In regards to JHF. A family friend was in his company on Friday night. Should he come back to Adelaide, which is highly possible it will be to Port. Does not like the Crom. Very close to immediate family apparently. Time will tell, but my source of information is sound.
Come back in 2023 or 2024?

I would be keen for us to offer pick 19 (if we get it) for brisbanes 23 1st. Tho i suspect brisbane will either let themselves go into deficit or trade a future pick out for the Dunkley deal ie current 1st plus future second for Dunkley and late picks for points or current first plus future first for Dunkley , 2nd rounder and some late picks:
How does going into deficit next year affect their ability to trade out their future 1st Philthy? I'm not understanding the mechanisms here. Would that mean the team that traded in their future first pick would then have to wear the pick downgrade if they go into deficit? Seems a risky trade if so.

What that means is Vic clubs will be able to offer 4th Round picks for GWS & Gold Coast players because they will take on 100% of their salary.

C4 has linked us to Ely Smith in the past. His days at Brisbane would be done now.

Out of contract too I think.

Had an Uber driver Friday night that was a mad W Bulldogs supporter from Melbourne . He told me why would you want Dunkley , he’s an inside bull that can’t kick just like Ollie Wines and you don’t need two . Made me worried about getting him so I’m not too fussed now . Looks like we have to pay overs for Victorians and we don’t want to end up with a salary cap squeeze when Rozee, Butters etc get their big deals coming up
The myth that Wines can't kick should've died around the bye in 2020. He's working beautifully within his limitations now.

Jane Doyle like Graeme Goodings are truly blessed.

They were fortunate to live in a city and a time when the ability to read the words created and typed out for them by others on an autocue counted for talent.
Particularly Goodings, who won the equivalent of X-Lotto when channels 10 and 7 changed ownership and call signs back in the dim darks and by default he inherited viewers for the C7 news that were many multiples of what C10 ever had.

It was a year or 2 ago he said the coaches had told him focus on what you can do. If that's 30m kicks so be it.

Look at Geelong and Sydney how often their fwd50 entries are dinky kicks. Both play what I call formula footy.

Gameplans that require cool headed discipline as well as ability. By comparison we're a flighty flakey bag of

liquorice all sorts, where our best comes from emotion charged individual brilliance and oppo clangers.

A supporter base never sure what the team is going to serve up from a 10yr coach.

Meanwhile Sean Flannery swam nude in the station owners pool at a Xmas do and lost his job. There is no justice.

It would be either / or .. not both. They could choose to go into deficit (if they didn’t have enough points) or just trade some future picks.
As I said, I reckon they’ll use this years first + other picks from this year plus a pick from next year and ask for picks back.

In reality brisbane won’t want any high or mid draft picks in this draft, they’ll take the two players and just look at end of draft or rookie, so pick 15, mcstay compo, 33 should all be on the table.

Wines is fine. What he lacks is touch / weight on his kicks.

Doesn’t bite off more than he can chew, doesn’t try sideways dinky kicks. Just goes long. Is right up there in metres gained in the league from memory.

They would lose point if they traded for our pick 19: maybe we could trade for this year's pick

That is, we could bundle our Compo; say Picks 19 and 53 for Brissy first rounder, pick 15.

Rumours are, we may trade Hayes to Collingwood (for one of their third rounders).

Have always thought this…..

‘Where our best comes from emotion charged individual brilliance and oppo clangers.’

Work harder for longer…

Personally I wouldn't trade pick 8 for Pickett, let alone pick 8 and change. Happy to wait and see what the state of play is when he's next out of contract.

Being out of contract isn't going to lower his value given he is no where near reaching free agency.

Kid has kicked at least 40 goals in each of the last 2 seasons. Only 21 years old. Likely going to further improve so you risk not giving up pick 8 and change now only to be giving up potentially more in 12 months time.

Whilst the Melbourne media are certain he will stay at the Dees in 2023, i wouldn't be so sure. If he wasn't such a non-confrontational kid he would have requested a trade at his exit meeting recently - he is definitely coming back to South Australia eventually to continue his career. That being said, it only takes one serious discussion with his manager, and his manager can make the call for him and get the trade request sorted on his behalf anyway.

Being out of contract definitely lowers his value. Melbourne loses bargaining power if they risk losing him for nothing if a deal isn't done. This year they can put whatever price on his head they like, and if we don't pay it they keep him. They have all the leverage.

Half this board has been worrying about 'overpaying' for Rioli, but Rioli is out of contract and his current club has no way of forcing us to overpay for him. If we chase Pickett, Melbourne can and will force us to overpay if we want him.

Even if it was just pick 8 though, which it wouldn't be, I guess it's a bit difficult for us to say when we don't know what will be available at our pick but given the choice between Pickett and Phillipou, I'm taking Phillipou. You're free to disagree.

This year though? Melbourne will ask for 8 plus the Amon pick. The idea of giving up two top 20 picks for a small forward (even a very good one) is insane to me.
