because we overpay? We certainty overpaid salary and draft capital for Saad. Williams was very negligent (add McGovern to that under SOS in terms of draft capital and salary and Martin for salary). I am concerned we are screwing up our salary cap.

That's the negative view - the positive side says we have A graders on all lines (Walsh, Cripps, Weitering, McKay, Curnow and soon TDK). With good coaching and work rate, the run to top 4 and contenders is easy. I rate Voss, always have.

Big 12 months. Almost the biggest in our history.

Not privy to the exact details of the Martin contract but it was being discussed on trade radio last week. They said that Martin received nearly 90% of his contract in the first two years so is now on minimal money (I think approx $150-200k)

It's really not a better profile than Hewett

It's what their respective opponents did the other way as well. SPS doesn't have a tank and didn't work hard enough to get one. Hewett prob has similar stats I haven't looked, however I bet my bottom dollar his opponent never ran off him. Mind you as a start it was probably the best opposition player. Hence, not only only was he stopping the opposition's best midfielder but getting similar stats as SPS, if the poster above was correct. Hewett in my opinion much much more valuable than SPS.

Skills only get you do far, the problem with SPS and Carlton followers we keep giving excuses to lazy footballers. Yeah he got played HBF after tried on the ball, numerous onballers started there and progressed, whereas he didn't improve, was happy to just take a pay cheque. We'll someone else can now pay for his mediocrity.
