Tom Mitchell is a good player. He would absolutely help strengthen our weakening midfield. If you could get him for a 2nd rd pick and he isnt costing a lot of $$$ salary then youd be silly to not look at it. I cant see a 2nd rounder getting the deal done nor can i see him coming cheap $$$ so its a case of thanks but no thanks

I quite like bringing in Mitchell to address our clearance weakness, but I remain concerned that he could fit into our system and not follow his instincts to rack up low impact touches.

i would really doubt we have salary cap space for any of those Hawthorn players

we have space. Rance, Houli and Astbury gone. Will have retirements next year. Even bringing in Taz he won’t be on huge money. Can easily see us landing someone and smoothing the contract to take in next year’s list changes. Especially so if we get some TPP assistance.

Moreover it stops us getting players with more impact down the track.

I have no issue getting mature quality or even moneyball types but these guys don't represent bang for buck for me

tarrant is bang for buck especially positionally and structurally so we get him, I Have no issue with that

I think some can underestimate the impact of good draftees and the youth developing to. Some are showing signs are are not far away at all and that changes the composition of our team and way to

We’ve been hitting the draft the last 4 years and don’t have an abundance of talented kids. What’s recruiting Mitchell going to do?

If we continue to waste first round picks hitting the draft won’t work either.

Let’s hope we do what we said we would and balance our draft hand out and hit the draft, but this time nail some picks.

It's interesting. In 2017 our years 1-4 players, including Noah Balta and Liam Baker, had approximately 1850hrs of skills and development time. That dropped to 1400, 1400, 1100 and just shy of 800 last year, due primarly to going deep in September/October and the pandemic. Our 1-4 years have gone through the hardest time of any. I wouldn't say that's a direct result of recruiting.

All I am saying, is give our 1-4 years a chance.

John Lennon.

When Crazy Mitch rang Balmey he told him pick 7 and 15 are not on offer for any of his old hacks.

Balmey then said we've got a couple of picks in the 40s we are looking to trade so if he's interested let him know.

Agree and they need opportunity. If we snuffed them out it would be counter productive and cause all sorts of issues down the track and longer term

Did you see our system last year?

It was let the opposition run it out of the center square every time!

Pretty sure we don't want to run with that system again?

They do have a chance as their still on the list but they are looking more Corey Ellis/Ben Lennon than Shai Bolton.

Can see Mitchell looking to move Mitchell on because his accumulation dominance would be interferring with the development of their youngsters

If you could do JOM or Mitchell for a second rounder plus some salary assistance you'd be absolutely stupid not to IMO.

I have no doubt they'd be asking for a first rounder for either right now but the closer we get to the trade deadline the more desperate they might get by the sounds of it.

They'll settle for picks in the early 20s. If we get 20 from #lolNorf then we can deal if we want to

JOM for a second rounder would be daylight robbery

IMO the only way Mitchell fits is if we change the way we play at stoppages.
Those players like him Cripps, Cunnington theyre not super attacking and creative and theyre not good def players they acumulate and with Graham and Cotch being def minded plus a Mitchell type thats not much potential to be creative and attacking.
Happy to be wrong.
Mitchell sortve reminds me of Scott West a great player and could find the last footy in Melb but is a one trick pony and thats winning the ball at stoppages outside the attacking 50 and his creativity stops at handballing or kicking in the direction he’s running.
Bit harsh on a brownlow medalist...but you get what you get.

I'd do 26 and 28 for Mitchell if hawks pay some of his contract. We made an offer to Cerra so there must be some cap space left for the right deal.

We'd then still take 2 x first rounders to the draft. Trade a couple of the 30s and 40s picks for one in the 20s.

Elite ball winner in, elite backman in and 3 highly rated kids without losing any real quality. Can't complain about that.

Not saying I want to do this.

But let me throw a brash, hypothetical - your way.

Pick 7 - Not enough for the boys we want. We can't get a trade done for a higher Pick.

Do we go to Hawthorn.

Richmond: "We give you 7, 15 and CCJ Compo you give us JOM, Gunston & Tom Mitchell. We know we're paying overs, we know Hawthorn rebuilding... take 50% of their salary too"

Now, im not saying I agree to it - so don't thumb me down! It would be good to hear other perspectives. It would be good to talk about something different.

Take 26, 28, 38, 42, 44 to the draft - picks we've used to nail players like Bolton, Balta, Graham, etc. And bring in two contested winning beasts, and a proven gun goal kicker who suddenly take us from being potentially having an over the hill midfield, to oh boy, we've got a lot going for us here...

If it's a failure? We've got next year to hit the draft and the year after that. But how often do we have a premiership calibre team on our list?

Going for Tarrant was a sign were aiming for a premiership. Tom Mitchell will play every game, he will win us the ball. JOM is a risk, but along with Prestia, they can go part time in the midfield. Dusty, Gunston can go forward and support the slow moving Jack and Tom show.

You go into 2022 - not half and half, you go in, all in, for the premiership.

7 and 15 is way overs - but if they take a chunk of the salaries, it gives us a huge opportunity to go for number 14. It's out of the Geelong play book

B: Grimes, Balta, Short
HB: Vlastuin, Tarrant, Rioli
C: Cotchin, O'Meara, Graham
HF: Martin, Riewoldt, Edwards
F: Gunston, Lynch, Bolton
R: Nankveris, Mitchell, Prestia
I/C: Soldo, Pickett, Baker, Broad

Now that's a ******* team, don't @ me

I got absolutely laughed at for this yesterday.

But the key component here - Hawthorn need to pay lots of their salary. They aint comtending , they gotta meet 95% of their cap.

The more salary they pay, the higher picks they get. Because id imagine we're close to 100% with Dusty and Tom
