Sam Shaw. The stigma is that loose man in defense gets easy kicks but in reality takes a lot of courage and a good football brain.

From my mob; based on your criteria:

Leigh Adams - 24 years and 5 months
Sam Wright - 22 years old
Lindsay Thomas - 24 years and 6 months - i know this is contreversial, but even i underrate him. Always in top few goalkickers for north, was rookie drafted, i will admit his drama needs to stop, ie falling to ground, diving, silly behaviour, frees against etc

From Richmond Dylan Grimes is the obvious one. He's played to a very high level when he's managed to get on the field, but unfortunately two season ending injuries means he's only played ~15 games over the last 2 years.

In the clubs BnF he averaged the 4th most votes per game. Would've been right up there if he finished the season.

Sounds just like his brother then.

Matthew Broadbent and Tom Jonas from Port.

Broadbent has turned himself into an accumulating goal-kicking outside midfielder with good skills (although admittedly he's prone to the odd clanger) and Tom Jonas is smashing his opponent week in week out, with a list of scalps including Steve Johnson, Tom Rockliff and Dustin Martin. And yet the majority of opposition supporters probably wouldn't know them if they walked past them on the street, especially Jonas.

Naming young Geelong players feels like cheating, so here are some young opposition players who have impressed me this year who I haven't heard much about:

Brandon Ellis (This kid has so much composure for a first year player. Going to be a star)
Steven Morris (How is this guy not a cult figure already? Probably my favourite player outside of the cats)
Clancee Pearce
Sam Shaw (Where do Adelaide keep finding these solid key defenders?!)
Jack Steven
David Ellard
Josh Green
Luke Russell
Ben Howlett
Michael Walters

Brodie Smith for us.

Played nearly every game this year and has really stepped up in the back end of the season. Was one of our best against Sydney. Built like a twig but is a powerful if unorthodox kick.

Johnson is only 20, but has held down a key spot in the league's best defence over the past 2 seasons. He has a very underrated disposal and seems to be rarely beaten one on one. Taken at pick 57 in the 2010 draft, he was initially a surprise selection into the team, but has never looked at of place and has remained in the team ever since.
Cannot agree enough about Johnson, I think it's a little bizzare that he didn't get a RS nomination last year then we see Talia end up winning the whole thing this year- obviously play a different role, but both tall defenders who have stepped in to do excellent jobs. Johnson is only going to be turning 21 at the start of next season and will already have nearly 50 games under his belt (in a very successful side, too).

Cale Hooker.

He’s 23yo, was a late pick, has played 60 games, and has been our no.1 key defender for two years, taking the best forward every week.

Yet all most people remember is his inability to run down Buddy Franklin... in his first game back from a hamstring, mind you.

He looks ungainly so attracts criticism. His successes are ignored, his failures amplified.

Maybe you should tell your coach - was on the trade last year and big chance to be on the table again this year.
