I totally agree with your first lines.
I remember hearing last year, or it could have been start of last year. About the draft I heard an interview with an assistant from wet toast pretty sure it was, pretty much saying that going forward no draftees will be taken that haven't attended private school. Does anyone else recall/know anything more about this.
I don't recall if it was the club or the league being referred to.

Just like Cousins, Kerr and Gardiner? Not sure about Fletcher, Hunter and Chick though.
Was in the last 2 years I heard it, but cannot recall if it was official. As I recall, I pretty much reckon wet toast will take that practice forward. I am just wondering if anyone has heard anything official from the vfl, or other clubs saying such things?

Adam Simpson made a general comment around safe recruiting because of cuts to football departments as a result of Covid.

“You’re more inclined to go safer in the draft and you’ll draft the same type of player — Mum and Dad are still married, kids go to the private school, not too much of a hassle off-field.

“You really want to go for the talent and geez this kid needs a lot of help, we can resource that with support around the mental health issues or family support or learning difficulties. These types of things you’re happy to take a risk on because you can resource it but we just don’t have that anymore.

JHF is so overrated. Like Luko before him, and Jaeger O’Meara before that. These massively hyped high draft picks tend to turn into solid, better than average players. People saying 2 first rounders aren’t enough are crazy. If you give up more than that for a single player you are screwing yourself over in the long run.
Can’t agree, this kid has a much higher ceiling. I’d be happy to swap him for anyone bar butter, rozee, Houston, allir, burton , Jones and MG

luko is a soft player, was in juniors and continues to be.. outside player

omeara has been basically bone on bone for a decade.. pretty good effort to get where he has.

The reality is it is very rare to get the opportunity to pick up a player with potential superstar quality like Horne-Francis. It's rarer again that said player is from SA and therefore there is almost a guarantee that you keep him for 10 years without any risk of the player leaving.

If you look at the premiership teams of the past few years - Melbourne (Petracca), Richmond (Martin), Dogs (Bont) - there is real evidence you need a top 1% player to win a flag and Horne Francis could be that. We would be kicking ourselves if we didn't go hard enough and the Crows got him.

If we saved any dollars from missing out on Dawson (who we didn't need) then we should be throwing all of that at Horne Francis. He's a contested beast, has goal sense, a good size and absolutely leaves it all out the field. He's exactly what we need and Rozee + JHF + Butters is an insane midfield combo.

Should tell Skinner to get in his ear and if he gets him over the line then wins a 1 year contract as a finder fee.

JHF stays at North another year we get him for a 2nd round pick or he walks to us in the draft. There's not a hope in Hell of another interstate club beneath us in the draft risking picking him up.

North also need him out of there JHF is part of their problem. He doesn't chase, he chooses his contests, he doesn't respect his team mates or play for them.

Any Michael Jordan comparisons about his attitude don't stack up Michael Jordan was never the problem.

Our absolute best offer is our 1st round pick and someone like Charlie Dixon although conspiracy theory Port are going to offer Sam Hayes.

Any mention of Butters North can get ****ed.

Crows will put up 2 firsts and a second if need be.

I just don’t think that’s remotely possible.

The trade suggestions for him before all this hoo-ha were ridiculous. They exceeded what star players or highly rated on potential players have moved for.

But posts like yours are also way too far in the opposite direction.

Maybe but the closer you look another year of not putting in at North and a salary demand in the draft that makes clubs think twice I can see interstate clubs thinking it's too hard.

I'll accept our 1st round pick is gone but the add on to that pick I'd be pretty nervous about.
There's some really good kids coming though in 2023 Ashton Moir, Duursma, Koltyn Tholstrup, Riley Hardeman, Dan Curtin, Ryley Sanders etc. Early Picks next year look like gold. Particularly anything that could land Moir.

JHF is exactly what we need and would complement our midfield very well.

From his perspective. Quiet kid who is a family guy. Taken pick one. North and fans place all hopes into him. He is thrust forward into the media and in North’s marketing. Every action is scrutinised. Every week he makes head lines. Where is North and the coach in standing up for their player? North have been terrible, worst team in a long, long time. Yet JHF is the headline? Goldstein arguing with him (we don’t know what was said!) but has Toddy been any good? Would have thought Todd would know not to publicly argue like that. Maybe don’t gut your side and then flame a first year player when he inevitably has some struggles playing in a division 2 side whilst receiving opposition and media attention. Who else stood up against Carlton? Maybe stand up and support your player. Is there any surprise JHF wants to leave? I’m more fascinated that none of the others do. King’s comments also don’t help.

Yea we need a small forward, to rebuild our backline and more midfielders, hell we need a list ‘rejuv’, but JHF makes us a lot better and is that 1% player you need for a flag. Two first rounders and get it done. Players sure - plenty of fringe players to add in, that would be instant first 22s at north.

Well don't just tell everyone they are wrong what do you think will get it done?

You strike while the irons hot. If he really hates North and or Malbun do the deal ASAP. Don't give him another year to think about it. The pressure on huim to stay at Norf will be immense and they will try everything to break him down, the Vic media wil play a part.

If we're serious about getting him, this is the year. Down year, similar draft position to Crows. Better tradable players than Crows. A few contracts ending to open up our cap space.

I don't think it will happen tbh there's a few things that can change including North sacking Noble.

They hold him to his contract & there might be some change thus a happier environment.
