I think we are underestimating where our team is at and I think with a couple of good ins we can push for a premiership in the next couple of years
If we’d even won half the close games we’d be in the 8 and teams would be worried about us
If we have a big war chest I’d be putting it to use this year.
I’d offer next years 1st and maybe a player like Dbj or bonner for gold coasts 3 2nd rounders. Use a 2nd rounder on Grundy and amons compo on Dunkley still be able to pick up hopefully phillipou and Hayes and have an extra 2nd rounder spare for a small forward
With Dunkley in it allows rozzee and butters to rotate mid/for so gives us the dangerous forward we need and with Grundy the midfield will get better delivery to them and allows finlayson to stay forward. I’d even tempt them to choose us by front ending our payments to them. And next year we’ll have another big war chest as Dixon and Lycett will be gone who are both on big contracts.

These close games have created this false economy.

We didn't lose because we were only just a little bit worse than the opponent. Most of our close losses have come from large comebacks where we slammed on goals in a rush when the oppo dropped off. When the time came to stand up, even with our momentum teams have been far too good for us and hold us off.

We are actually exactly where we deserve to be, and our plight is exactly that of a 12th placed team.

We have a serious issue in the ruck with no plan to resolve it (hint: Lycett isn't the answer), we are completely devoid of small forwards with Robbie cooked, Rozee & Butters in the middle, and Fantasia permanently injured, we also have a serious issue down back in the key position department. All of this is topped off by our desperate need to find another gun mid. Rozee & Wines we can build around, but Drew isn't coming along, Mead looks like he'll follow a similar path to Drew, so we really need a JHF type here to really solidify this midfield.

Also knowing Amon, Boak, Dixon, Jonas, R Gray, McKenzie, Mayes should all be gone by end of 2023 leaves a huge amount of talent and depth we need to replace with limited draft picks available. Possibly we might lose Bergman and Hayes by the sounds of it too.

Our list is in a really shit position. Really shit. Poor management and a lack of action in advance has hurt us big time. If Rozee and Marshall hadn't had such massive break out years we'd be in huge trouble.

We didn't, we haven't and we don't win those games

For a team with primary key position players at the end of their careers (Jonas, Dixon) and a coach that in all likelihood will be gone before seasons end 2024, (WARNING: DELUSION) ideally 2023. If we are recruiting a player worth of filling a massive salary cap underspend then they will be require high draft capital value to actually obtain their rights.

In no way do we trade first rounders unless it is for players that are going to be a star 150+ gamer for Port.
We have no second rounder this year, we gave it up to move 2 spots last year to draft Sinn.
Phillipou is likely to be gone by our first rounder, we will need to trade up to get him.
Grundy has looked uninterested and/or cooked since signing his $7m contract. Do not want. Collingwood will not continue to pay part of his contact for the entirety of it, probably only 2023 and maybe 2024.
Even if we have a BiG wArChEsT next year we are probably still going to need to actually pay up draft capital for them unless we get lucky with a free agent actually choosing us (see Merrett end of 2022 for example of this gone wrong).

I'm not sure where this belief comes from. Ross Lyon parroted this exact BS reason with no evidence to back it up. Fact is, we don't win the close ones and never have and never will. One more magical year of Hinkley isn't going to override 10 years of mediocrity, choking and a horrendous record against top 8 teams.

Until Hinkley goes, the push for a premiership is irrelevant.

"If Hinkley-coached Port didn't do what Hinkley-coached Port does..."

Didn't Adelaide offer Norf 3 first rounders or something to get a hold of pick 1? Just another dumb decision by Norf. If they get Clarkson I hope it blows up in their faces. They need to go to Tasmania

Yes they did but one of those was linked to Melbournes first round pick they got, so late first round, and Adelaide wanted a future second round back as well.

So give up 3 first round picks, get back pick 1 and an early round 2 pick. It suddenly doesn’t look as lucrative as Adelaide supporters would want you to believe.

who at the club is leaking out this "war chest".... its so predictable
Well we already know Cos leaks to Eddie.

And Holly leaks to Caro.

Given we have done nothing about either of these it's hardly surprising that there are more.

Phillipou is likely to be gone by our first rounder, we will need to trade up to get him.

Phillipou is a very good chance of being at our pick imo. Wardlaw, Tsatas, Clark, Sheezel above him according to most draft experts. He's in a group after those with Busslinger, Cadman, Humphrey, Hewett and MacKenzie.

If he's gone, I'd be more than happy to draft Bailey Humphrey. Could even slide back a little bit and grab a second rounder and draft Humphrey with first. The 3rd person on my wishlist with our first pick is Brayden George.

I can still see us getting pick 4
Just because they have decided to keep KH doesn't change my mind in that we could lose against Bombers and crows.
This means we finish 13th so do we we trade pick 4 for JHF or take the best player at 4th.
I believe we can turn JHF around and quickly but pick 4 give us who if we keep it

If we get a top 5 pick we should use it ourselves unless North take it for JHF.

4 might give us Wardlaw. Largely depending on Busslinger going early. The top 4 isn't set in concrete.

So he'll have made the AA team twice and won a B&F within the next three years then?
I’m talking about attitude not football talent.
His first year hasn’t been close to Chads first year but he has the same attitude that gets you moved on in time.
He’s no AA or B&F he’s FIGJAM that has been dropped from the worst football team in the competition.
