I might be wrong on this, but the way I read it is they get 16 uncontracted, and have used 8 of them. Therefore, effectively they have 8 remaining - although they aren't PSD picks, they are just an opportunity to beat the PSD to the punch. Also, it isn't the same as having 8 picks either, because if they've already taken an uncontracted from one club, they can't do it again; so it's only for those clubs (like mine & yours I believe, and the Eagles too, yeah?) they haven't already raided. So effectively, you could say they have the first few picks because they could sign players before any of us can pick them up in the PSD. Make sense?

But, as I said, I could be wrong & wouldn't be surprised if the AFL had just quietly changed the rules again to give them yet another leg-up

I thought that too, but then the deadline that was set for 2:00pm last Friday to sign uncontracted players for them makes no sense

I thought that was the deadline on pre-listed players, as opposed to uncontracted players? Again, may be wrong, but it would make sense to allow them to still hoe into uncontracted players after the dust settles on trade week.

No matter how much the AFL want the new teams to succeed, it would beggar belief that they could baldly say all year they aren't involved in the PSD, then just as trade week concludes drop the bomb that they have in fact the first 8 picks, which coincidentally is exactly the same amount of uncontracted players they haven't taken yet

I've been really impressed with how the Gold Coast have gone about things. I'm confident they wont screw up Houli getting to us. Some of the pre-listed players they've traded have been really good deals for other clubs. They're being very respectful of other clubs. Good to see. Houli will get to us. We can always take 2 psd picks.

Just watched the 2007 Rising star nomination video of Shaun Grigg - showed a lot of promise, skill and clearly hard at it. It will be good to see him playing alongside our already strong midfield and taking some of the pressure off the other boys.

If Cloke actually stands firm on the contractual issues he has with the pies and makes his way to the PSD, I think this would be a great addition to our club [23 years - premiership player, club best and fairest, leading contested mark in 2010, needs work on kicking however Jack changed his kicking approach and moved from circa 47% accuracy 2009 to >60% in 2010)

I look forward to the ND, PSD to see what we end up with and of course look forward to seeing the RFC continue on its journey in 2011 with plenty of improvement again.

It is confusing as hell, the deadline to sign the 16 players ended last week, I don't think anybody knows WTF is the deal here:confused:

However, the Bombers will still use the time ahead of the draft to see if they can reconcile with the hard-working midfielder.

"I hope so. You'd think so," national recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro said, when asked if the relationship could be repaired.

"He has indicated he wants to play for Richmond next year and they've got the next live pick in the pre-season [draft] so there's a good opportunity for him to get there.

"He's been a required player so we'll have a chat to him but he's got his heart set on getting to Richmond and they've got the whip hand at the moment with the pre-season [draft] so we had our hands pretty much tied."

Houli won't be able to start training with the Tigers until after October 30, according to Cameron.

I hope Cloke signs with Collingwood and we draft Houli PSD. I don't want to mess around with the romance.

On the flip side Bazzar, the question was put directly to Clayton if they had 8 picks in the PSD.

He answered they do, but would probably only use one, if any all.

I suppose it's just a matter of who you think is the most reliable source regarding gold coast concessions;

Gold coast recruiting manager or Essendon recruiting manager?

This is my take on it also. It also assumes that all of those eight clubs have someone out of contract, I'm not sure if that is the case or not. Can't think of anyone still out of contract at Richmond.

Did he ever say the picks came at the start of the PSD?
Because if not, then perhaps both could be right- Richmond have the first live pick and GC get 8 at the end- also makes sense as they might need a big number of picks at the end to fill their list as they have an extended amount

Pretty sure the question was the first 8 picks, but you could be right.

I don't think they can pick up uncontracted players before the PSD (ala Houli). I think McMahon is uncontracted though!!!!

There is no need to panic on the PSD. Clayton said that they could take 8 picks if they wanted to, but he said because they have got their 8 uncontracted players in Ablett Brennan Brown & co, 12 17 year old kids from last year, 10-11 picks from the draft and the players they took in last years PSD in Harris Stanley and co, then there is a couple more pre listed players they can take, they would probably take only the one pick if they decided to go that way.

The way i look at it, a few clubs have said we have the first live pick, so I take that as all the clubs know what GC are doing with the first pick and what the Eagles are doing with the second pick, so in essence we have the first by default.

With regards to Gold Coast & psd , i think they have used that much of their cap that eeven if in psd Bacha could put price tag on his head which would rule them out
