I'm a little sad we missed out on Lukosius. However, he has a big salary that we might not have wanted onboard. I'd happily have given one of our first two picks for him. Never mind - he's going home. Port need him more than we do.
I do understand your point and i think we are both talking about a very subtle difference in preferences/confidence of playersCleary has already gotten CBA's in 3 different games out of 5 he played in. In his two full games he averaged 6% CBAs so i think he could easily push that up to just 10-20% if he plays regularly, then you have Adams McInerney Papley Gulden all that get some CBAs per game (if Parker leaves) and that pretty much covers the lot not taken up by the main 3 midfielders. Just think Kennedy would be coming in to replace Adams when we could use that money in the LT to pay Warner and others and just use that Kennedy list spot on a rookie
Some supposed ITK poster on the Collingwood board said we're the only club still interested in Stringer. We'll make a decision after our season
If Stringer is in, does that mean Parker is gone and Stringer takes that forward/mid role? Will be competing with Adams and Cleary and Sheldrick for about one spot (if we're fully fit - which of course, you nearly never are) I reckon!

But Stringer can go hang out with TaliaI would say/expect it means Parker out, Adams unsettled, Cleary's development blocked and Sheldrick looking for a trade.
You may be able to guess that I have zero interest in Stringer being at the Swans
But Stringer can go hang out with Talia
That's the right approach. I don't know about the specific draft targets but the idea is right. We need Stringer like a hole in the head.As long as he's not part of this club, he can do what he wants
We know Cunningham, Lloyd, Rampe, Fox, Adams, Grundy, Parker and one or two others are on their last contracts. We need to find replacements. This is the year to hit the draft and not blow capital on short term options.
With a bit of luck, Tauru and Shanahan are available at our picks. Add that to academy options this and next year as well as holding on to Sheldrick and I really do think the base is there for the next decade
Didn’t have an issue with Stengle? If he buys in for the full year he’s an AA talent the issue is do we trust it. On talent alone we are negligent if we don’t discuss it. Cats didn’t have an issue with Stengle
Didn’t have an issue with Stengle?
He was removed unconscious from a nightclub at 2.30am just a couple of months ago.
And Stringer makes Stengle look like a choirboy.
What? It happened this year!Stengle has won multiple AA’s since sometimes the risk is worth it when the talent is obvious

Also, none of the schools in Sydney would know who he is.I don't have any strong opinions on Stringer (except he doesn't come across that well from media coverage) but I don't think we'd have to give up much (or any) draft capital to get him. Pretty sure a nothing pick would get it done. I also don't think he'll blow a big hole in the salary cap.
Stringer would be a 'top-up' option that would hopefully give us more scoring power, I imagine. But scoring hasn't been a problem for us so I'm not sure if that's what we need. I think a quality pressure forward is more what we need. I wonder if he would come he wasn't assured of playing seniors? He might because I gather we're offering an extra year. He could be a handy depth player to call on from the reserves in case of injury. Also, perhaps the thinking is that whatever his dubious associates and influences are, he will do better in a different city wrapped up in the club environment, sharing a house with teammates etc??
A 31 year old shouldn’t need to move to a different city to stop hanging out with dodgy characters.I don't have any strong opinions on Stringer (except he doesn't come across that well from media coverage) but I don't think we'd have to give up much (or any) draft capital to get him. I definitely noticed when Rampe gets injured we play noticeably worse and our structure breaks down. I agree we need to focus our efforts on getting a gun defender.Finding a replacement for Rampe would be my number 1 priority.
He is such a key cog to our team, I can see Mills playing in defence but he's not able to shut down opposition like Rampe does.
When Rampe eventually goes our defence will take a significant hit
How this is allowed is the only question Victorians or anyone else needs to ask themselves when they wonder why we’re allowed to have an academy.
What a rort.

Essendon don't value him enough to keep him. They probably want Sheldrick or Cleary in a trade. They have form with Sth Melbourne Swans. We gave away two Danihers for a bloke with talent and he ended up back with them anyway. I wonder how Stringer's name has come up at Essendon in their annual reviews of what went wrong this year? Reckon the answer might be staring us in the face.If he buys in for the full year he’s an AA talent the issue is do we trust it. On talent alone we are negligent if we don’t discuss it. The spirit he brings to the team is irreplaceable though. He has what Kirk and McVeigh had. A true bloods believer.
If guns are only AA material, then we don't need them. Give me a Reg Grundy, or LRT or Tilt, or Ted. Trust in our formula for the defensive six. It works and has done for decades. I suspect that Frost could do the role you wish for and give us cover until Snell and Edwards are ready. I also think Cleary could be tried as a replacement for our lockdown small defender for when Harry's ability to take care of business begins to wane.I'm not sure about whether we need a gun defender or not. On the one hand, Rampe is entering into his last year, Melican has a history of injuries and McCartin has an alarming history of concussions that forced his brother to retire already. Actually, after writing that sentence I got off the fence. Let get a gun defender.
But, to complete my initial train of thought anyway, on the other hand,
1. It's a bit like with our mids: we have young players waiting in the wings and getting in more defenders will cruel their chances of getting a game. The unproven youth are Snell and Edwards. The back-up depth are Francis, Hamling and Arnold. So we actually have quite a few KPDs on our list already. Francis and Arnold are the only uncontracted ones. At this moment in time Francis is probably the best of them but it seems he is vulnerable to getting delisted because he's out of contract, especially if we're considering Frost. Looks like Hamling's papers have been stamped for the end of next year too.
2. Our defence has long relied on system and teamwork more than having star players and that approach has served us well. In the past 8 years none of our defenders have had even one AA season. Prior to that we had three defenders have a single AA season (Richards 2012, Smith 2014, Rampe 2016). I don't know how much further back you have to go to get more AA seasons from our defenders but by then it gets irrelevant to the way we play now. Ergo, so long as we continue to get solid role players who combine together and with the rest of the team, perhaps we don't need any new guns and we can continue to rely on the defenders we develop.

Not sure if Frost qualifies as a 'gun'. But not sure if any KPD guns are available and whether we have the $ to spring for them anyway. Do you have any particular 'gun defenders' in mind that you think we could get?
