Yep very good.

He works in the industry as a talent scout / recruiter

And despite being poor recruiters like you are clearly inferring, we fluked 3 flags in 4 years.
Have some bloody faith and stop being so impatient. You can’t be at the upper end of the ladder forever. Swans even had drop offs but are blessed with a productive academy, which we are not. And Cats have sleepy hollow helping them attract quality out of contract players and free agents for the lifestyle mainly.
We will rebound hard, we are far better placed than Hawks were when they commenced their rebuild.
People just need to have a bit of faith and let Blair etc do their work. Interview with Livingston on the clubs website gave me confidence they all know where things are at.
I am as down as anyone regarding our current ladder position but it’s a consequence of success. Just accept it’s something we have to go through and that the right people are in charge of fixing it. They’ve proven they know what they are doing with their past record

Yeah, from many posts in here you’d think we hadn’t made finals for a decade or won a flag for 25-years ..… it’s 2-years and 4-years….

Well of course I would not trade pick 21 for him outright. Thus my suggestion of attaching it loosely to a hefty free agency bid for McIntosh. If not that, then something else. Or just offer a later pick.
What are you seeing in Phillips?

Pick 21 is extremely valuable, being the first pick of the second night. Clubs always come for it. I have little doubt we'd be able to trade it for a 2025 first rounder if we wanted to. There's a big chance someone we like is still available at the pick, someone who goes top-15 in most drafts. Possibly even someone top-10 on our board in this draft.

Is it his job, though? Lots of people 'work in the industry as a talent scout'. That can range from 'draft enthusiast asked to send iPhone footage to club recruiters who are at other games', to 'stringer on a cashy deal with a good eye for traits', to 'full-time employed recruiter compiling dossiers who is actually part of the decision-making process'. What does Cam do?

Yes it's his paid job.

I don't think the pick that is currently sitting at 21 will be able to get us a future rd 1 pick, there is no precedent for that.(See my post #5381 on this thread for both the selection and live trading history of the first rd 2 pick since live trading was introduced.) By the time the first round is over, this pick will be sitting at around pick 28-30. Even if a club thought they were locks to win the 2025 flag(nobody is, ever) they are giving away a pick likely no lower than about 22-23 to gain a pick no higher than 28. The real expected value of the pick they would be giving us would be like 17 for 28. But as both us and now Collingwood have learned, that F1 can easily be a top 10 pick, there is serious downside risk to making a trade like that.

I think it is pretty clear the premium on that first pick in rd 2 is mostly a beat-up. Clubs would be sitting waiting at every pick they could realistically trade up to with a spreadsheet of projected offers ready to go if a player they fancy slips. Having all night to think about it is only going to change that projected value marginally at best.

As for Phillips, I think if he got to his best physically he is a really nice little player. He has good reactions, handles the ball well, and decent disposal and can run. He is at a fantastic age to recruit players where you capture their whole prime. Superstar? I doubt it, but there are a lot of useful midfielders who are not superstars, and if he can get to full health, I think he can be one of them.
