Im the opposite, i thought he done well contorting his right arm around his left side to flick it out, then the second effort to just get a hand to it was great play and desperation.
He goes to ground far too often. He did it again. His desperate effort to get his hand on the ball was gutsy. But don't go to ground.

I agree. Also, for me he shouldn't have gone to ground. If he didn't he could have followed up with a tackle when he buggered up the punch on the ball. No composure. That was the difference (but it wasn't just him). Hopefully he will learn.

he went to ground because brenan fell on him . right in the back.

Yeah I did have to add it. He is one of the most senior players on the team. That kick should never have been attempted.

Still does not excuse the cheap shot you had at him implying that he is ******ed.

Poor form.

Not having a go at Rance, i am having a go at the gods....Rance busted his arse to get something onto that ball and get it to the boundary and away from the pack of Suns on his hammer with no other tiger within sight.

He twists his body and right arm across his left side, cups his hand backwards at the same time to get the ball boundary side, totally off balance with Brenans hands on his lower back manages to change direction and "dive" to try and get a hand on the ball. Super effort and im staggered some are having a go at him for it.

didnt see that peejay and of course neither did the umps..they werent going to see anything that was going to impede anything but the ball going into the suns F50.
Lets put it this way, if Hunt hadnt taken the mark, bet my bottom dollar the whistle was ready to blow a free his way..so once that ball was screwed back into the 30 m mark we were ****ed either way..

I dont know why, but I just watched the replay.

So many things just dont make any sense. I barely saw a player man up Ablett the entire day - he's probably the best player in the comp and we let him run his own race. We aren't Collingwood, we cant go head to head with a player of his quality because we dont have the depth. After Cotch and Lids, our list just falls into an abyss.

Why did we activate our sub so early? Towards the end Derrickx and Graham were liabilities, and batch and Newman were struggling with injuries. Ridiculous decision considering the conditions.

Why didnt we get every player flooding back in the last 20 seconds? How does a former rugby player have so much space when the game is on the line?? Even taking into account that Houli is a soft, useless, unaccountable squib - he should have had 3 other players in the area spoiling that contest.

And the biggest one - why is Cotchin on the bench for the last contest? Coaches know how long there is to go and this was a monumental stuff-up. Maybe Hardwick coming to the boundary line with 10 minutes to go contributed to this, IMO he coached really poorly.

People keep blaming Hardwick for Cotchin.

You useless campaigners.

Who knows the situation?

Maybe Hardwick was trying to yell at someone to come off for Cotchin?
Maybe Cotchin got a knock and couldn't come on?
Maybe Cotchin was so buggerd, and it was his rotation, he couldn't come on?

"Oh, but Cotchins leadership and class would have been the difference"
Idiots, if he was buggerd, jogging out to the middle, and having no impact would not have helped us, only hindered us in that last contest.
As much as I love him, he isn't the greatest player the ever grace an AFL list, not yet anyway.

Or..... Maybe Hardwick should have a better understanding of how long a match has to go and put his best centre clearance players in there.

I know I would have preferred Tuck and Cotchin over Grigg and Conca. But hey, it was only basically our season on the line.

Because Webberley is hopeless and was playing as such.

I just watched the game too and agree with most of this. No leadership composure on field in the last couple of minutes was costly.

Watched footy classified last night and the very quick glimpse they showed it appeared to be A.Maric , Edwards , Tuck and Gus.
Need to watch replay , but IIRC the ball went to a Richmond player ( A.Maric ) who handballed directly to Ablett ?

Thanks RP. I couldn't remember who was in there. This pretty much highlights our lack of midfield depth, to have Maric and edwards in at the most important centre bounce of the game.

Actually as someone else has pointed out I was wrong , watching the replay the 3 in the centre square at the last bounce were Conca , Deledio and Grigg and Grigg was the players who coughed it up .

Disclaimer : had a few on board when watching footy classified last night .

Was always in doubt when Griffiths and Ivan were out. Had a feeling all week we would drop this game, and dropped a $10 on Gold Coast, and also a $5 on Jack for first goal. Both came through, which limited the pain, but I was still angry.

However look at it this way. The GC would be used to temperatures similar. The humidity etc was always going to favour them. GC, were almost full strength, with Bock the only notable out, but we had 7+ players all in our best 22 missing. It isn't the end of the world.

Cotchin had less clearances than Conca.
So he should he takes little responsibility for an opponent , no more evident than the last centre clearance . Tuck and/or Cotchin , our 2 quite easily best clearance players , not in the centre for the final and most important clearance was a mistake ,IMO .

Oh right. I couldn't bring myself to watch footy classified, or any football show sober at the moment in fear of seeing hunts goal again.. the tv wouldn't make it out alive.
Still we really needed cotchin or tuck in there. Grigg aint much help in the middle.

Surely Cotchin being vice captain and general superstar player can just put himself in the centre square if he wants to??

Yea he can, but if he crosses the boundary line whilst his side already has 18 players upon the ground , the opposition is awarded a free kick and 50 mtr penalty .
Maybe he has some intelligence ?

don't understand this ' As bad as we played we would have won in Melbourne. ' ?
If we'd have played the same and gold coast played the same I'd have thought the result would have been the same .
Do you really believe that? Do you really think we would have lost in Melbourne?
I was saying that we could afford to play that bad & still win in Melbourne & that strenghens my argument that we should not sell our home games interstate giving our opposition whoever they are an advantage.
And for the the record again of course we should have won that game from that position no doubt!
But we dropped those simple chest marks & fumbled due to humid slippery conditions i would have thought.
But if the game was in Mellbourne we would not be having this discussion because we win end of story.

If we need home ground advantage to beat the bottom side , 3 years into a rebuild , our football department has serious issues. . Which I agree is currently the case . To rectify this the club believes it need more expenditure which I am happy to wear .

I watched the first half before heading to work and listened to the third quarter. In the first half at least, Cotchin pretty much went head to head with Ablett. There were a bunch of times Cotch let him go at the stoppage and GAJ ended up with the footy.

man, You just don't get it do you? you seem to look at it in a way that suggests we were playing a contender. We were playing a team who had lost their last 22 games FFS. Cairns aint the problem.
You make me laugh...you just disregard the point i am trying to make a simple FACT that if we play that game in Melbourne we win.The fact we could not beat the winless Suns strengthens my point that we play our home games in Melbourne!
