Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

“We assess that the occurrence of casualties among North Korean officers and soldiers in Ukraine is highly likely, considering various circumstances,” Kim said, adding that Seoul expects Pyongyang to send more troops to support Russia’s war effort.

Doesn’t seem Russia are letting this go. Unfortunately for Ukrainians there are many years ahead of fighting. Unless Trump gets in and pulls the pin on their funding.

The South Koreans should be looking at this and start giving Ukraine aid directly (rather than giving to other countries to replace what they give to Ukraine). If they can kill North Koreans and destroy North Korean equipment (sent to Russia) outside the Korean peninsula that's a positive for their own security situation.

From a June 27, 2024 article relating to the pact between russia and North Korea
Seoul —
South Korea said Thursday that it would consider sending arms to Ukraine, a major policy change that was suggested after Russia and North Korea rattled the region and beyond by signing a pact to come to each other's defense in the event of war.

From another June article
The weapons that Seoul could potentially send to Ukraine include 155 mm artillery shells or air defense systems, government sources told Yonhap.

wtf is this? should be nuked?
Have you been there? (I'm talking about Qld not about Vic.) Anyway relax, its a joke.

On the other hand Ipswich in Qld is right next to Amberly AFB which regularly houses US B2 stealth bombers these days. They are capable of carrying multiple high yield thermonuclear weapons so I reckon its now a nuclear target (if it wasn't beforehand) given there wouldn't be too many airfields capable of housing those planes in the Southern Hemisphere.

Ok a joke, makes more sense.
And yes fair point that the afb would be (a secondary) target given what you say.

That won't stop the fighting. It'll just reduce the evenness of the fighting.

And even in that event when the Russians ultimately run over the entire nation of Ukraine, there'll be people and shit getting blown up for eternity.
