Toast Warren Tredrea - Elected to the Port Board (Football discussion only)

i dont know what people expect from tredrea, the moment he joins the board his hands are tied and he cant say anything and if he did say something then he will be howled down as breaking footy policy. The only benefit might be he has more intricate knowledge of the inside happennings of the club but i get the feeling that any intricate or important information is kept away from the other board members under the guise of privacy with only the president and ceo knowing. You see this happen a million times at corporate level, the boards are really just YES men brought to be just that. They have no other option as they are railroaded the moment they get there.

For example i doubt the current board members have any knowledge of the fine details of Hinkley's contract except to the dollar figures, and term length. All the real details of his contract would be known to only about 3 people as it would all be hidden under privacy clauses. They would present it to the board in the simplest of terms and they would vote on it with the understanding any objection would means your dismissal from the board in the near future.

Personally i think treadrea should read the tea leaves and stay out of it until this Hinkley Cult implodes, that way he can say what he wants and present a case for the future without the stain of Hinkley, Koch or Davies. He would be much better doing that.
What? So sit back and let things remain the same, Warren Tredrea should be fully applauded for having the balls to stand for the board and try and do something about the situation.

Kevin Monteleone had his post on Port Adelaide True Believers Facebook site pulled down earlier today. See it at post

That doesn't happen unless there is pressure from the club - as has happened on this forum on the rare occasion.

But Kevin has hit back and posted on his own Facebook page. See below, but first I will post Barry Curtin's reply and great response to his dopey post.

I don't know if a bomb has been dropped or the bush fire has just got out of control but the club has lost control of the narrative.

For those who don't know Kevin, he was the part owner of La Vita restaurant on Grange Road, then sold out his share but stayed on as manager. All the Port players for over a decade have eaten and socialised there, as do other sporting teams based in the west inc the crows, Adelaide United and 36ers. Kevin has 1,800 face book friends not to mention the influential ones tied up with Port, but not on Facebook. Kevin left La Vita mid 2023.

The Black and White Noise has had his/her say on the Rucci artcle. They are spot on.

Go and give them a like or leave a comment if that's all you can do.

The Propaganda from Port

George Orwell said that “It is the same in all wars; the soldiers do the fighting, the journalists do the shouting, and no true patriot ever gets near a front-line trench, except on the briefest of propaganda tours”.

And lately it seems the shouts coming out from the Port Adelaide Football Club employees are becoming louder and more desperate. And reminiscent of the former Iraqi Information Minister known as “Comical Ali”, they keep yelling “nothing to see here”.

“Nothing to see” despite Port being one of only 5 clubs to have not made a grand final since 2007.

“Nothing to see” despite Port having only won 2 finals in the last 9 years.

“Nothing to see” despite Port going out in straight sets in 2023 with the “best list” in coach Ken Hinkley’s time.

“Nothing to see” despite a significant portion of the membership base being clearly disenfranchised.

“Nothing to see” despite club employees referring to members as “white noise”, “outsiders”, “idiots” and “Hinkley haters”.

For a proud club like Port Adelaide the results of the last decade have been quite simply not good enough. Certainly not when compared to previous SANFL glories in the straw man arguments of chief club propagandists like Michaelangelo Rucci and Kane Cornes. And more importantly they simply aren’t good enough when benchmarked against even the top half of the AFL field. Especially if you “exist to win premierships”, not revel in minor round glories as the “true patriot” President David Koch is prone to do. No matter how much these chief propagandists cry about “myth and misrepresentation” the numbers just don’t add up for the longest serving one club coach without premiership success.

The fact that those ‘true patriots” and “journalists” employed by and connected to the club see it as their job to convert the club members to their way of thinking, rather than listening to the true custodians of the club, says it all about the need for a truly disrupting influence on the board. This despite the club constitution clearly stating that “The Company will maintain the Club for the benefit of the Club Members.”

A cynic would say that club employees talking down the chances of incumbent member elect board member Kathy Nagel is designed to split the vote of the two “Hinkley hating” former premiership stars, who might have expectations of success, and thus allow the status quo to continue. It does seem that the current regime always thinks that the very best people for the job are those who have already been “educated” into the ways of the current board.

