You might have said the same about DBJ a couple of years ago.
I'm all about foot skills and DBJ doesn't have any. He's an old fashioned hard worker which is great, but his disposal is questionable.

Players like DBJ should be looking to dish the ball by hand to players like Farrell, Houston or Burton. That is a more efficient game style.

Farrell lacks disposal numbers but he's always looking for them. Last night he was ignored multiple times short by a player who just bombed it long to a contest. DBJ is supposed to be a leader. Real leaders are willing to sacrifice their own game to improve the team.

You realise having good players is better than having high draft picks?

Well that really depends on how you view the list. They're not winning it this year, next? The one after? And as much as we exist to make our community proud, a flag would be great.

I look at the Hawks offloading Jon Hay and N Lonie for to round out 5 of the first 22 picks in 2005.... About the time, ahem A.Clarkson arrived.

Our young core is solid, just needs a second wave.

I know it's a foreign idea to our club as we love players who work hard but sign/trade for or draft players who can kick and handball under bloody pressure. Find guys with elite disposal skills. We've sorely lacked that for the best part of a decade and we've never addressed it.

We have a team mostly of blokes that work their guts out and no polish on the outside for a decade now. I don't find that not by design for recruiting to the coaches needs but come on for godsake. Our disposal errors have been a Achilles Heel for the best part of a decade and it's barely addressed.

Oh and another ruckman on the list is probably a good idea.

houston at 25 is still 5 or 6 years with us with arguably the best foot skills in our team. something we are severely lacking!

You'll get no argument from me, he's a great player. Top 40 AA, no doubt. So was Pittard, so was DBJ.

You've gotta give to get. Doing what we're doing clearly isn't getting it done.

I reckon we should target Ben McKay over JHF.

DBJ has morphed into a real spud imo. Gone backwards at a million miles per hour.

I don’t think DBJ has necessarily gone backwards , I just think he hasn’t evolved while the game has , someone who ln his role as a sweeper needs to be a good kick , Burton is , Houston is , doesn’t have to be a long kick but needs to find a teammate

Would definitely be putting his name on the trade table should still have some good value.

I wonder if we could Dixon and dbj to freo for Brennan cox
They need a big forward while in premiership window dbj can be thrown in as steak knives and we get a kpd

This.

DBJ in top 4 kicks in the league according to champion data under closing/physical pressure along with Bolton, Rich and Lepinski.

Contradicts the mass hysteria theory that he is a shit kick as a player who often kicks under closing/physical pressure.

Kicking efficiency has been shown to be hard to quantify as a stat that reflects actual real world quality and I think even though they’ve tried something different here I think they’ve failed yet again.

Even breaking up types of kicks and whether they come off isn’t going to reflect real world quality accurately.

There’s just too many other factors.

my eyes tell me that Dbj either takes safe chop kicks, or dumps it on the boot smashing it forward.

If their stats say a certain amount of dbjs hack kicks are coming off I would guess they are either

A) being pretty loose with what they call a win in that situation

B) our team is making the most of those dump kicks because kens plan pushes large numbers up the field (which just causes problems on the next possession)

I think Dbj is a high effort player who is very competitive when the ball is on the ground, very good in contests , but is very poor aerially, is sloppy with the ball in hand rushing handballs and a poor kick who often dumps the ball on the boot.

He has a place in our team if we play to his strengths, the reason he cops so much is that we all got sucked into thinking he might be an elite player.

His weaknesses have stopped him from becoming that player and he’s settled into a decent first 22 player.

I’m not really keen to rush him out the door like some might be, but I’m also critical of him costing us in games. He’s the exact type of panic merchant that breeds panic into the others around him. The opposite of those players who seem have time and space.

For that reason it seems really hard to have him and jones in the same backline. Their weaknesses are too similar (while having some differences ie aerial contests)

Does that include his panic out on the full kicks.. he must be league leader..

JHF really is cranky. Two kicks halfway through the third. Might have been reported for a late grumpy swinging arm.

I'm pretty sure there's a week in that.
Possibly 2 for liking the idea of being traded to Port.

Really do need him to show something that makes him worth handing over a really really good draft pick for if we are going to make a play for him.

Every game he plays I'm seeing his value go down. It's one thing to check out its another to have people wondering if you are a complete bust.

We end up with pick 6 this draft it's almost impossible to not land a absolute gun.
