What do people think about Brodie McLaughlin and Chris Burgess from Gold Coast? I know that Burgess is a bit too old to be part of our next “wave”, but he Along with McLaughlin could be cheap but decent options for now.

Don’t really know whether they’re good though.

McLaughlin was Gold Coast’s SPP pick this season so I don’t think he’ll move so early.

I like Burgess, although I didn’t realize he was already 27. He won’t be the answer but as a ‘stop gap’ between now and the Lynch replacement I wouldn’t mind if he was cheap.

Ben McKay is getting back to good form for Norf. Only 25.5 years old. If he can stay fit he would create a formidable duo alongside Balta for the next 6+ years. Reckon he'd thrive at a good club and would be a fair bit cheaper than HH in terms of contract.

Would allow Gibcus to take over from Jack as a CHF.

KPDs 2024: Balta, McKay, Grimes/Broad. Depth - Young, Bauer, Miller, Nyuon
KPFs: Lynch, Gibcus, Ryan. Depth - Bradtke, Miller, Nyuon.

Midfield is sorted long term, key positions would be sorted for the short-medium term. Then can concentrate on depth at the draft.

We need to land one of HH and McKay as free agents....

For me
KPD wise : Young already ahead of others at the club. Plus Miller and Bauer. Nyuon maybe delisted. He never seems to be in the selection frame.

KPF wise: We use 2 KPF Lynch plus Ryan/ Miller. Gibcus has been untried forward. He may be shocking up forward and be a KPD. In which case a KPF may be required. See how Miller's form goes too.

Lynch and Ryan might be enough.

There's quite a few options

No need for McKay at punt road.

I'm of this opinion too - I think McKay is a good Defender, strong, but not elite. No need to chase him.

Reckon Gibcus has all the tools to play forward or back.

I'd prefer HH as a forward and Gibcus back but I heard on the weekend HH is preferring to play KPD now anyway. We need a ready-to-go KPF for when Lynch inevitably breaks down next year. If he gets injured and Ryan/Miller are our next two in line we're in strife.

With the position we're in - cash to splash, bugger all draft picks and the fact we're on record as not going down the rebuild/bottom out path - We need to get one of these two available, free agent, best 22 KPPs. Then we can shuffle the deck chairs to accommodate. IMO.

Interesting to note that Jake Riccardi has decided not to sign a new contract at the stage, however Kingsley doesn't see it being an issue and negotiations will continue.

Giants have supposedly offered HH a deal of 5 years @ at 700k+ per year. It's going to take 800+ to get him across. That'd be a no from me, too much.

Tom Doedee anyone? Or we have too many at that size?

Marlion Pickett needs to play 2 more games this year to trigger a clause that gets him a deal for 2024. Be interesting to see what the club does given the off field issues. By all reports the club are supporting Pickett, but will they lock themselves into having him on the list in 2024 not knowing what could happen off the field.

Way overrated , I put him in class of Carr or moir from gws ,,,how on earth anyone could pay this bloke 800 is beyond me

As expected

Giants are not stupid and know exactly what they have on their hands and what he is worth and as i have posted before they will make him an offer that will set the floor of the deal to ensure they get a Band 1 compo if he leaves.

Smart move

Na McKay is a much better player. Has a point of difference from our KPDs in that he is over 2m tall, which comes in handy against the really big guys like his brother and the King twins.

However Balta in the form he's in atm is using his athleticism to beat these taller guys, making having a 2m+ KPD possibly not needed.

If HH wants to play back then he will go to Collingwood. Who else can we target to fill a KPF hole?

Smart move by the Giants, reckon they think he is going, so have bumped up his contract to get band 1 compo, they have played this game before and now know how to use it.

Pretty confident any contract would have clauses to have them torn up should the player be found guilty of a major crime

At 27 (28 next May), Himmelberg is a 5 year player at best so you couldn't even lengthen his contract to spread out the financial damage. If we have the cap space and he's willing to play as our second KPF, I'd consider it. He'd only be a bandaid though so ensuring we have developing tall forwards to replace Lynch when he goes down, should still mbe front and center.

Given how we've just brought in Hopper and Taranto on long contracts,it's a big risk
