Yesterday the world lost a true pioneer. Someone who proved international players can play elite football, and do so with brilliance, but also be a mentor to many young kids at risk and spearheading the revival of his beloved football club, all while battling cancer. RIP Jim Stynes

Re: Gentleman Jim

RIP Jimmy

Was lucky enough to meet Jim a couple of times, once I participated in a week at Reach when I was a kid and he also came to our school and really tugged at the heartstrings of everyone in the room.

Magnificently articulate & well spoken, but still a blokey bloke underneath. Completely adaptable in any situation, and everything he did in his life he did with the tagline "inspirational" alongside it.

Rest safely champion :thumbsu:

I was heartbroken when I learned of Jim Stynes' passing. I had the great pleasure of meeting him in the mid 90s when he came to the school I taught at to speak about Reach.

Actually I was set up by our Phys Ed teacher who had Jim visit my Year 8 classroom while I was teaching. Jim knocked at the classroom door and when I looked at him through the window, I didn't know what to expect. I opened the door and let him in. He immediately asked if I was the teacher that was going around the school badmouthing the Demons. (Of course, I was guilty as charged.) The look on his face made me cringe, but then a huge smile enveloped his face and he began laughing. Yes, he indeed got me.

I later talked to him about his Reach program after he spoke to the students. I have never met a more affable person. That day was one of the highlights in my teaching career. Jim Stynes had a fan forever.

May the Angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs greet you at your arrival and lead you into the holy city, Jerusalem.

Rest in eternal peace, Jim.

Billy Brownless was right when he was on the Rush Hour in Adelaide - Jimmy touched everyone regardless if you met him or you wish you had of

I can't get there, does anyone know if there's a stream for any of the major TV networks around?

(I know the streaming rules, but this is FTA and I'm happy to watch a stream with adverts on it, more that I just have no idea whether they even exist)

EDIT: Never mind - if you want to watch it through your PC, head to http://www.abc.net.au/news/abcnews24/ - streams ABC News 24 live, and thus you'll be able to watch the funeral. Starting at 11.
