We made the finals… Changes VS Dockers

Considering we only play 5 teams twice in the regular H&A season:

2015 - No team beat us twice
2016 - Geelong beat us twice
2017 - West Coast and GWS beat us twice
2018 - West Coast, Port Adelaide and Melbourne beat us twice
2019 - Collingwood beat us twice
2020 - (only played each team once due to Covid) - lost to St Kilda in the EF after losing to them in the H&A
2021 - No team beat us twice in the H&A but we went 1-3 against Melbourne if you count the GF
2022 - Geelong beat us twice

Not conclusive, but for a side that is regularly in the finals or thereabouts you'd expect not to lose twice very often.

Geelong regularly have our measure. Not that that is anything new.

Off to find another reason to convince myself we won't lose by eight goals...

Based on the moves made in the hawks game, i think there's a decent chance we drop Bruce. I think the weeks rest was given for one last game to prove himself on fresh legs. Unfortunately he's needs more rehab and conditioning to get up to speed. Needs to work on that outside of match time. Back for preseason next year

Bruce embarrassed himself. Not his fault - can’t blame him for wanting to play. Just isn’t right.

Very hard to rationalise Schache kicking bags in the ressies week after week and being fully fit versus Bruce who looks like a D Grade Amos player at the moment.

Would have JJ if fit before VDM too on form.

Seems pretty clear Bont and Macrae have been labouring badly, and Daniel is finding his feet.

Hope the break allows them to rest up a bit and come out fresh. Given where we’ve been at times this year, even making a semi final would be an ok result.

Does Johannisen come straight in if fit? VDM was clearly preferred over West for speed and team balance, not form. If we were going to pick West first we would have done so last week, they're very different players. More likely JJ comes in for that role, than West that we maybel didn't feel like we had a position for. With Garcia coming out of the team as well, it's certainly a retooling of team balance.

Other than obvious questions about our talls, I think Williams might be the one at risk to keep his spot if we want to bring in West. With two proper wingers I'm not so sure about Williams' role and position. Even against GWS even though he kicked those two burst goals, was very poor before that in the first half. Wait and see.

West is still > McComb and should be an auto replacement for him. If VDM is injured....AGAIN....then swap him for JJ and McComb for West.

I'm torn on the Bruce selection, he's a big body, but is he giving us enough? Is a big lunk doing not much apart from protecting the young uns and taking a defender better for us than a skilled Schache who has a hot boot right now but cant provide the protection that Bruce can?

I'd love to see McLean in - he could be the wild card

Get a small forward who has the sole job of tackling Freo inside our forward 50.

This player is not to fly for marks just tackle and provide pressure.

Bruce offers literally zero at this stage, no way we want him in a final on the hard/fast perth deck hobbling around doing * all.

Surely we don’t go Cordy on Lobb again FFS, Keath back after a rest, Gards to Lobb now he’s fit, bring in Buku as 3rd tall to help out in the air and swing Darcy forward. Or also happy to keep Darcy back on Lobb and bring Schache in for Bruce, have some flexibility to swing them around if needed or stretch them with the 4 talls if Naughtys struggling to get a mark again.

West is an absolute must in a finals, now he’s coming off no games for 2 weeks though - nice management coaches…

VDM was actually okay yesterday and Roarke was obviously good so keeps his spot - but I don’t have much confidence he can perform against decent opposition, he’s fine against crap but good teams work him out easily.

I didn’t like Hunters game at all, no way would I have him in my bests, but he probably stays.

Funny how Bruce is so polarising.
I have always valued his physical competitiveness compared to what someone like Schache brings.
He's certainly been competitive in the ruck.

Yeah Pies would be my second choice, but Freo has the Bulldog link with Garlic, Mboyd and Bob, and have been in the competition for so long with no success.

That's why most of us didnt want a final against dogs and if not us we want dogs go all the way as we are thankful for the service of the 3 ex dogs.. our club changed as soon as they came..

Definitely his best game for ages, but thats not saying too much considering how poor hes been. Agreed his ability to always be an option has been missed, I just cannot handle his ball use anymore especially when he’s not paired with a fast, attacking winger which unfortunately we don’t have.

He’s possibly up there with the worst offensive ball movement players in the comp, so so slow to make a decision, never takes the game on always mark, stop & prop jog back behind the mark, won’t bite the bullet on any risky kicks and then has attrocious disposal too.

Had to laugh when he took the mark 15m out from goal and his career stats from that spot that popped up on the screen were 2 to the left 2 to the right and none through the middle but credit where it’s due he kicked that one which was important.

Again he has his strengths and it was encouraging he found a little bit of form yesterday but I still wouldn’t have him anywhere near our best and I’d be shipping him off to whoever will take him to free up the 600k in the office season, we need to move past Lachie Hunter on a wing I think, unfortunately as I have always quite liked him
