List Mgmt. We Got Him! Beams Trade Discussion (Not the Hype Thread)

I'm actually really proud of the club not caving in to Collingwood's demands. Christensen for Patful is a good swap for us.

There is a big possibility we will get Wright with Pick 5 (St Kilda - take Petracca, Melb likely to take McCartin and a mid, GWS don't need any more talls and we're Pick 5). Beams is elite, but hopefully we can rise up the ladder and force Pies to take Pick 15 for him next year when he comes out of contract :)

Pick 15 for an a grader who is out of contract and not a free agent and who chooses your club as preferred... I'd honestly be ok with pick 15. It's obviously unders, but if he's uncontested we'll be taking a first rounder for him happily I'd suggest.

I would be shocked to see Beams go to either Melbourne or GWS, or any other team that isn't Brisbane or Collingwood.

In fact, his manager has said it's either Brisbane or bust multiple times and GWS have said Treloar is off the table as well.

Melbourne can offer whatever they want, who wants to go there.

Hypothetically, what if it comes down to either a) Brisbane or b) anywhere but Collingwood?

If he has burned his bridges, and we don't trade with the Lions, would he accept an offer from anywhere else?

I still think we'll get there with Brisbane, but it does provide a little excitement and "what-ifs" to the final 4 days.

Well pals and gals, how confident is everyone that Beams is a Lion in 2015 at this stage? Give me a %.

Right now I'm 60% confident he'll be traded (to us). Nothing to support that, just guts. Which aren't feeling great.

But but we've been told he is off the table to us and we blew it...Oh well,WE are confident of hitting the Jackpot with 5 and we got McStay with 25 last year...luvly stuff.

And we have a winner for Moron Post of the trade period.

Been back five minutes, and already the Port halfwits are puffing their chests out.

"Nobody wants to go there"

Yeah right buddy.

Ryder must be the first half decent player in about a decade who has offered to go to the Powerpuffs, and now you think your crap doesn't stink?

Back on topic...the Lions were given a deadline, and they not only refused to budge, they have been bullying all week with smart arse public statement after smart arse public statement.

It started back in August with Swann's(the idiot who sacked from Carlton for being a fat, lazy, good for nothing) provocative remarks on SEN "we have oodles of cash (you are 10 million in debt idiot) to attract a big name player, like a Beams".

Then your list managers waffle that only pick 5 will be offered at the start of the week.

Then that moron Schwab who was sacked from Hawthorn chimed in with his nonsense.

Then Swann again..."Good luck with trying to keep a disgruntled player" (or words to that effect). Wasn't he supposed to be leaving because of his sick dad? Or did the party line collapse?

Then Leppa goes on an unprofessional, insane and unprovoked attack on Twitter.

All the while, Collingwood maintained a dignified silence.

The statement today spells the end for your administration. Beams will not be coming to you in this trade period. It is also doubtful that you will land him in the next trade period either.

Now the market is open slather, and if Beams truly does want to get away from Collingwood and be with his sick dad, it will be Gold Coast or GWS. If he insists on Brisbane, then he has shown himself up to be after only the money and he lied about his concern over his fathers illness.

In fact, so concerned has Beams been with his dads illness, whilst dad is in Byron Bay, Beamer has spent the entire month with Heater in Melbourne hitting the piss hard. And then he jumps on a plane for eth US for another two weeks.

Six weeks away from daddy...the boy really is concerned, isn't he?

Forget it Brisbane - you induced him to try and break his contract with BS stories, and it backfired on you.

Beams will accede to a trade to GC or GWS by the end of next week as he has shown himself up to be a most ungrateful parasite.

Meanwhile, back at Brisbane the supporters will picket the Gabba to demand answers as to why the unmissable trade was missed.

Hey Leppa - you missed out on a player who wanted to come to your club by your collective utter stupidity. *It really is that easy*

Could you repeat that?

Have you ever watched those shows like "hardcore pawn" where ppl come in reluctantly wanting to sell their previous antiques cause they need the money, or they know it will be better off going to a collector?

Usually the pawn shop people ask the person who has come in; "how much were you going for?"...
To which the person gives a high price.
The pawn dealers come back with an offer that is about a quarter of what the person has asked.

The person looks shocked and immediately refuses... They've had this antique for years! It's a part of the family! They're emotionally attached which, to them, inflates the price.

But to the pawn dealer the antique is an antique. He/she needs to get a good deal out of it. He/she is not emotionally attached so gave maybe a slightly more realistic (yet shocking) price that is actually less than what it is worth.

What end up happening is that the seller makes the hard decision..sell now or sell later? A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush yeah?

