You reckon 12 and CCJ effectively is overs for a gun? Happy to disagree there.

Yes. Taranto was off contract. GWS salary cap is a mess. They literally can't afford him.

Especially not anything close to the contract offered. He was a must trade for GWS. They would've talked themselves into a half eaten bag of chips for him given cap space. He wasn't playing for GWS in 2023 no matter what happened.

Giving up maximum value was dumb. The problem with being so nice to GWS now is they get to dig their heels in on the contracted Hopper who's already on their books for next year. I guarantee playing nice is not coming back our way on this deal.

The time to dig the heels in on the trade return from our end was on Taranto and they blew it.

we can win another flag without tarranto and hooper

need at least 2 more
We would have one more crack at it without them, but with the strength and age of the better teams in the league it seems unlikely. Yes Geelong showed age doesn’t matter..

Personally I don’t think we need both but winning 1 flag for 4 picks for 2 ready made players still wins the trade

Nice analysis.

It'd be really interesting to see what Kingsley's perspective is on each of these blokes. One thing's for sure, it'd be different to most of the opinions which get thrown around in here.
Thanks mate, obviously that’s a very rough overview of those particular kids, just my initial thoughts

Agree 100% that Kingsley would have a much better understanding of the potential they all have and what they might offer him at GWS going forward

More like Sam running a narrative to create drama. Heaven forbid he’d do such a thing.

Firstly, Taranto was worth 12 and 19 (CCJ). He is a genuine gun, 2 or 3 years away from his prime.

Secondly, Taranto was uncontracted and not on the books as a contract. Doesn't mean they suddenly become cheaper? They wanted to keep him, they had the money for him and I believe they rated him over Hopper. Look at Cameron as an example - was off contract and they were prepared to match, Geelong gave up 3 first round picks.

Thirdly, Hopper is who they HAVE to move as he is on the books for next year and is taking up way to much cap space. All this talk is just talk, a deal will get done.

Posturing at it's best.

The whole tweet is a contradiction.

So predictable Sam and you believe every word of it i bet, this was always going to happen with the Taranto and Hopper deals being 1 week apart.

Hopper deal has probably already been agreed too behind closed doors and Richmond And GWS are now just waiting a week to see if any later picks fall into each's laps that could possibly be traded as part of the deal.

And wouldn't surprise me if the AFL have got wind of this and told McCartney to play it up for the drama.

To all Richmond fans, don't get sucked in and fall for it.

Nah, the true art of the deal is everyone walks away with a win. Tarranto is Prestia good. He addresses an urgent need. Pick 12 isn't a guaranteed anything, much like 19. We'll see how you feel about this come R12 next year.

What? Salary dump is when you have actual salary to dump. Taranto was out of contract. Different things.

It was a fair trade and if we screwed them over in the Taranto deal good luck getting Hopper.

That wasn't the trade though. Fyi I think the trade was fair
Effectively it is though. 19 is what we got for Zombie. We have paid a very fair price for Tame Toronto.

What a privilege to have somebody who was obviously involved in the behind the scenes discussions between both clubs since you obviously know all the details that were discussed between the clubs.

It is in effect the same thing when they can't afford to pay him what we offered or what he and his management wants.

They were stuck in between a rock and a hard place. They had to dump him in a trade over paying him due to other contracts on their books.

I've finally figured out the purpose of Cam Luke. As far as I can tell he only ever appears alongside Cooney. His role is to make Cooney look like less of an offensively annoying dipsh1t by comparison.
Yep, it’s absolutely shocking to listen to. Realized that this morning and no more for me

That’s why they offered him the choice of a 2 year or 4 year deal. Seriously poor take

People seem to forget Tarrant was also involved is this as well.
Great point. Just my personal take, Tiges have come out very well giving up 12 and 19 for Taranto. Hartley is a gun.
