Fair enough. As you probably gathered the continued reference to this has got my back up previously and I might have been a bit harsh. Xavs a great club and I have enormous respect for them.

I’m in favour of the concept as long as they eliminate age anomalies. Under 20s means exactly that. No 20 ½ or exceptions for over age reserves players not getting a game. I would suggest most of the better 20 years old would be playing seniors or at least wanting to play 2s but the plan does have some merit. I reckon they should do the same with the 18s. Too many variations now with overage kids and 18 1/2s. Just make it under 18 as of 1st of January and be done with it.

Im sure if you made it Jan 1 next year as the cut off and not June 30 this year or whatever it is then the numbers would be alot higher!! I agree with you with this bullsh*t 1/2 year stuff though... same with TAC Cup and the overage players!

How would you structure up the revised competition God Yeah ?

Million Dollar question.

The nature of the U/19 competition is that it is cyclical and the difference bewtween a rise and a fall can only be a number of seasons (See St Barnyards/St Kevins/Weribee).

I don't agree with a "Top 5 bottom 5" split mid year, by that point it's too late.

While the ammo's take great pride in their relegation and promotion system I think it does not need to apply in the U/19's. Teams could apply to be promoted or relegated at the end of a season depending on where in the cycle they believe they are. This would promote an even spread of teams across all divisions.

The clubs are the ones who best know themselves unfortunatly the boys HQ think otherwise.

Clubs like De La and Xavs are an exception as their success in the last decade (across all levels) has drawn the cream of the crop from junior football clubs. But considering both these clubs have no feeder junior club i tip my hat at their sustained success.

I'm not the best at solutions (and mine has holes in it) and would love those on big footy to pen their thoughts - it would be a lot better than some bloke who get on this forum after a few cans telling everyone how good they are.

Interesting results from yesterday's game.

SBMT getting up over De La Salle was a great effort for the boys in Brindisi Street
Fitzroy getting their first win in Premier Section against the Blacks.
OM's pushing Scotch for most of the game. From outsider perspective OM's have regrouped and should improve as the weeks progress.
OX stamped their authority with the two pronged forward setup Barry and Hannon running riot. Possibility one of the best forward lines in recent memory if they can continue to reproduce those efforts for the remaining games of 2011. I can't recall when last a Centre Half Forward and Full Forward contributed 14 goals in a game in premier section ? I am open to be wrong as I was with one of my tips last week.:(
Also Beauy kicking 31 goals after quarter time against Old Brighton.

De La decimated but full credit to St Bedes. Great effort and deserved the win.
De La really feeling the pinch of a long injury list extending right through the club. Their second under 19 team is ultimately baring the brunt with quite a few who would be in South 2 playing in the Premier team to replace the many injured players. 3 more long-term injuries sustained yesterday.

Beauy V Brighton - Margins of that size should not happen in Premier division. Not good for either side. Hope OBs can be more competitive as games like that are pointless. Xavs look almost unbeatable. Shades of the De La 2010 version perhaps.

And what’s the story with Uni Blues. Are Xavs that good or did the Blues just have a stinker? There was a bit of optimism at the uni about their prospects this year so yesterday’s result must be very disappointing.

While De La had a good spread of goal kickers last year in 2009 the De La FF & CHF routinely kicked big bags. I reckon one day at Rupo Muller and O’Connell kicked 18 or 19 between them.

Did St Bedes field a stronger side on the weekend than they have in the first two rounds? Don't like this talk about De La being decimated by injuries, it's all part of the game.

Beauy vs OB - Agree with everyone else, games like this shouldn't happen in premier division. OB were right with beauy at qtr time, then just got blown away.

Xavs vs Uni Blues - puts all the pre season uni blues hype to bed.

Fitzroy vs Uni Blacks - good to see the roy boys get a win on the board

Scotch vs OM - OM right in the game in the first half, looks like accuracy was a problem for scotch.

It was not used in the context of an excuse and St Bedes the better side on the day and as I said deserved the win. And no I don’t think their team was any stronger than the first 2 rounds. Agree that injuries are a part of the game and at some stage all clubs will be hit to varying degrees. It was raised just to give a bit of insight to those who follow the grade closely as to why quite a few of the better known players might be missing.

While it slightly weakens their Premier team it has a far the greater impact on their second team.

I think you mean Barry and Hannan?

Interesting to see De La lose their first match in 24 odd matches? Rooster how were St Bedes? they a finals team? and its never easy playing down at Brindisi St!

Also was only a matter of time before OM's started to pick up.. now that their coach has had 3 games and 2 months with them now!

De La a little off the boil but St Bedes good and deserved the win. Their goal kicking was excellent – 9.0 in the first half. Game could have gone either way and pretty tight all day. Bit early to make a call on finals but both sides will be thereabouts. Xavs seem a fair bit in front of the rest at the moment.

