Hawks are playing in a way that no one has worked out how to defend yet. They'll probably need to get through a couple of away finals, but they're a real chance I think.
Yes, the likely fairytale rise to the Premiership with Vic media paving the way with its 'Hawks are the one to watch' narrative.

Probably, with Vic media directing focus to Houstons suspension as the deciding factor to gloss over a heavily lopsided umpiring display.

You just know it.
Port don't need umpires to lose the game, they are quite capable on their own, you could say they have practiced it over the years.
Anyone who gets them in the prelim will feel they have won the lottery.

You just know it.

Probably because weve never had the team to go further before.
I mean, thats the Vic narrative to save one of their owns job yeah?

A bit like the big big sound, orange tsunami hype last year?

I'm actually surprised the media haven't been talking the Hawks up as a premiership contender. Cats flogged them straight after the bye, but that's the only time they've been outplayed since round 8 - their other 2 losses were in games they were well ahead at 3 quarter time and tried slow down tactics to hold the lead. And they haven't just been winning, they've been flogging teams.

I'll be barracking for everyone other than Carlton against them, but they're looking seriously dangerous.

Laughable.

Port going out in straight sets in 2023 was the umpires fault.

The Dogs mauling them by 70 in 2021 was the umpires fault.

Tigers won having 6 more scoring shots, and Port only having 5 more frees was again the umpires fault in 2020.

All teams would be hoping to get Port in a final.

Um what? A home Grand Final location is pretty common with most competitions that have Grand Finals.
Which Australian Football competitions play GFs at home venue?

WAFL doesnt
SANFL doesnt
VFL doesnt
Local Victorian leagues dont

And the AFL never has.

They all host the GF at a pre-determined venue.

Most soccer cups - pre-determined venue.

WAFL is a legit neutral ground though. No one plays at Optus during the regular season. Only the most ridiculous Victorian would try and claim a Collingwood vs West Coast Grand Final is at a neutral ground.

The point is that every single Australian Football GF is at a predetermined venue, decided by the league well in advance, primarily for commercial reasons.

And yes, it is the same with the big football (soccer) cup finals, where the Final is normally hosted in the biggest venue in the largest city.

But yet you have nuffie fans talking aboit "earning the right" to a home GF. That has never ever been the case in any Australian Football GFs in any league.

What about all the nuffie fans claiming the MCG is a neutral Grand Final venue?

Not just here but in the (Vic) media too.

Those other grounds (Optus, Wembley, whatever) are legit neutral with no real advantage (or BIAS) unlike the situation in this amateur bush league.

Blame AFL House policy of ground rationalisation.

Gives non-Melbourne team an advantage during H&A, trade off being a small chance of a disadvantage for GF.

Home ground advantage is home ground advantage. End of story. Richmond didn’t lose a game at the G in 2017. Aside from Brisbane between 01-03, who were an unusual side, the statistics towards vic v non vics in GF is very skewed.

Bit like playing Collingwood in a GF really. I mean you arse the odd one but you really are the Glenelg of the VFL.
