“I believe Tom Hawkins is on less than $300,000 next year,” McClure said on Sportsday.”

Yeah I love an article when they say “I believe”

As I said

I don’t buy that he’s on that small amount unless there’s shonky deals going on.
Oh look at this brand new Ford truck that arrives each year at Tom's farm that totally has nothing to do with being at Geelong...

Isn't this the prick that just spams rumours as his own predictions, deletes the incorrect ones and promotes the ones he gets "right"?
Yeah but this one is a tweet that's good for us. So we should believe they're an all knowing ITK tweeter.

Why would they let him go for that? He’s got some upside imo and worth a 3 year deal to get him across.

33 for Willie then 43 & 53 for Esava.

Not to butt in but we have 5 picks between 38 and 64 (admittedly thats before we get trades done) and mackie said today we are only taking 2 picks to the draft so we have too many 2022 picks. If we were to trade sav it would be for say a 2023 r3 (ideally we would like to trade sav and one or 2 of our 3rds for your future 2nd as that fixes our list spot problem but i doubt you trade a future 2nd while jhf is the priority).

Hard to trade future 2nd without getting an exemption from AFL or trading player out for future 2nd

Very valid point..which is probably why it wont happen.
We will have a similar issue ourselves with our trades.

Bonner potential exit makes enticing Bowes to nab pick 7 all the more interesting, especially if we think we’re a real chance at Kozzie next year.
Bowes toured Geelong, Hawthorn and essendon today and is the 2nd time he has met them and is making a decision tomorrow. Get this sick idea of him coming to port

I've heard Kosi Pickett to Port has serious momentum, funnily enough from someone with close links to the Demons. Likely to stay at the Demons though for next season you'd think? I wouldn't be surprised at all if he requests a trade to Port at the end of next season. Has anyone on here heard similar?

I'd love to see it happen. Firstly I hate Melbourne but love watching Pickett play, I have a soft spot for Port so it would be much more palatable to see Kosi tear it up for you guys. And Byron Pickett during his Port playing days is one of my favourite non-lions players of all time(Yes even in spite of the fact that he carved us up in the 2004 grand final). I'd love to see his nephew play for Port as well, it would just feel right.

Rozee, Butters, JHF, Pickett... That's some serious potency.
Would LOVE it if it happened

Since Port can't trade future picks with the round 1 pick going, it'd probably need a third club who is happy to take the 2022 pick(s) and on trade their future 3rd to Geelong. Very doable.

Or we get a 3rd round future pick back from the JHF trade that goes to Geelong. I assume even when trading out a future first locks you out of trading other future picks, you can still trade where you have multiple picks in a round.

Brisbane need points this year for Ashcroft…

Not sure how it can even next year unless we lose one of our better young players to bring in the required trade capital.

Yes good point, after the Horne-Francis deal there is not much left in the 2023 cupboard. Apparently we are trading our first from next year in the JHF deal and we have yet to complete deals for Rioli and possibly Ratugolea. Those deals will possibly involve even more Draft picks.

Mitch Georgiades' name looms large in the wheeling and dealing for next year. Mitch is under contract in 2023 buit if he wants to return to WA and West Coast are keen it might be a three way deal involving Pickett? Pure speculation of course but if we want Pickett someone of value may have to go.

With Brisbane, how many years can they go into trade deficit??
This year they have Ashcroft as a high first rounder and Fletcher as a late first - so almost certainly going into points deficit.
2023 1st rounder going to Bulldogs for Dunkley
And in 2024 a second Ashcroft (Levi) coming through as another possible high first rounder - played in the final with his brother as an underage and was in the best players.
In theory if Bris trade next yrs first to Bulldogs most of their points/picks would have to be used as collateral to cover the shortfall from 2022.

From a quick Google search.........
The Bombers have transformed themselves into a premiership threat in the past year with a series of trade prizes, including Devon Smith, Jake Stringer, Adam Saad and, most recently, Dylan Shiel.

They gave up their 2017 first-round selection to Greater Western Sydney as part of the Smith deal, then handed over this year's and next to the Giants for Shiel.

Essendon last had a pick in the first round in 2016, when it made Andy McGrath the No.1 overall choice, and the Bombers also claimed Darcy Parish (selection five) and Aaron Francis (six) that way in 2015.

That means the Bombers satisfy the AFL's new rule, which comes into play next year, regarding the use of at least two first-round picks in the previous four-year period.

The only exception to that is where a club has applied for and received special permission, with the AFL weighing up the age of the players brought in and other draft selections used in that time.

The rule, outlined in the Determination for the trading of future draft selections document, is designed to protect teams from trading themselves into long-term trouble.
So (as usual) there will probably be some father/son exemption made for them because the AFL just make it up as they go.

The deficit comes off your first pick in the draft.

Let’s say the Bulldogs accept next years first and the McStay compensation for Dunkley. That would mean that if North bids on Ashcroft at 1, Brisbane will go into deficit straight away and not have any points to match Fletcher. I don’t think they ever planned for Fletcher to do as well as he has this year, and I think they made a conscious choice at a list management level that going after Dunkley was a better use of future picks than getting another young kid. Remember, their window is right now.

If the AFL stupidly lets them bid on Fletcher and go into the hole even further, then they can’t bid on a father/son or academy pick in any draft until the deficit has been paid - which would mean no bids in 2023 or 2024.

So next year, Brisbane’s second round and third round picks will attract the deficit - and you can’t bid on academy selections or father/sons when you are in deficit. They are basically trading out of next year’s draft completely - which is why I’ve said they are going all in on a flag in the next three years.

If he leaves next year he may request WA over SA.

I reckon Bergman might have a large role to play in this deal next year…
If that happens it makes the Dougal deal look even more disastrous. Could've just had Pickett from day one as well as keeping Howard if we agreed to play him down back where he belongs (wouldn't a key back be nice right about now?). But instead had to get fancy and throw in a needless first round downgrade all just to get... Dylan Williams.

And that's not even mentioning that we gave Ryder away for nothing as well. Some baffling moves that year.

People confuse the thought of what dougal’s potential is with what he actually does. Pretty ordinary defender that hasn’t really done much at the saints.

Or, they trade Pick 15 to us for our plethora of Picks we received yesterday from the Dees.
It is win, win; we get 15 and the Lions get more points (for their two f/sons)
