"It's hard to know whether to take the Pies seriously on this one. They sounded like a headmaster scolding a naughty schoolboy – the Lions – in their statement.

The Lions, though, weren't worried about copping a 'detention'."

It seems that there is a large consensus of skepticism about the validity of the Pies' pseudo-deadline.

And the man of the hour was about a 29 I think?

Who the hell knows.

28 with our second selection after Sidebottom at 11.

Interestingly, Redden was 25.

I haven't commented on this for a while, and the reason being that the insults being thrown around is just plain stupidity from parties on both sides. It's like being back in school he started it no you started it. Anyway I'm hoping a deal can still get done and the childish comments can just stop. I don't want beams to be playing for us next year as he clearly doesn't want to be there. I think 5 and 25 is reasonable so here's hoping that the clubs can agree in the end. O and Christensen is no where near a fringe player he is a gun. Will leave it at that cheers.

Agree, Caz. Completely counter-productive rubbish in both directions ... it's just football.

The hold-up seems to be that the Lions want both Bundy & Beams, but don't quite have the capital to get it done just with draft picks.
I do wonder if the Cats would consider Crisp + 30. They're obviously losing a mid-fwd...

I'm pretty sure Peter Schwab said on SEN this afternoon that the pick 21 to GFC for Christensen is as good as done. Just pending medicals.

Possibly right, I don't know, it's just my gut feeling about it. The 'deadline' is BS, if Brisbane rocked up with a last minute offer we liked, we wouldn't turn them away because they missed 'the deadline'.

Expecting lots of rumours next week about it all, at any rate lol.
I agree if they give us an offer we like it will be done but that offer isn't gonna come. We want JA, they want to keep him.. i doubt that'll change. I was unsure before the deadline but now I'm convinced we won't trade with them unless its exactly what we want, there must be some bad blood between our management and theirs lol

Yep it certainly is, and eventually all clubs will need to rebuild let's face it. Ours has come a bit quicker than some might of thought but at the end of the day hopefully the young kids will be good after 3 seasons or so and then you challenge again. It's how the cycle works.

Yeah the deadline was really a threat they couldn't follow through on.

Sif they wouldn't take our calls just because their arbitrary deadline has passed. It gave their fans something to puff up about but not much more.

Ask any neutral fan on the polls board about whose list they'd prefer going forward and who has a better chance of making the finals, and I can guarantee you at least 70% would say the Lions.

But there wouldn't be any neutral fans. Either Pies fans... or Pies haters.

Of course we'll still take your calls, but we'll take others too. Hence the rumours today now about GWS & Melbourne readying offers.
There's a good poster that explained the arbitrary deadline on our board (post #11,625) better than I can right now. It's very late!

FWIW I still believe we'll get a deal done with the Lions, but there'll be much more huffing and puffing from all and sundry yet.

The Pies are uncompassionate campaigners. The failure of your (very fair IMO) offer of one very good and one good draft pick to be accepted is based on their big 4 delusion that players from smaller interstate clubs would just be falling over themselves to play for the so-called 'big clubs'. It's the same delusion we're having to deal with in the Ryder trade. Maybe the issue isn't that Brisbane refuse to deal their players, but that Brisbane's players don't want to go to a club on the slide with a playing list in exodus mode? And this is all ignoring the fact that they could turn one of the picks into a player by trading #25 for Greenwood anyway.

I hope you stand firm, Collingwood realise that asking for a club to trade out required star players who don't want to leave for somebody who's already nominated your club for compassionate reasons is unreasonable, and they fold and you get him for your current offer. Alternatively, if they don't, I hope Beams retires and the Collingwood campaigners get nothing for him. They have only themselves to blame for their poisonous culture preventing anybody from wanting to go there.

And well done on getting Christensen. It's good to see that Geelong have some perspective.

The pick 25 we are offering you this year as part of the Beams trade is 'rubbish' pick according to some of your other posters.

I would be shocked to see Beams go to either Melbourne or GWS, or any other team that isn't Brisbane or Collingwood.

In fact, his manager has said it's either Brisbane or bust multiple times and GWS have said Treloar is off the table as well.

Melbourne can offer whatever they want, who wants to go there.

You've been a breath of fresh air Raveneyes

70% of BigFlogger posters would have said that Brisbane had a better chance of playing finals than Collingwood even in 2010/11.

I wouldn't be placing any credence in that.

There's no guarantee we'll get quality again, and we're very attached to Beamer. Hence our angst.

That seems like an extremely uncomfortable place to keep it.

It could just be one of those little toothpick flags. I think you really jumped to conclusions there.
