Europe War in Ukraine - Thread 4 - thread rules updated

Remove this Banner Ad

This is the thread for discussing the War in Ukraine. Should you want to discuss the geopolitics, the history, or an interesting tangent, head over here:

If a post isn't directly concerning the events of the war or starts to derail the thread, report the post to us and we'll move it over there.

Seeing as multiple people seem to have forgotten, abuse is against the rules of BF. Continuous, page long attacks directed at a single poster in this thread will result in threadbans for a week from this point; doing so again once you have returned will make the bans permanent and will be escalated to infractions.

This thread still has misinformation rules, and occasionally you will be asked to demonstrate a claim you have made by moderation. If you cannot, you will be offered the opportunity to amend the post to reflect that it's opinion, to remove the post, or you will be threadbanned and infracted for sharing misinformation.

Addendum: from this point, use of any variant of the word 'orc' to describe combatants, politicians or russians in general will be deleted and the poster will receive a warning. If the behaviour continues, it will be escalated. Consider this fair warning.

Finally: If I see the word Nazi or Hitler being flung around, there had better have a good faith basis as to how it's applicable to the Russian invasion - as in, video/photographic evidence of POW camps designed to remove another ethnic group - or to the current Ukrainian army. If this does not occur, you will be threadbanned for posting off topic

This is a sensitive area, and I understand that this makes for fairly incensed conversation sometimes. This does not mean the rules do not apply, whether to a poster positing a Pro-Ukraine stance or a poster positing an alternative view.

Behave, people.

Not sure how legit though
Looks about twice as large as most estimates. Filing it under "F" for fiction.
Those NK troops certainly were not a fiction despite the claims of some posters. Article in the Diplomat talks about them. Cannon fodder. No training for deployment in Ukraine. 11 years conscription. FMD.

Ukraine's existence could be threatened if “serious” peace talks do not begin by the summer, the country’s intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov said during a closed meeting in the parliament, NV’s sister publication Ukrainska Pravda wrote on Jan.27, citing an anonymous participant

How? Whats the pathway? Ukraine is in free fall and will be carved up its neighbours

Interesting theory considering Russia is falling apart. The ruble is worthless. Putin has turned Russia into a disgraced parish state, rapidly heading in the same direction as Nazi Germany.

So much so that Putin has resorted to doing deals with Iran & North Korea. Something unimaginable prior to his fascist empirical invasion of Ukraine.

In every metric Russia is losing apart from the military battle where it struggles to win much despite a 5-1 numerical advantage.

So Tigran Keosyan, the husband of that RT news Russian troll Margarita Simonyan is in a coma in hospital clinically dead. He himself was a propaganda piece of sh!t too who said that Russia should nuke Ukraine. Seems the karma bus hit him first!
He's not sick. He's just conducting a special hospital operation.

Debris from a Russian Drone in Kyiv demolished Yanukovich's retro car collection. [Novaya Gazeta Facebook page] (photos included)

In the Kiev region, debris of a Russian drone destroyed Yanukovich's car collection
The head of the Kiev Regional Administration Nikolay Kalashnik reported that in the Kiev region the museum of retro cars was affected due to the fall of a drone debris. According to him, a fire broke out in the hangar on an area of 600 square meters. As a result, nine cars were destroyed, another 27 were damaged.
The head of the regional administration did not specify which retrocar museum is in question. At the same time, judging by the photos published by Kalashnik, the exhibition of cars from the garage of the ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich, which is located in Mezhigorye - the former residence of the leader of the country, has been damaged.

Yanukovych should put an insurance claim against Putin.

An American general or retired American general said sometime before Christmas that he estimated the Russian losses then of around 3/4 million, so possibly 840K might seem a bit high, but the Russian world war 1 tactics of keep sending men forward for small gains is suicide.

This marks the largest transfer of military equipment from Israel to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The missiles were previously stored in-country by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) after they decommissioned their Patriot air defense systems last year.

While Ukraine had requested access to Israel’s decommissioned Patriot missile systems for months, Tel Aviv was initially reluctant to engage in discussions about the transfer, fearing that any direct involvement in arming Ukraine could provoke retaliatory actions from Moscow.

The diplomatic deadlock reportedly broke in late September 2024, when Netanyahu finally approved the move. According to sources cited by Axios, the shift in policy was influenced by Netanyahu’s desire to secure a favor from Kyiv – specifically, Ukraine’s approval for ultra-Orthodox Jewish pilgrims to visit Uman, a city in central Ukraine that hosts an annual religious pilgrimage to the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov.
Ukrainian officials, however, refused to discuss the pilgrimage until Netanyahu agreed to release the Patriot interceptors.

The Israeli government has consistently framed the move as a logistical handover
[to the US] rather than an arms transfer to Kyiv, in an attempt to avoid further straining ties with Moscow.

“67 Croatian mine clearance systems have already been delivered to Ukraine, and last year, the production of these vehicles and their components started in Ukraine,” the Ukrainian Prime Minister reported.

Shmyhal
[Prime Minister of Ukraine] also thanked the Croatian government for the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainian defenders.
He also noted that Ukraine is interested in using Croatian experience in rehabilitation, social integration, and psychological support for veterans.

Last November, the Croatian Ministry of Defense announced the transfer to Ukraine of a batch of 30 M-84 tanks and 30 M-80 infantry fighting vehicles, along with related spare parts and ammunition, estimated at almost €145 million.

For the first time, M-84 tanks will be transferred to Ukraine. These tanks are a localized version of the exported Soviet T-72M1 tanks manufactured under license in Yugoslavia.

While Ukraine had requested access to Israel’s decommissioned Patriot missile systems for months, Tel Aviv was initially reluctant to engage in discussions about the transfer, fearing that any direct involvement in arming Ukraine could provoke retaliatory actions from Moscow.
And probably lose votes with all the right wing Russians who moved to Israel.

Single Ukranian tank takes out an entire vatnik column:

There was a pro-Russian dude on the NMFC board who would go on and on about how bad the Leopard tanks supposedly were, and how they pale in comparison to the mighty Russian tanks.

This video made me think of him.

Now the Russian branch of the International Committee for the Protection of Human Rights has suggested Mr Jenkins could be exchanged for the married Korolev couple from Brisbane, along with Sydney fugitive Simion Boikov, known as "Aussie Cossack".
Had to laugh when I read “the Russian branch of the International Committee for the Protection of Human Rights”.

Russia's embassy has accused Australia of quietly authorising former ADF members to join Ukraine's armed forces.
