Don't be surprised if we use a second rounder to draft a player who is not getting much of a go at another club.

That's been the trend in recent years, although we've gone after ruckmen and defenders. However I think the focus this year will be the midifled. Any young midfielders from other clubs not getting a proper go?

Albert Proud, Kane Tenace, Andrew Swallow, Adam Thomson anyone else?

Sherman played about 3 qtrs of the year with the Lions. I know he was mentioned last year in our trade talks - possibly just on this board, don't know if there was anything in the media about it - he might be one who could use a new home. Has a bit more pace than our bigger bodied mids such as Bird, Ablett etc.

Another one which is probably wishful thinking if Taylor Walker from Adelaide. Was a NSW scholarship pick. Here is an excert from another poster;
Many people in the media are making claims Taylor Walker is the best young talent they've ever seen in the SANFL. Has kicked multiple bags this year, and will hopefully be a certain starter from round 1 next year. Looks very similar in style to Fevola, and has ultra clean hands below his knees. Doesnt seem to take many contested marks, but doesnt need to as his timing in his leads is fantastic.

Considering he kicked over 50 goals in the SANFL let's hope he gets homesick!

Yes, Sherman was fantastic in his debut season. Not really sure what happened to him in his subsequent seasons. Perhaps if Lethal was still at the club, he might have been available but I believe Voss is a big fan of the Shermanator and hence won't be available cheaply.

I wish too! Too bad he's from Broken Hill, which is closer to Adelaide than Sydney and is a childhood Crows fan.

I predict the loss of a couple of mid range or injury prone players to another AFL club or possibly to a lower league. This will be combined with the pickup of a fringe player from another top eight team. We will also be looking to draft a couple of "smokies" or "project" players who will become the mid range or injury prone players of the future.

We've already settled on our smokies: another Irishman and the Canadian rugby guy, eh?

I expect we'll find a couple more late in the draft or perhaps rookies. We desperately need someone like Vogels, M. Davis or Doyle.

Why doesn't anyone draft James Podsiadly from the VFL? He's been kicking bags of goals consistently for years.
I think he was at both Collingwood and Essendon at various stages but never did anything of worth. He trained with the Dogs for a little while as well. But yeah that's one I'll never understand.

I very much doubt Hawkins or Roughhead would be made availble, for any offer. We'd have to look at fringe players...Boyle, Gamble, Sherman i wouldn't mind. Don't k now where Zac dawson's at maybe we could give him a go he's put on a good 15k since he was every FF's bitch

Forget Tenace, he's not that good. Swallow is apparently a strong possibility to go to West Australia, I'm not sure if he's from there. Can't see the Lions offering Proud. Thomson might be possible, although does anyone have a strong opinion. I think posters on the Port board are split: some rate him, think he should get more of a go; others have been talking up for trade for a while.

Is Jarred Brennan contracted at Brisbane?

Yes Swallow is from WA. Proud got shafted by Lethal this year, starred in the AFLQ but hardly got a run in the senior side. Not sure we want Thomson, slow inside mids we have enough of them thanks, just offered his name as an example of a fringe player not getting a go.

Brisbane is announcing tonight it has re-signed Proud.
And delisting Mills. He's all yours if you want him.

As for some of the other Brisbane players in this thread. Brennan is contracted for another 2 years, Patfull will not be going anywhere, Brisbane will possibly look at offers for Sherman. He is contracted however, and Voss is a huge fan.

Re: Jeff White

Jesse's definitely an option to pinch hit, but why would we, when we have a specialist ruckman in Currie?

Does anyone else think that Nathan Thompson would be a much better option for us than Henry Playfair?

no

nathan thompson... doesn't seem to really provide much in matches anymore.... only marginally better than playfair

but we're in a re-building phase.... so personally i wouldn't consider anyone over 25

thompson probably has a few years left... then we have to quickly find another replacement for him...

trade for a young forward or go to the draft imo

Firstly, I agree to go for a young forward in the draft. Secondly, if Playfair's role is to create a contest and miss easy shots at goal then I rekcon Thompson could do just as good a job until he is 40.
