Look im unhappy with dougal being traded and i wanted ken gone too. But this board has basically turned into drama queen central. Each to their own and i am not against those of you who wont be members next year, but this is still our club and come round 1 i will be there with bells on. End of next year if things havent improved we move on with new people at the helm from 2021 and get on with it. Lets not totally implode amongst ourselves and give other supporters more reason to throw mud at us.

As I suggested some days ago Mitch Cleary on Trade Radio suggesting Montgomery didn't rate Howard as highly as Bassett did, which is part of his move out of defence and hence the club.

I'll put my hand up and say I've not been a fan of us getting Montgomery and pushing Bassett forward ..... to me it felt like a move brought about as a forced move following us losing Nicks and trying to bring in a replacement in a hurry....

EDIT: I recall when we got Bassett from Essendon I was happy - moreso in the fact we were using him as a defensive coach ... which is what he's good at, and pointed out Essendon had misused him pushing him forward. I fully get coaches wanting to coach different lines to build up there resume, but we should also have an eye to whats best for our coaching structure .. rather thanb "developing" coaches for other clubs at our expense.

This trading of middle aged talent and trying to trade up in the draft is telling me that Hinkley is here for longer than what we hope. It will get ugly and unfortunately the only way for change is for things to get excruciatingly ugly.

Man, I'm so deflated by all of this.

Between last year's trade period and this year's trade period, we're clearly positioning ourselves for a serious rebuild. The order of both trade periods has been to trade out good prime age players with currency for first round draft picks, get talent through the door, build for the long term. So we're left with a team half full of promising young players and half full of ageing veterans who have fired their best shots. This is not a recipe for a premiership or even finals, it's a recipe for the bottom 6.

Now, this is all well and good on some level. It's probably true that we missed our premiership window circa 2014-2017 and should be looking longer term now. But that being the case, why are the same people who failed to capitalise on that window of opportunity still in charge of this rebuild? And why are we as supporters just expected to sit back and accept this fact, despite watching our team miss the finals for 9 of the past 12 years and now facing another however many years in the wilderness whilst the team is rebuilt again?

The whole thing is just so depressing.

Let's not forget the club's narrative this whole year has been that we are a young team, and they expected this year to be a slight dip before a significant resurgence next year.

So they were always pushing that next year was going to be better. Hard to see how that happens when you're losing established players and not bringing any in.
