We made the finals… Changes VS Dockers

West in for VDM
Bruce has to be out we can’t carry him into a final. Either Schache in or Keath/Buku and Darcy plays forward. Naughton can back up ruck if needed.
Wouldn’t hate to see Scott in for Williams either

Geelong is the only team I don't think we can beat this year. From 3-8 there's not much separation. I'd start us favourites against Collingwood, Richmond and Brisbane. 70-30 against Sydney/Melbourne and 60-40 against Freo
I wish I shared your optimism! I’d start us underdogs against every other team at the 8. If we don’t win it hope Freo do.

First of all, Roarky stays in. He played really well yesterday, got to give him credit for that! 3 goals and roamed around the ground nicely.

Out: VDM, Cordy, McComb (sub)
In: West, Keath, Schache

A week off for all our sore bodies will do this team the world of good. Agree with some of the above comments, press the reset button and lets go! Genuinely think we can torch Freo in a finals game.

In 2016 we were in the top 4 for most of the year.
This year we were outside the top 8 for most of the year.

I don't think we're much chance but I'm very happy we defied history to make it. Bevo now the only coach in our history to make a GF then make finals the following year
Yeah this season's team feels much more like 2017 than 2016. All the faces are familiar but we've never really put it together for a length of time.
2016's team was seriously good during the H&A, and was closer to 1st than 8th if i remember correctly

We spent 12 weeks inside the 8 in 2017 before missing out. In 2016 we didn't leave the top 8, and were in the 4 for half of it (but were in 7th for the final 6 rounds, we didn't just topple out at the death like last season).

This year's ladder progression is actually a lot closer to 2019 where, other than the opening 3 weeks, we sat outside the top 8 all year until the 2nd last weekend.

Freo weirdly been a monster away from home this year, only 2 losses (and a draw) outside of WA. Have lost at home to the Saints, Pies, Swans and Dees.

I think $1.43 odds for Freo to win are insulting to them. Great value there. This dogs team should be absolutely rank outsiders. Been flakey all year and every year under bevo we’ve stayed in character. 19 and 20, flashy with promise, but not good enough. 16 and 21, very good team, and good enough to win multiple finals.

This year is the 19 and 20 version I’m sorry to report

We are a different beast when it comes to finals though.

Did you watch them this week? They were fairly crap and have their whole key forward groups under injury clouds

I watched them give us a lesson in professionalism and teamwork two weeks ago. It is extremely rare that a team overcomes a season wide gap in quality like there is between us and them in the AFL finals

Yeah but this year we didn’t play West Coast and North Melbourne twice like Geelong.

Ironically in 2016, Geelong played Essendon twice, after they were penalised. Someone at HQ looks after Geelong.

Bruce offers literally zero at this stage, no way we want him in a final on the hard/fast perth deck hobbling around doing **** all.

Surely we don’t go Cordy on Lobb again FFS, Keath back after a rest, Gards to Lobb now he’s fit, bring in Buku as 3rd tall to help out in the air and swing Darcy forward. Or also happy to keep Darcy back on Lobb and bring Schache in for Bruce, have some flexibility to swing them around if needed or stretch them with the 4 talls if Naughtys struggling to get a mark again.

West is an absolute must in a finals, now he’s coming off no games for 2 weeks though - nice management coaches…

VDM was actually okay yesterday and Roarke was obviously good so keeps his spot - but I don’t have much confidence he can perform against decent opposition, he’s fine against crap but good teams work him out easily.

I didn’t like Hunters game at all, no way would I have him in my bests, but he probably stays.

Doc Keath Buku
Red Gardner Dale
Williams Dunks Hunter
English Bont Macrae
Baz Jamarra West
Darcy Naughty Cody

Libba, Daniel, Adzy, Roarke, VDM sub

JJ fit maybe? In for Roarke if so

I feel like we haven't really lost to teams twice in a season much under Beveridge - does anybody have the stats or care to look?
Considering we only play 5 teams twice in the regular H&A season:

2015 - No team beat us twice
2016 - Geelong beat us twice
2017 - West Coast and GWS beat us twice
2018 - West Coast, Port Adelaide and Melbourne beat us twice
2019 - Collingwood beat us twice
2020 - (only played each team once due to Covid) - lost to St Kilda in the EF after losing to them in the H&A
2021 - No team beat us twice in the H&A but we went 1-3 against Melbourne if you count the GF
2022 - Geelong beat us twice

Not conclusive, but for a side that is regularly in the finals or thereabouts you'd expect not to lose twice very often.

Geelong regularly have our measure. Not that that is anything new.
