When we sold the games we were finacially up shitcreek and it was a necessary evil. Now we are more secure i hope they can somehow break next years contract... But that 500k could fund out reserves. If only the players could pull the finger out north of the Gabba.
I hope the club shows some balls rather than take the weak option , and doesn't axe next years contract . We must beat shit sides regardless of where we play them . It's likely GC will ask , with their home game, against us to be played in Cairns every year from now on and who'd blame them .

I agree, to blame Cairns is pathetic. As pointed out numerous times their actions in the last three minutes were VFL standard, no wonder i thought Dimma was going to burst out crying in his presser.

No wangs its not splittibg hairs it's common sense , the way we played cost us the game and nothing else . We didn't play good enough football to win the game . It's possible we may have had a greater advantage and played better if in Melbourne , but if we and gold coast played the same , the result would be the same .
Also the excuses people have rolled out over the last 4-6 weeks have been ridiculous . It rained , we played after it rained the week before , injuries , 2 of our players got on the piss , players reported .
FFS the players walked onto the ground and they are the ones who determine the result . Regardless of what transpires during the game if they are good enough they'll win . A loss on gold coasts pad wouldn't be exceptable but hey we moved the game , let's blame that . Time to harden up and stop making excuses , our list isn't good enough and the side the took to the ground on Saturday wasn't good enough to win the game .
Sorry for the rant back sick to depth of the excuses .

I agree in theory and I also agree we should be able to beat them whenever wherever but selling our soul to play in Cairns better be for short term gain rather than long term. We could have have 3 games in a row at the 'G' at worst etihad on Saturday night with no travel concerns.
I have never stated or blamed weather for our losses, by in large we have been unable to ice the games when we needed to.
We lost fair and square on the field and I will be bitterly disappointed if the club continues to sell home games when the competition is so close..

Surely you can see some sense in that??

Selling games was always short term pain for long term gain. We got a bit more pain out of it than we would like, but it doesn't change why the initial decision was made. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. But how far do you want to go back regretting decisions? '05? '00? '97? '95? '92? etc etc etc.

Just like in "real" life you live with your decisions good and bad, learn from them, and get on with it. While I agree probably would have won in Melbourne, it doesn't change the fact we should have won that game anyway. Blaming it on the admin is a total cop out, and deflects from on field stuff that you can bet Hardwick is not ignoring.

Play up there until we beat them.

1 home game ffs- fact is we ought beaten them on the MOON. but didnt. even tho theyve been playing some good footy recently. (ok not much good footy) They are going to get better real fast and SO ARE WE. Im looking forward to the Cairns rivalry develop when we are both in it for the finals.

To be honest I thought this was part of the deal - 2 games in Cairns, lose both of em. I didnt even know you could bet on it.

Lets be honest, Gale would not have sold the games, unless the income return was too good, to put back into the debt.

People forget, it was a pretty steep hill we had in terms of dollars, so I don't think it was just a few quid.

we did this deal in 2010 when we had 4m debt, hardly any development coaches and plans to redevelop PRO with funding short falls and this was given to us when the afl said NO to hobart games and didnt know what afl distribution was going to be.at the time the club would have been an idiot to say no. yes we dont want to give a legup to other clubs but the club would've still expected the team to win anyway so at the time it was a no brainer with the 1.5m coming in. i would also say we could have lost both games in melb they way we played so just saying we would have won is folly imo. we can clutch defeat at any venue.

I think the fixture gives us a distinct ($500 k) advantage over other sides , which we should be using part of that cash in improving our club .
If part of that improvement is to improve our football department so that we don't have to have players within our side who lose the unloseable , so be it .
I'd rather we keep the fixture and use the cash for our own VFL side , or the like , which would not only mean we don't lose that game but also assists in winning other games during the year .
Keep the fixture , toughen up the players , it's our list that lost the game , not Cairns .
It's be surprised if the corresponding game doesn't occur every year in the foreseeable feature . Only difference is whether we host it and gain the 500k or we hand it to GC and they gain the 500k.

Some of the efforts in that last 2-3 minutes where nothing short of disgraceful.
Yes.
You knwo wha i reckon the best way to ice the clock is? Score.
18pts up and another goal wins no matter what the opposition comes up with.
You won't see anythng like those final 55 seconds ever again in the history of the AFL, or at least in our lifetime. It was truly a once in 70 year event.

Two things just watching it then, i couldnt spot Cotch anywhere in the last 40-50 seconds and wasnt visible at all (to me) at the last center bounce to when Hunt took the grab. Where was he?

The other, its hard to put blame when so many series of events take place, but an uncharacteristic fumble by Lids with 17 seconds to go at the final center ball up was costly. If he had take it he would have been wrapped up and 5 or so seconds would have gone. Thats not to say we still might not have lost, but it shows the fine line between winning and losing.

What shits me is that Rance knew that it was desperation stage and hit the ball thin with his punch on the ball in a desperate effort and it rolls and rolls and doesnt go over the line. Had it gone over the line, even if the ump calls it deliberate we win. It can only happen to the tiges..

Im the opposite, i thought he done well contorting his right arm around his left side to flick it out, then the second effort to just get a hand to it was great play and desperation.

I agree. Also, for me he shouldn't have gone to ground. If he didn't he could have followed up with a tackle when he buggered up the punch on the ball. No composure. That was the difference (but it wasn't just him). Hopefully he will learn.

Come on man he has copped a knock and had busted his arse all day and there was him and 3 suns around him. The only way he was going to make contact was to lunge. How you can lunge and keep your feet has got me ****ed, maybe you can illuminate us.
