Why would North go for Boaky? Look I love Trav as much as the next bloke but the guy has won sweet * all across his career. The utmost professional, and a great player absolutely but he’s overseen one of the least successful periods for our club. North want someone like Hodge, a champion leader who knows what it takes to win premierships and create a winning culture. Trav doesn’t have that.
North are just looking to be competitive at this stage. Boak would set the standard, he would add to experience to help young players and midfielders develop and he is just a quality person and player. North would be crazy not to look at a Boak. Saying that I’d only be slightly interested if they offer us a deal that involves a first rounder for boak and some shuffling of picks, which I doubt will happen

Probably going to absolutely cop it for this but……

I keep hearing 'someone like Hodge' and frankly it drives me a bit spare.

Firstly, who is there 'like Hodge' who is currently playing??? Name them. Now of them, who will go to North?

Secondly, there seems to be a fallacy that Hodge won premierships and created a winning culture all by himself. Hodge was surrounded by a champion coach, for 3 of the 4 premierships they won they had one of the greatest KPF of all time playing for them. They were able to recruit players with ease to fill holes in their list, helped a lot by them being a Victorian club. They swiped Shaun Burgoyne from us for 3 premierships, Stuart Dew for the 2008 Grand Final, and how many multiple AA players were playing for their team?

Face facts, if Trav had gone to Geelong, or Hawthorn, or Richmond to be closer to his family, which he would have been perfectly entitled to do, he may not have been 'like Hodge' but he would have been a leader at a premiership club with a winning culture no doubt and exactly what North are looking for.

Maybe I will cop it for this but Boak's mistakes are believing in Ken Hinkley, and staying at a club that doesn't get priority picks, bottoms out when expansion clubs get all the top picks. and that doesn't find it easy to recruit top shelf talent. You really think that if Hodge had played for Port and Boak didn't that the club would have won four premierships based on Hodge's influence alone? C'mon. Hodge would have been pissing into the wind just like Boak has done here for most of his career.

Boak joined a club that lost a grand final by 119 points in his first season. Imagine what a cooked football club you'd have to be to achieve that type of result. The culture was already screwed before he got here. It's unreasonable to expect one person to turn everything around. If he gets drafted to Geelong, he's a triple premiership player and held in the absolute highest esteem.

I would be thinking we should be going the other way. Ie, if there is a ‘Luke Hodge’ out there, why aren’t we getting him?

If Shane Edwards or Trent Cotchin get delisted, we should be offering some sort of deal. Maybe a rookie spot with coaching gig. Hell I would offer the same to Joel Selwood, Shannon Hurn, Josh Kennedy (either), Scott Pendlebury and Callum Ward. I’m sure there are some other candidates out there.

Guys to guide the youth, keep the Maggie’s solid, set the standard, maybe push Boak, Jonas, Dixon and Gray too, and fill as needed.

Buddy only won two of those four.

Joel Selwood wouldn't get his ducking frees if he was playing for Port...his career would be over by round 3.

I'd be keen for Shane Edwards just to see Marmozet's reaction.

The only one of those I'd be interested in is Pendlebury, the rest are pretty cooked, and I'm pretty sure Pendles is contracted so he won't be going anywhere. I'd rather see the club burn to a crisp than see us recruit Duckwood.

When I think of Hodge all I see is a slow motion replay of the time when he nearly broke Wingards neck, if that's leadership, your right, Trav will be no good.

Could have killed him and gets 2 weeks despite it being intentional, head high and high risk. Jonas hits a guy late and intentionally, gets six. Lycett 4 for the sling tackle.

I just watched it. Caro and then Lyon basically said exactly what I have been saying. But people have been saying that I'm thick because Boak can just walk to North as a free agent. Yes this is technically correct, but without massive, massive incentives (with probably AFL backed assistance) why would he go? The place is a complete stinking s**t heap. This is why a plan (and as much as we don't like it AFL intervened and orchestrated) where he goes to North and we get JHF (with other sweeteners to North). I'm really surprised after all these years you people question me.

You are right. I stand corrected. Only won 2008 and 2013. Then Hawthorn were left bereft with Roughhead and Gunstan who have kicked roughly 1000 goals between them.

It gets easier to win premierships and develop a winning culture when four of your Hawthorn forwards, Buddy, Roughhead, Gunstan and Breust have between them kicked 2037 goals.

You need that and a DUI under your belt to be a real leader. Trav must try harder.

Lol. Luke Hodge >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Travis Boak

I couldn't give a flying **** if he wrapped Wingards head around a pole or got dione DUI. He won 4 flags. He's a ****ing winner. Better than taking Homo Erotic Insta shots of your self doing ****ing strength poses in a ****ing RedBull Beret.

I like Trav but yea I'd take Hodge over him every day of the week, a lot of Port supporters have become as weak as piss in the last decade or so.

I don't mind that Gold Coast are finally keeping hold of players. Hope Stuey has some success there.
2024 is Quadrennium year, his final year of his new deal.

Those Quadrennium year is the year he has had great success one way or another, except for 2020 - covid ****ed that up.

Yep Hodge won 4 flags. The rest of the team and Clarko just sat back and watched.

Your true character, and your stellar grammar, are really coming to the fore.

Boak was mentioned because he would raise the level of professionalism among the group, rather than bringing successful premiership captain leadership.

Bit like when Brad Ebert came to Port after 4 years at WCE. He didn't have Hodge like leadership success, but he drove new higher standards at Port. Port players saw what sort of input they had to do to match Brad. That's what people are talking about Boak doing at North.

There is only 1 x 3 times premiership captain out there potentially available to repeat doing a Hodge at Brisbane, at North.

Classic case of the AFL being lenient because the result of the action wasn't that bad. Chad should have stayed down holding his neck for a while.

Chad's response was perfect. He went into god mode and tore the game apart. I'm sure it was that moment that convinced Clarko to get him to the Hawks at all costs.

Anyone know who Ralph thinks we are targetting? He's probably way off the mark anyway, but it's getting to that time of the year.

Jon Ralph said:
The outrage over Karl Amon leaving Port Adelaide is footy’s stupidest hot take.

The free agent will leave — with Hawthorn in front of a field including St Kilda, Melbourne and Carlton — and secure the Power a first-round compo pick.

And they will immediately slot a player into wing and half back from a long list that includes Xavier Duursma, Lachie Jones, Miles Bergman, Josh Sinn, Jackson Mead, Willem Drew or even veteran Travis Boak as the youngsters take over the midfield.

So they save $600,000 a season and don’t lose much in the position.

The money they save might ultimately see them have the cash for a crack next year at Jason Horne-Francis (his stepfather is former Port player Fabian Francis) or St Kilda’s Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera.
