They haven't even start to rise yet either. Look at Dawks as another example, it's definitely not the way to go. if our way works long term we'll never drop below either of them let alone WCE who are on another level again.North Melbourne delisted 11 in what was a zenith of their list turnover. None of them were world beaters but that amount of mature bodies departing the list in four years has seen them finish 18th, 18th, 17th and 16th
The early picks they’ve drafted have quickly gotten losing engrained in their culture. It would be folly to go down the same path
Yeah just imagine last year when JR8 was running around with a walking stick and Lynch can't get on the park and Miller is trying to suddenly work out how to be a key forward and we could have left Balta in the backline too and definitely not resulted in a MCL injury because Chol was playing key forward/ruck.I would take neither.
Just imagine Chol in the heat of the battle in the last quarter yesterday. Our forward pressure would of been totally derailed by him.
With McIntosh & Pickett, they both stay with the understanding that they do so knowing they are not necessarily guaranteed games. Question is, in order to let them go as u call for, who is ready to take over 1 wing spot, let alone both? Until u can answer that they both stay!I’m not sure too many people are advocating a ‘cull’ of any quantity senior players.
My thoughts are we simply need to move on ASAP from ‘average’ players not part of our next flag push … this might include some previously excellent players who are passed their best :
IMO delist or encourage into retirement : Macca, Pickett, Prestia, Grimes. Then look to trade Graham / let him leave as FA - I’ve been waiting for him to take the next step as a player and it’s just never happened … he’s 27yo next year!
These guys no longer provide on-field value beyond what we’d get from our youngsters. If they are still on the list next year how do we keep giving opportunity to youngsters?
We can’t afford to go into 2025 as the 7-8th oldest lists as we are in 2024. Even if we move on those players above we will still have 12 x 100-game players on our list, so it’s nothing at all similar to the ‘Kanga cull’.

Something like that but he left foremost to get a game , we would have had to get rid of jack or soldo to have retained cholYeah just imagine last year when JR8 was running around with a walking stick and Lynch can't get on the park and Miller is trying to suddenly work out how to be a key forward and we could have left Balta in the backline too and definitely not resulted in a MCL injury because Chol was playing key forward/ruck.
We definitely would have been better off if Chol stayed ... if only for the fact that we wouldn't have had to give Kosi a 3 year contract.
Anyway it is a moot point because we couldn't have found 3 million over 5 years ... which is the contract Chol is on, right?
I don’t get the fascination on dispatching KMac and Marlion? Watch them live and see how hard they work closing down oppo outlets especially fat side. It is quite incredible. There is no one on our list that can do what they do. Be thankful they are still churning out more than adequate performances. With McIntosh & Pickett, they both stay with the understanding that they do so knowing they are not necessarily guaranteed games. 2 of our more physical players as well.I don’t get the fascination on dispatching KMac and Marlion? Watch them live and see how hard they work closing down oppo outlets especially fat side. Wait, so you're saying Richmond should have offered Chol a 4 year deal worth 1.8m with a trigger for a 5th.Mabior Cholwould be handy about nowPLAYERCARDSTART18Mabior Chol

its ok apparently Kosi was a better fwd
Wait, so you're saying Richmond should have offered Chol a 4 year deal worth 1.8m with a trigger for a 5th.
And the subsequent deal of a 3rd round pick + a future 2nd which Hawthorn paid?
Because there exactly what we would have had to match or beat to entertain your scenario.
I know the Lynch and Balta injuries really suck but boy oh boy, we really go a bit loopy with our retrospective analysis of injuries.
Fwiw - I've always liked 2 phones but let's all take a deep breath.
Well, there's no proof of that salary anywhere online so that's just speculation but even if it's true it's still a significantly less outlay than Chol.Instead we got Kosi for $400k a year x 3
I think its best not to be naive.Well, there's no proof of that salary anywhere online so that's just speculation but even if it's true it's still a significantly less outlay than Chol.
Chol would've also cost a future 2nd and is 4 years older.
Overall, I'm still amazed this is of any concern to any Richmond supporter given Chol couldn't get a game for GCS all season.
I'd much rather our scenario of having two future 2nd round picks + Kosi (23) + Fawcett (18).
Kosi has been very bad so far but many people also wanted Dow delisted last week too.
Enjoy the ride and don't sweat the small staff because Chol vs Kosi don't get much smaller.
Have you actually seen the 11 players that the Kangaroos cut that cemented them at the bottom of the ladder?I’m not sure too many people are advocating a ‘cull’ of any quantity senior players.

You seem to be focusing on something I never denied and keep ignoring the other factors of the deal.I think its best not to be naive.
We chased him and he knocked but a contract from his club to join Richmond
Average salary in the AFL is around $370k
You really believe its less than $400k then you should take your head out of the sand
Chol will most likely kick 40 goals this year
it might be small but it would be bloody handy to Richmond with where we are atm
Totally agree that there will be list changes but what I'm saying is for example should Baker and Graham (or Broad) seek to move clubs then we would need to retain Pickett, McIntosh and Prestia (I think Grimes is going to retire)We have what hawthorn and north didn’t. Some talent who wants to leave who will give us good draft picks as well as most likely a lower ladder position. This is because we actually drafted talent in our prime years. This will soften the rebuild. We don’t want to lose them all but a Baker and Broad won’t sink the ship. What would be our draft hand here if we lost both (because they are building houses there).
Don't we have to spend a certain percentage of the salary cap on players wages?$5 Mill saved and going towards the PRO devo!
Move on from Chol FFS.I think its best not to be naive.

Chol signed a 5 year 3 million contract to go to Gold Coast ... this is year 3. When King was injured he kicked over 40 goals ... when King wasn't he didn't play ...Well, there's no proof of that salary anywhere online so that's just speculation but even if it's true it's still a significantly less outlay than Chol.

Feck yeah...forgot about that!Don't we have to spend a certain percentage of the salary cap on players wages?
100% agree. Both give us so much physicality and are also quite versatile in the positions they can play. Our young mids would be in a world of hurt if these two weren't in the team.I don’t get the fascination on dispatching KMac and Marlion? Watch them live and see how hard they work closing down oppo outlets especially fat side. It is quite incredible. There is no one on our list that can do what they do. Some posters were anti Kosi from the start. Fair enough. I hardly ever saw him play, and I agree now he looks like a bust. You seem to be focusing on something I never denied and keep ignoring the other factors of the deal.
Like I said, trading for Chol wouldn't be in our top 30 issues right now - not sure why you're so obsessed with not matching Hawthorns trade of a future 2nd.
At RFC Chol was mostly back up ruck depth which he was not great at.Chol signed a 5 year 3 million contract to go to Gold Coast ... this is year 3. When King was injured he kicked over 40 goals ... when King wasn't he didn't play ...
For the Hawks averaging 1.7 goals (projects to 40) and an elite 3.3 tackles a game.
My point is if we had kept him both Balta and Miller could have continued to play back ... but we made the mistake of playing him in the AFL as a delisted free agent without a contract for the following year ... we are making the same mistake with Ben Miller right now ... he can walk at the end of the year too
He knocked back a 1 year base contract and took our 3, $ value could be the same per year, $250KI think its best not to be naive.
