hahaha this is just laughable - Hodge grabs the ball gets tackled front on had literally no chance in the world to try and attempt to get rid of the ball and gets pinged - 30 seconds later Hdoge gets the ball, gets tackled front on again in a replica to the tackle earlier and doesn't get pinged, a different umpire was in the area

Also 3 other decisions agains the Hawks, Bateman being one of them were crap

This rule is just getting worse and worse, every umpire has there own interpretation its becoming the laughing stock of the AFL

Anyone else watching the game?

Im not saying they hav faoured Sydney becaue they got dudded in the first quarter but the holding the ball decisions against a team on fire and always first to the ball to get pinged for playing hard footy is ridiculous

There's been some tough ones each way. Not the worst game I've seen umpire-wise.

It was absolutely shocking umpiring but both ways not just in favour of the swans. The holding the ball was insane. I just wish the umpires would put the whistle away and let them play footy.

Bad decisions both ways but would have thought the Hawks were harder done by than us. Perennial issue of decisions being given depending on what part of the field they're in. There were a lot of holding the ball calls made but in the umps defence, the tackling was better than standard AFL offering.

Call me a footy tragic but I went to today's and last night's game, the holding the ball rule was interpreted extremely differently in those two games. No wonder why fans get frustrated. Umpire McBurney seems to never put his whistle away, some of his holding the ball decisions defied logic today. I agree the umpiring was bad both ways today, Sydney may have had slightly the better of the dodgy decisions, but they deserved to win as they were a much better side for the last 3 quarters.

The holding the ball rule changed interpretation at half time in this game it became a farce where the player first to the contest was being penalized the first player being the Hawks in general made for a run of clearances for Sydney from which a run of goals came.

I wouldn't quite say that, the swans pressure after quarter time was very good. They also won quite a few clearances due to their pressure and not due to umpiring decisions. Can't blame the umpires for that result, the swans fully deserved to win....

Everything within the game influences the game what is with this peddling of the word blame as if it means something worthwhile, blame acknowledgment against is as much shirking as for.

The focus of this topic is on the umpiring.
The umpiring when done well is not noticed clearly it was noticed.

Not quite sure if the grammar lessons were comprehended by you in your earlier years, as the first sentence does not make sense to me, what are you trying to say?

Re the second sentence I agree re that umpiring is well done when it isn't noticed, but the topic says the umpires we a dissgrace (sic) in the game; they were not a disgrace and they were not biased and did not favour one side. Sydney did not win the game due to the umpiring, they won because they were the better side for the last 3 quarters.

agree with everything you said, but I do think the momentum of this game was changed by the goals gifted to leapin' leo in the 2nd quarter. The swans had really been struggling to score up to that point. The camera's missed the incident in the goal square (a hold on Barry Hall I believe), but no-one could argue about him being grabbed after he took the mark, or Boyle tripping Leo over after a free was awarded against Boyle. Boneheaded play by young players - not dissssgraceful umpiring.

Complaining about the umpiring is one thing. But have you ever thought about how hard it really is to do? Somehow I don't think you do give a shit. You probably think that it is all easy. Trust me when you are out there it's hard has hell.

umps were a disgrace, McBurney should be fired.
those 50s were ridiculous and turned the game, just ask leo barry.

What's the game coming to when you can't trip up an opponent going back to take a free kick, throw someone down in the goal square 50 metres from play and run in late to hold a free kick up and give your defense more time?

Shocking.

Yep :thumbsu:.

The umpires were shocking in what they did to the game but they weren't biasing either side.
