This is a sensitive area for some. With that in mind, I'm going to remind a few posters a few things:
  • personal attacks are against forum rules. From this point, any attacks that are directed at another poster will be treated with a warning, then infractions and threadbans if it continues.
  • the spread of misinformation is also against the rules. This is taken very seriously by moderation, and you will be asked to support your opinion from time to time. If you cannot satisfy this, you will be provided an opportunity to retract your post; if you do not, you will receive an infraction and a threadban on that basis.
This is a forum for adults, and I'd appreciate you all treating each other appropriately.

I occasionally pop onto Medvedev"s telegram channel and it is clear negotiating with these homicidal maniacs is not possible. He openly declares Ukraine must subjugate to Russia and still rambles on about the long discredited Nazi nonsense.

Post war I don't see how relations between Ukraine & Russia are possible no matter what the result is with Putin/Lavrov/Medvedev in charge.
Any truce now with Russia in control of parts of Donbas will only result in another war in a few years. Even if Putin is gone.

Putin did it. Of course he did. He sees Musk as a useful idiot, he is used to flattering Western oligarchs for this purpose, and he can both use Musk as a means of sending his messages, and someone who may be useful if he takes actions that are pro-russian, whether with Starlink or in the event he completes a takeover of Twitter. He would definitely see him as useful enough to take a meeting and Musk is narcissistic enough to want that meeting

Are we calling western billionaires oligarchs now?

Musk is a pretty cluey guy. I reckon he could have worked out the water situation without Putin explaining it

You’re kidding yourself if you think the oligarchy only applies to Russia. Grow up

Musk just repeats Russian talking points fed by Putin. The tweet referring “Khrushchev’s mistake” is a straight up domestic Russian political talking point that no westerner would repeat.

He’s just being a campaigner. He’s rich so he’s using his power to do what he wants.

He’s a Blofeld and not even remotely as interesting

Putin uses arguments going back 500 years about the Russian empire being the true owners of Ukraine. It's a wonder that Musk also doesn't apply this train of thought to Crimea which was originally inhabitated by the Ottoman empire (Turkey successor state) and then invaded by Russia in the late 1700s. According to Putin's logic Turkey is actually the true owner of Crimea.

Staggering incompetency from Putin on the water situation. Invades Crimea and after 8 years is still reliant on Ukraine proper for water.

You would think since 2014 that Adolf Putin would have invested significantly in desalinisation plants in Crimea and/or water pipelines running to/from Rostov area water resources ** if *** he is serious about occupying Crimea long term. He absolutely can do this as the Duma approves pretty much whatever he wants (look how quickly the Kerch bridge project was started).

Instead his only investment in Crimea has been a bridge to enable his military occupation of Crimea to continue. Just another example that his interests are only military. No shits are given by Putin about the people of Crimea at all, they are just a pawn to be used to try and force Ukraine to once again become his puppet state.

Didnt the Greeks settle it over 2000 years ago while russia only had hunter gatherers in it? Better give it all back to the Greeks.

I think we should acknowledge and support Putin and Xis desire for historical ownership of land. I am sure the leader of Mongolia that would own China and Russia as a result would be much better to deal with than the two psychopaths currently in charge
