If Hayes wants to go to GC, straight swap for Fiorini.

GC want him off the books and we won’t get anything more than a 3rd rounder for Hayes with how we’ve treated him.

I put Fiorini in the Will Brodie basket. Has his limitations but still undervalued by the Suns.

He can find the ball and spreads well. Thought we should have made a play for Brodie last year and look how solid he’s turned out now.
Strongly disagree. The last thing we need is another serviceable mid/half flanker type, our squad is full of them. If we don’t prioritise a KPD, small forward, & ruck then the club deserves no success, should hand in their license & join the local amateur league.

Oh we absolutely need all those things but we aren’t about to get them in a trade for Hayes. Well not a quality one anyway. We’re going to get peanuts for Hayes in a trade so if we get a ready made player who can step straight in, I think go for it.

I remember last year when I raised going after Brodie it was widely knocked down. Now he would instantly improve our side and is a key cog in a team looking to go top 4.

I think Fiorini certainly has a place in many teams midfield mix.

Coast have 3 second round picks. The can part with a couple of them.

There is absolutely no way we are getting a second for Hayes.

When his own coach has publicly stated he’s not ready for AFL and has to address his game before he even gets selected ahead of a part timer.

Regardless of how high we rate him, he’s worth peanuts on the trade table due to our clubs handling of him.

We’d be lucky to get a pick inside 50.

Last year. We trade out Ladhams because Hayes is so good.

This year, when Lycett is injured Hinkley refuses to play Hayes, so he asks for a trade and gets traded for peanuts.

What a joke.

I don't think Fiorini does anything that Dumont couldn't do. Seems a pointless pickup for us and for Fiorini himself, who'd be much better off going to a team like West Coast.

Every time I’ve watched Fiorini he’s a very solid midfielder. When he actually plays on ball, he regularly gets 30+ disposals and links up as a marking option. Even in the VFL this year in his 6 games, his lowest disposal tally is 33.

Yes he’s an accumulator without huge hurt factor but at least he finds the ball, runs and tackles.

Think his main knock has always been his lack of defensiveness and DE. He’s still only 24 and can see him offering plenty without setting the world on fire. Inside mids don’t need great DE as long as he’s winning the inside ball and clearances which he does.

2019 was easily his best year before he seemingly lost his place in the Suns midfield for whatever reason. Hell against us that year he had 38d, 4m, 1goal, 5 tackles and 9 inside 50s.

Hey Port fans, I haven't seen too many of his games, but what's happened with Hayes? There have been big wraps on him, but as you all say, isn't getting a game ahead of part timers.

Is it a Hayes - Hinkley thing, or are there too many areas of his game to work on?

He seems the perfect young ruckman the crows should be looking for.

Hinkley hates tall specialists, he wants small total football all-rounders, or talls that mimic smalls.

Hinkley dropped Hayes, said he wasn’t ready and has persisted with a losing strategy that’s costing us games since. Has lauded finlaysons games despite the fact his lack of competitiveness in the ruck is obvious, and his influence on games is coming outside of the ruck (in general play) in the same manner he provided when we played him as a 3rd tall forward. So we’ve actually not made a swap of Hayes for finlayson, we’ve moved Hayes out for mcintee to fit into finlaysons hff spot.

Anyway, Hayes is contracted for next year, and if he did ask for a trade I think it’s unlikely he wants to move across town, and wants to move into a rob, Strahan , thilthorpe logjam.

Port fans are hopeful Hinkley goes before Hayes does, but **** knows. None of us would blame Hayes for asking to go.

What’s happening with thilthorpe anyway? Was a ready made prospect who seems to have gone a bit backwards? Talented player who I rate but expected him to kick on quicker than this.

He was played earlier in the year and didn't show enough.

Seems like many posters are stuck in the 90's where playing a ruckman that is good at taps but offers nothing around the ground was a viable strategy.

My money is on Hayes improving his game and becoming a solid player in future years, but the current outcry on this board at his lack of AFL games is borderline delusional.

Yet McEntee plays week after week even though he is arguably the worst AFL player in the league. A historically bad footballer. Explain that one to me.

As a rookie ruckman with little experience he showed plenty.

Ruckman in first 7 games isn't Max Gawn. Fillum at 11

7th in the league for average hitouts per game. 31.7% Hitout to advantage, by comparison;
NicNat - 30.1% to Advantage
Darcy - 31.8% to Advantage
Gawn - 32.3% to Advantage

Definitely not showing enough for a 7 game ruckman.

So true. The alternative (3 wins, 6 losses and blooding nobody in the ruck) has worked out so much better in the short and long term, because um, Ken Hinkley said so?

trading ladhams was a horrible decision in retrospect

I literally just said he was good at taps

One is a small forward and one is a ruckman. Did you want Hayes to replace McEntee? Not sure he'd be able to offer the same defensive pressure.

There's been way too much bashing of McEntee on this board for my liking. It's not his fault he's been playing out of his natural position. Give the kid a break he's barely played a handful of games.

I generally dont like to call things out.......

How many games has Sam Hayes played?

Yes I do want to replace McEntee with Hayes. Honestly Hayes could just stand there and do nothing and he would do almost as much as McEntee. At least he wouldn't turn the ball over.

Fiorini only spreads one way
