Umm, you know how much I hate to be that guy, but doesn’t this tell you that Gold Coast thinks the draft is s**t at Pick 7? If they are willing to trade it out for nothing more than cap relief in return?
It could mean that they've got enough young players and would rather salary cap relief at this stage to help bolster their young core.

Are you also saying we should be following draft superstars Gold Coast's lead with regards to judging a draft's quality?

So true.
We probably will try to pay overs for an average player than try to manoeuvre into this to-good-to-true deal, then spin it as a win for us 🙄
Yeah these sort of deals never happen for us.
We are more of a give second round pick away and have no picks between first round and leftovers.
This deal if it happens will be for a strong club that makes them stronger.

What if we do a three way trade that nets us pick 7, Bowes then goes to a Vic based club, we get a player from said club, and we give up whatever trade/future picks we need to give to GC?

We get a player we were chasing from Vic plus pick 7.
Vic club gets Bowes.
GC get whatever we give them, and achieve a salary dump.
We give up something to GC.

Nah, as Led Zeppelin said, it just makes you wonder. Why are they being so generous?

As long as there’s enough players we rate in the draft, take on his wage for a couple of years and then see what happens I guess.

If the reporting is correct that Suns will attach pick 7 with him we should 100% be looking at it.

GOLD Coast is set to dangle pick No.7 as the draft sweetener for clubs vying to take on Jack Bowes and the two remaining years on his contract.
Surely that’s not true.

Wonder if it’s just been suggested that gcs would deal good picks to get rid of Bowes and someone has just ran with pick 7 for the clickbait / hype.

I don't think we're interested in Bowes and he probably wouldn't want to come here but a deal like Bowes + 7 for Bonner + Amon compo is something I'd be keen to do.

Or Bowes + 25, 31,34 for Bonner + Amon compo (27 likely).

Unlocks the Rioli trade (even though I think he's worth somewhere in 40s). If we give up Hayes then there's another late 2nd/early 3rd pick. Then you have a strong draft hand that you can do a lot with
Why the **** would we ship Bonner off lol.

I would rather keep Bonner.

Bonner > Bowes, and I like Bowes.

I don’t mind Bowes, fairly keen to add him if he came with a free draft pick, but we don’t really need him off the half back flank, and we have lots of options on the wing to develop already.

Think he will look elsewhere where he’s guaranteed more opportunity, especially if he’s looking for midfield time.

Me three (plus pick seven)

KIng, Anderson & Rowell: they need room to sign up and extend their young guns.
No, nothing to do with the draft quality: it is a dead set two year salary dump.
The more the bidder pays, the less picks go back (to the Gold Coast).

Ideal for us as our next contract challenge is post 2024
Pick 7 is the carrot (with Jack Bowes the steak knives) to off-load his heavily back-ended deal.

The key for us is, can Dixon convince Bowes to move to SA.

Paying 100% of Bowes salary
The value of high picks is very different to GCS than other club.
They literally have more than they know what to do with, especially since they need to reduce their list size.

Salary cap flexibility is worth more to them than even more high picks, they’re looking for list stability going forward rather than just bringing in high pick after high pick that leave after a few years. Plus King, Rowell and Anderson are due a big pay day (next contract).

Would be pick 7 and Bowes for next years second or third rounder.

They need academy points for next year.

Do the deal. Then extend Bowes over 4 years to smooth his contract.

Take pick 7 and 8 to the draft.

Hell I would take the Rat off their hands if he came with their second rounders. And Sam Day.

If there is a way we could trade out the Amon Compo and third rounders, and nab another first rounder, ie Brisbane’s first, would be a dream.

They will obviously want something back but the motivation is to get the cash out.

It’s a really interesting position for GC as they have 3 2nd rounders in this years draft also plus the pick they’ll get from Adelaide for Rankine.

Very unlikely they go to the draft with 5, 7, 25, 31, 34 and will want to cash some of this in for future draft assets.

Having back to back top 10 picks in any draft is worth pursuing. Not sure how we do it though without giving up our future first, which given the talk about next years draft crop would be risky.

We’d be betting on ourselves to bounce back to a finals team at least.

GC will still go into the draft with pick 5. Pick 7 plus Bowes to us for future picks would work.

Imagine having picks 7,8 & 19……

Why the sudden hots for Jack Bowes? He is a 187cm defender of which we have plenty. As far as I can ascertain he is not a proven midfielder. Getting the pick #7 would hold more value for me, getting another mid sized defender would just be a side benefit.

In any case it looks like we would have competition ...

As you might have noticed we're in to the bargaining stage of football season grief.

'If we just get any player the could fix a lot of our holes'

Coz he comes with a double dip at our first round pick

Gold Coast thought Rory Atkins was worth a five year contract, who gives a shit what they think?

That was arguably the worst list decision in modern football.

The crows always whinge about free agency as if they’ve been hard done by lol, Gold Coast alone has handed them free draft picks for bock (who was finished at afl level and got crows pick 19) and atkins got end of second rounder lol for a spud whose afl career was also done.

Which is the reason four Victorian clubs are chasing the deal. As I posted the #7 pick is the prize not Bowes. Having the #7 attached to the deal makes the deal better but it doesn't make Bowes a better fit for our list.

Geelong? Get ****ed.

If they can afford to buy a pick with salary cap space then this comp is even more ****ed than I thought.
