Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

23 killed in a runway landing accident in South Korea

There is no one else to blame but Putin.

His unprovoked war in Ukraine has created an electromagnetic discharge in the atmosphere which is now interfering with all international aviation.
More convincing than your arguments about how everything is America's fault.

Filkina was shot by more than 15 Russian bullets while riding a bicycle. Filkina was an employee of the Ukrainian hypermarket chain Epicenter.

...more than 1,400 civilians were killed in Bucha District, including 637 in the city of Bucha, many of whom had gunshot wounds. The district figure included 37 children who were murdered by Russian forces.

Give it time, but I'm sure Russian apologists on here will defend Russia's actions on this.

“Certainly the Syrian people and the Ukrainian people have the same experience and the same suffering that we endured over 14 years,” he [foreign minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shibani] added, drawing parallels between Syria’s 2011-2024 war and Russia’s seizure of Ukrainian territory in 2014 and culminating in its full-scale 2022 invasion.

“We believe that from a strategic point of view, the removal of Russia’s presence in Syria will contribute to the stability of not only the Syrian state but the entire Middle East and Africa,” the Ukrainian foreign minister added.

However, in an interview with Al-Arabiya TV on Sunday, Sharaa acknowledged the “deep strategic interests” between Syria and Russia.
“All Syria’s arms are of Russian origin, and many power plants are managed by Russian experts... We do not want Russia to leave Syria in the way that some wish,” he said.

Confirms that The war in the Middle East is totally connected with the war in Ukraine.

No surprises here that the NATO proxies in the Ukrainian government and the NATO proxies now in control in Syria should look for a "connection".
Relations ("connection") between Syria and Ukraine have existed since 1992, except for a two-year period from 2022 to 2024 when they were severed following Syria's recognition of the Russian-occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Relations were reestablished after the collapse of the Assad regime.

How many times can one poster post Russian falsehoods about Ukraine?

Of course, the idea that there is Nazi influence in Ukraine is simply Russian propaganda...🤣🤣

Apparently, some of the New Year celebrations in Ukraine included the celebration of Stepan Bandera's birthday and the glorification of his Nazi legacy:

I forgot where I heard it, but a way Russia are trying to entice people to sign up to the army now is to wipe off their entire debt loan they may have.

It is not the government paying off the debt, but more the government saying to the bank " just wipe it off as bad debt. It's not my problem, you deal with it".

It's almost like Putin is trying to crash their financial system.

Edit: found where I heard it. About the 10 minute mark on the video. Also I was mistaken. It's only for the equivalent of $95,000 US dollars of debt. Not the entire debt.

Putin's also propping up the ruble with their national wealth fund.

Wasting gold reserves to fund military purchases.

Defense expenditure nearly at 40% of GDP.

Sneaky! Allegedly Ukraine recently shot down a Russian helicopter with a SAM launched from a USV. First time a drone boat has shot down any sort of aircraft. The Ukrainian USV have caused all sorts of mischief for the Russian Navy. An effective response by the Russians has been the use of helicopters and light aircraft to destroy the USV. Arming the USV with SAMs changes the balance yet again.

Meanwhile all the Russian military can do is shoot down civilian airliners.
