Autopsy Vs GC Franchise - Goldys 300th.

We’re not that far off. If we get fitter, stronger, more skilful, more determined, more disciplined, with better players and a better game plan we could win 4 games.
True.

If we recruit 30 more AFL standard players we will get better ;)

One of our Captains is borderline AFL standard which speaks volumes.

What a game.

Pros -
  • Derwayne and Healy had to sit through every second of this excrable rubbish and make it sound interesting
  • Scott proved beyond all doubt that you cannot have - statistically speaking - a negative disposal efficiency
  • McKay may have stayed awake the entire game. Maybe.
  • Larkey is moving into the elite bracket of athletes who are able to jump in the air waving one hand, then fall on their arse waving two hands 100% of the time, even when there's no one there. Try it, it's not as easy as it looks.
  • Goldy had a really nice video on the North website about him this week.

Negatives -

- None come to mind. Anything we can do to support the AFL's vision for a thriving franchise team that can win even when playing poorly is a blessing and an honour. Even if Gold Coast only get one extra member this week, it was worth it. Praise be Gil and the Administration.

Worst performance for the year thus far. Never even looked like winning since the second the siren went.

Hope that it's just fatigue.

Melbourne --> Perth --> Tasmania --> Adelaide --> Gold Coast

That's a fair bit of travel.
That is a pretty ****ed amount of travel tbh.

So has the game plan changed from the first 2-3 rounds or is it the cattle that's changed?

Wonder what would happen if we went back to the Rd.1 team?

Game plan has been worked out imo. Spread wide and chip mark 15-20m intervals all the way to a f50 entry, if we do rebound the opposition press up high because we are likely to be forced into turnover etc. Something has been terribly wrong with our defensive structures the last few weeks too allowing way too many uncontested marks but hard to pin down exactly what is causing it on the broadcast. Potentially fatigue factors into this too.

If we don't comprehensively win in the middle we look quite lost atm though which is alarming

Sssh don't tell more people

Utterly wretched - thoroughly dismantled by a mediocre opponent playing mediocre football. Last week, giving the benefit of the doubt, looked more like the kind of tactical teething problems you sometimes have to cop with a new coach and a developing side - tonight confirmed it's much worse than that, and showed we can be just as insipid, feeble and disinterested as last year, the year before, the year before that...

It's genuinely hard to come up with players who warrant a pass mark for today's performance. Stephenson was good again - Ziebell showed intent - ......?

Trouble is, no-one's got a simple solution. We've (quite rationally) stocked up on middling placeholder types in the hope that they, together with aging but serviceable veterans, can at least play a role in the gameplan while we wait for younger developing players to make a sound enough case for selection - games like this show that that's not really working as well as it should. But to instead "play the kids" for the sheer sake of it feeling more like something's in development, wear another year in the cellar, pick up more "top end talent" to join the thirteen first-round picks already on our list, and pretend that this time, finally, it'll give us more than hollow fantasies of competence? Is that really - really - any better?!

Despite the glaring weaknesses, I don't think you have to overrate our list to think that the 23 we fielded are, individually, better than this: Bailey Scott was third in the Syd last year, LDU's form late last season and early this year was excellent, with only a couple of notable exceptions we basically have a fully fit list to pick from - so why is Scott so out of touch, LDU's influence so limited, etc.?

There's no excuse for producing such an indifferent display today, and given we haven't varied the starting side too much yet and this is where that's left us, I'd be keen to see a fair few changes made for the Melbourne match. Not that I have any confidence it'll matter - barely feels like there's any point being invested in this side lately...

It's been a tough draw, but that's a very generous out for what we saw today.

Yeah, we certainly seem to get smashed without Jye at the contest.

Honestly, I have been watching the last 2-3 games wondering wtaf the instructions are. It looks shambolic.

I wonder if coaching is mostly just luck and being in the right place at the right time....

Just not sure what this club stands for anymore.

Unable to see a positive game plan.

Unable to see an offensive structure.

It's getting tough to care anymore.

I cant see any pride or passion in the team, just ineffective procedure and going through the motions.

It hurts after 43 years of bleeding blue and white to see what this club is at the moment.

Not even expecting a victory right now, just hoping to see some level of care or passion from this squad.

Kills me to associate things like weak, panicked, unintelligent, care free, bruise free, giving up, uncommitted to anyone wearing our colours.

Its a sad day when we the faithful start to reflect what we see on field in complacency and disinterest.
Well put SR.

Even for a bloke playing his 300th for the club we can't even get out of the blocks with any passion - any real desire to make a statement that we are here to play and beating us will be difficult.

Rather its just - as you say - we go through the motions - same mistakes week after week - same players picked week after week - and somehow we think 'this week will be different'.

The reality is that it has been this way for a long time now and each year this happens its gets harder and harder to turn it around.

We are in a huge hole right now - we are playing a mature team in the hope of managing worst case outcomes - but that is doing us no good.

The next month or so looks very ugly for us and there isn't alot we can do about it - we reap what we sow and we haven't sowed much in the last 5-6 years.

I argued with posters this week over selection of older players. I was assured a winning culture was more important than gifting kids game. Spare me.
WTF?
Our oldest players were the highest ranked out there today!

Can't blame them for our performance.
The kids who have been given games aren't delivering yet; Taylor, Powell, Phillips, Scott all poor today.

It’s how the AFL always do it now give us a Good Friday game to appease us . Then make us travel everywhere to get no momentum. We should be getting a fairer draw travel wise currently as we are so poor it does hinder a developing team greatly imo .Once we become competitive and better won’t matter so much, but it won’t change we will still travel . Wonder how much the golden clubs have travelled early during the last decade being good or shit. Probably sweet **** all

Also lol at "Franchise" in the thread title.
These campaigners have their existence questioned more so than us these days and yet they own us.
Ricky said as much on twitter. The only club they have a positive win loss ratio against is us. 10-8 their way.

We are the joke

11 Wins and 54 Floggings since Brad left the list a complete basket case.

He left us 4 years ago. At some point (and it's probably already passed) we need to stop blaming him for the current state of our list. We've had 4 drafts and trade periods since then to improve our list.
Hard questions need to be asked our player development, because it's been piss poor in recent years.

Wouldn't go that far but McKay back has probably disrupted the balance a little. Also a Hall/Sheezel/Ziebell/LMac combo doesn't work