A club employee suggesting that current, signed up, 2024 members would not be allowed to vote in the upcoming elections despite the constitution clearly stating that “All Club Members have a right to vote in relation to the election of Club nominees for appointment by the AFL to the Board” does not help with the members disconnection either. I wonder what newly badged member and 5AA media personality Stephen Rowe will think when someone reads him the club constitution.

The same employee states that Tredrea “has told the club he will not engage in any media interviews before the election” without referencing the fact that candidates have been specifically told not to by the current regime.
So if you think there is “nothing to see here” then vote for Nagle or Abernethy.

If you think there is trouble brewing behind the smoke and mirrors that needs disrupting, then Tredrea is your man.

It’s ridiculous how scared the club is of Tredrea. They’re making such dumb decisions to stop him getting on the board.

So true.

And they are completely oblivious to it. They think they can be the same sort of control freaks as the AFL. They can't!

This is why we can't win a premiership. It not just that we aren't tough enough, its also that we aren't smart enough.

What did Alastair Clarkson say after the Hawks lost the 2011 PF to collingwood by 3 points after Luke Ball kicked the match winning goal with a minute or two to go? "we weren't tough enough, hard enough for long enough."

For Port add, not smart enough. Clarko added to that sentence with a - We learnt a pretty fatal lesson as a result of it. Some at Alberton are going to learn a fatal lesson for not being smart enough.

I can’t see tredders missing out, should win in a landslide. Loved abba as a player but he’s had his time And the fact Koch wants him is enough for me to not want him.

of all my Port mates (90% are members) I don’t know anyone who is against tredrea, all agree with his views and want him on the board to shake the place up. Everyone to a man is sick of hinkley and Koch and wants change.

its why I’m puzzled as to where the pro koch and hinkley supporters are, apart from Cornes, whately and rucci And a few pelicans on here.
They’re out there but whether there enough of them prepared to vote for Abernathy or nagle is another matter.

They’re currently taking their cues from a football committee headed by Dom “duhhh stick fat side by side” Cassisi.

Warren could rock up to his first meeting in a crop top sipping bubble tea and instantly be the most credible football person in the room.
What do we actually know about this football committee. For example who is on this committee and what do they do.

It’s not just that they aren’t smart enough, they simply don’t care.

Like Koch said last year, we aren’t the club of “we exist to win premierships”, it’s just about wins and losses.

Winning more games than we lose and making a profit is what matters, last year was a success to him. He doesn’t think we need to win a flag to be successful.

Koch would know deep down he can’t control Tredrea, can bully him or tell him what to do.

If Treadea gets on the board, all of a sudden Koch will have someone to hold him accountable, question him and challenge him. Koch will no longer just do what he wants and tell the rest of the board what to do.

The fact that the club is going to these lengths to try to keep Tredders out is proof enough that he absolutely needs to be in.

He clearly makes them feel uncomfortable, which is precisely why he needs to be on the board. They've been comfortable in their mediocrity for long enough, and it's time for change.

Ask yourself, what is it they are so afraid of with Tredrea?

If you are the best in the land, why the very obvious fear?
It's obvious - they fear being proven wrong, and Tredrea is perfectly capable of achieving that, which is why they're desperately trying anything to stop him.

Need to remember this is only part one by the club.

Still have KFC , Gerard and Caro to come.

For my bingo card and If I had to have a guess it would be the kane corner will run with you need more than football to he on a board you have to work with people. Gerard will run with unrealistic expectations and Caro will be see these examples of what fractured boards do to a club.

David, Matthew it doesn't have to be this way.

You have choices and options. Try listening.

I reckon Burgoyne left because Cassisi had already been shoehorned in by a player vote.

There were mumblings about an incident at a private function between Peter and Shaun that was the catalyst for him to leave but his decision coinciding with the captain vote/choice (which had a bit of a whiff of 'board interference' about it) and the downward spiral we were in as a club, was a much more likely reason.

All power to him for picking the path that gave him the most bang for buck without having to do too much for it.
Doesn't change my opinion of him though.

They recommended a contract extension for Ken Hinkley before the conclusion of the season so that tells me enough about what value they serve.

The hilarious thing is, circa 2022 there was a contrary conclusion but good ol’ Davey Pursestrings rejected it.