Although this analogy or simily has many limitations... To Collingwood, Beams is a success story and a favourite son... We drafted him for unders, and within 6 years he won a premiership, was aa, won a Copland, etc...
We are emotionally attached to him. In our end of season review we commented that we must do anything to keep him long term...... Then he requests a trade.
You are him as worth pick 5 and 25 which is, as I said, realistic but still under valued.
We rate him as a top 5 pick + a top 5 player... Probably unrealistic but that reflects how much we rate him.

There is a lot of hate going on between the parties... But that's just an insight in yo how we're feeling. It ain't easy losing someone who you see as the future of your club and a potential top 3 mid. It's painful. And losing him for a couple of picks makes it harder. Even if it is fair.

How are Lions fans feeling now that the Beams trade seems unlikely? Missing a big opportunity or not too concerned?

Not a troll BTW - genuinely curious.

Whilst also understanding that after our exodus last year and the poor handling of two club servants in Bradshaw & Riska, we're VERY reluctant to give up a player in any exchange, unless they show a willingness to be traded (Patfull).

It just is bad taste to complain about players leaving the club, only to turn around this year and say "Okay, who wants to put their hand up to head to the Pies?"

5 + 21 + 25 should have got the deal done, we got blindsided by Christensen popping up and 21 for him was just to hard to refuse - in the end costing us Beams.

So now it's a waiting game (AGAIN!), until Thursday.

You probably could get a fair idea from reading the thread instead of us having to restate all our thoughts again, but in short like Collingwood we had a fallback position on which we were willing to nor budge, and stuck to it. Good to see.

Pick 5, 25 and Christensen is a pretty decent package to walk out of trade week with. We'll frontload some more contracts and then bank the rest of our cap space and then show up in trade week next year with 110% cap to play with. Whether that is for a free agent or an out-of-contract disgruntled Beams... we'll see.

The Pies are uncompassionate campaigners. The failure of your (very fair IMO) offer of one very good and one good draft pick to be accepted is based on their big 4 delusion that players from smaller interstate clubs would just be falling over themselves to play for the so-called 'big clubs'. It's the same delusion we're having to deal with in the Ryder trade. Maybe the issue isn't that Brisbane refuse to deal their players, but that Brisbane's players don't want to go to a club on the slide with a playing list in exodus mode? And this is all ignoring the fact that they could turn one of the picks into a player by trading #25 for Greenwood anyway.

I hope you stand firm, Collingwood realise that asking for a club to trade out required star players who don't want to leave for somebody who's already nominated your club for compassionate reasons is unreasonable, and they fold and you get him for your current offer. Alternatively, if they don't, I hope Beams retires and the Collingwood campaigners get nothing for him. They have only themselves to blame for their poisonous culture preventing anybody from wanting to go there.

And well done on getting Christensen. It's good to see that Geelong have some perspective.
It's not their fault that this is their fist experience with th go home factor.......

Yeah the Pies' mentality is horrid. So is Essendon's. Less arrogant clubs wouldn't feel so entitled to superstars in return.
But Collingwood play this out in the media: 'Damn, Beamsy wants to leave due to personal circumstances despite his love for Collingwood, but that's okay we'll just get Dangerfield. Wait he DOESN'T want to play for the mighty Pies? We'll have to settle for Hanley then.... or Aish. Wait, none of your players want to come? Screw you Brisbane! We'll just take Treloar.'

Just get a deal done without any fantasies. Geelong did just that today. Realised the situation, saw that if they acted quickly they could settle for a reasonable outcome and will get it when we trade pick 21 to them on Monday. Fortunately for everyone involved, the Cats didn't feel the need to ask for Aish, Hanley, Mayes, the sun or the moon.

Yes,
Did TheBrownDog sponsor Karnezis in 2012 ?
Sorry the correct answer is who gives a f#@k!!!!
Seriously who wins this trade....
.we do.

To be fair, Geelong weren't trading a Steve Johnson. (ie: 2nd best player)

Pick 21 for Christensen was a good outcome for both teams.

To be honest, all I see is Collingwood trolls, Brisbane fans reacting badly, whining, and arguing, which is why I asked to begin with, so thank you for an actual eloquent response regarding the whole situation mate. It sure is an interesting topic - I'd have loved to see Beams up here in Brissy.

Mike Whiting reckons there's a chance that a third club might come into the picture to get the deal done - only time will tell!

Happy we refused to budge. Good player, but hardly worth the asking price. We put a fair deal on the table, but at the end of the day it's just not worth giving up a player like Aish. More than happy to take 5 and 25 to the draft and welcome the addition of Christensen.
GWS seems the logical place to shop him now. They have plenty of those "established players" under 20 like Aish; barely 12 months into a career.