Fixed it muff :) thanks

back to the unevenness of the competition. it may sound a bit over the top but after 9 rounds, i think each team plays each other once. could we ask the bottom 2 teams to drop out and just end their years there? or just drop back to s1 n1 and start from nothing.just have byes in prem to fill the gaps.

as previous posts stated, the u19 premier competition is one of the best underage comps in australia. 200 point wins and sides not scoring is unacceptable.

Good call JD. The last 2 seasons a couple of teams have battled but nothing like this. Results like this are terrible and should never happen in a graded competition. While a bye is not a good outcome I would even consider dropping Old Brighton now. Results like yesterdays are no good for anyone. A lot of merit in your suggestion and I wonder if the VAFA would be progressive enough to consider it.

I am really concerned what xavs could do to old Brighton. Considering last round xavs won by 7 or 8 goals against beauy. Agree with JD it is supposed to be one of the best comps outside the TAC.

You really do have to be concerned! Xavs beat Beauy by 50 and for Beauy to win by 210+ anything could happen... but I doubt the VAFA would let anyone drop back now as it is rated as the best underage comp outside of the TAC Cup in this state.... I think they would rather see Old Brighton lose by 100+ every week as bad as that sounds!!!

i dont think the severity of saturdays game is being taken seriously. 100 point loses are considerably bad in this competition but this was a margin of 200+. it should send a stern message to the board of the VAFA and something needs to be done. This shouldn't happen ever let alone in the premier division, rated Australia's best junior competition outside TAC cup.

Other than that well done to Bede's taking out De La, partially confirms De La's dominance will not be evident as much this year.

After the first three rounds it's fair to say that the Xavs have the premiership in the bag. Accounted for the Blues on the weekend and just going about their business nicely. Everyone should basically give up playing for the premiership now - it's Xaviers to lose.

Tips for this week:

Beaumaris vs Fitzroy - Beaumaris to make it back to back and win by 50

Uni Blacks vs Old Scotch - Scotch should stay undefeated and win easily

Old Melburnians vs Uni Blues - Old Melbourne are starting to show a bit and with Blues coming off a belting... Im saying it will be close all day and I'll be tipping OM's to break the duck!

Old Xavs vs St Bedes - Clearly the match of the round with the inform team in the comp in Xavs and St Bedes coming off a win against a De La side which had won 26 straight before last week... I still think OX should win again and to win by 6 goals or so

De La vs Old Brighton - I'm just hoping De La still have injuries as if De La had 2/3's of their best team on the park they'd win this by 200!!! could be ugly! Old Brighton might aswell not show up!!

Thoughts?

whoever said that Hannon and Barry could be the most dangerous or damaging or whatever fwd pair in years obviously never got to see muller and o'connell in action in the 2009 season muller kicked just shy of 70 goals whilst playing a few games in A grade and VFL. O'Connell also playing a few senior games. Sounds like Barry has really improved because I did witness B. Humphrey give him a bath in a 2010 season game, kid just looked scared but good on him. not many people can say they have kicked 9 goals no matter who there playing.

Muller and o'connell were a good combo and very tough to beat, as you could see noone did in that 09 season. You cant say that because B. Humphrey towered up Barry that Barry is no good. I remember Muller getting towered up by James Bliesner ( Beaumaris ) in the same season where muller kicked 70 in 9 ish games. where muller got barely manage a goal.

Tips this week:

Beaumaris over Fitzroy

De La over Old Brighton

Old Scotch over Blacks

OM Over Blues

Xavs too strong for bedes

Not to often that Muller got beaten in 2009 but Jimmy Bliesner was good player. Is he still having a kick? I remember that game. While Muller was quiet O’Connell kicked a bag and De La still won easily. And no disgrace getting towelled by the back line De La had last year. In 20 games only once did they concede 10 goals.

This week:
Beaumaris V Roys Sharks by plenty

De La V OB Still a few weeks from having their best side but will smash OB

Scotch V Blacks Scotch rolling along nicely and will be far to good for Blacks.

OM V Blues A must win for Blues and they will just get over the line.

Xavs V St Bedes Xavs in top form and will win but will have to work hard.

Good work rooster tipping five from five last week.

From this weekend just passed we learnt that xavs is still rolling along well. Keeping St.bedes goal less in the first half.

Fitzroy are improving each week. Were beauy lucky to get the points ?

Scotch did well after quarter time to beat the blacks.

OMs will win soon after a spirited game against the blues and de la got the job done against Brighton.

I fear for Brighton's dignity this week against Xavs. Predicting a 250+ winning margin.

Also looking forward to the Scotch v De La Salle match, tipping the De La boys to get the job done this week (5 goals).
