Do you reckon we'll do any further trading?

That's the only drawback as far as I can see. Pick 39 would have been a useful bargaining chip in upgrading for another second-rounder.

Any chance of Geelong giving us pick 17 for Nicoski + 22/23?
True, I can't see anyone parting with a first rounder without more quality from our end, which we won't offer.

Are Geelong interested in Nicoski? That's a plausible trade, if there is someone we really want at that pick. Otherwise we might keep him.

Has Stokes resigned or are we still looking at him? Haven't been keeping up to date with things over the last few days.

I wonder Gunnar.

We managed to get this trade done at the beginning of the week, so that is a pretty good question.

There could be various other reasons, all three clubs knew what they wanted, were able to strike an equitable bargain (unlike some) or wanted to avoid a debacle like last years trade period so began negotiations early.

Likely Sydney would have wanted to wrap this up as quickly as possible and Brisbane may continue to be active this week, so finalising a trade such as this at the beginning of the trade period now allows them to pursue other players/picks or the chance to watch what unfolds without any pending deals getting in the way.

It's one of the many nuggets you hear at this time of year. Could be bullshit.

I just reckon we've still got a bit of dead wood to trade.

Happy to put Nicoski, Hansen and Spangher on the table, along with pick 55. And either pick 22/23 if there's an upgrade on offer.

I wonder what kind of magic we can work with that.

I think the same but there are probably only so many players the club are willing to offload.

If we could not get an equitable trade for someone like Nicoski I think we will hang on to players like him, Wilkes and Jones and keep them for depth or give them another chance to prove what they can add to the team.

If its bust then no doubt we will delist (if contracts are up) or try to trade them at the end of the year.

I reckon any Spangher trade will likely happen later in the week.

well, the rumours around those players were spangher to carlton and hansen to port and carlton. neither seem likely to move anywhere now.

i guess we will have to wait to see if anything like genuine interest comes up during the rest of trade week.

Is it almost worth keeping a bit of dead wood on our list so we have some delistings-in-waiting for the end of 2010?

Yep I considered that.

Keeping the players could offer a dual purpose.

If we didn't we may stock up with players from later in this draft which might be a bit of a risk.

Does not hurt to retain the players. See what they offer then be able to free up the list space at the end of the season if we cannot get anything for them.

Forget elite fitness. He is THE fittest player in the AFL. Will play most of his games on THE biggest ground in the game. Put him on a HFF and have him lead from our 50 to there 50 then turn around and do it again. Could easily rack up 20 stats 10+ marks and run the HBF ragged
Daniher seems to have similar ideas;
"We've got plans for him to play as a high forward, he can get up and down the ground," Daniher said."

Nice work with that Trade. Look forward to seeing Brad in our colours next season.

according to the article, it sounds like Dalziell is gonna slot right into the 22. The coaching staff must have been telling him that otherwise he wouldnt be coming back because of increased senior opportunities.

Obviously the coaching staff rate him which is good enough for me.

Ahh ****, Daniher article was posted as I was typing and pretty much nixed my 'not guaranteed best-22, too much competition for wing/centre positions' argument. Well I spent so ****ing long typing it, I'm bloody well going to keep it. For posterity.

I wouldn't call Masten slow

Fair enough, I was thinking more of Priddis when I wrote that (at least I didn't question his disposal ;)), I'd have Masten down more at an average midfielder pace but combined with ability to read the play and find space, he gets it done. Faster than Dalziell, certainly, but not in the Judd(pre-groin)/Swift/Dangerfield league for pace. Very Cousins-like, which I'm more than happy with.

But back to Dalziell, I ask again if we really need him. I suppose that comes down to whether or not you think he will add more than Rosa or Houlihan or any other mid getting a regular game really. Rosa has been much improved in the last two seasons (when not injured) and Houlihan got better with each game he played. Personally I wouldn't be dumping either of them for him and can see him only as a depth player who won't be getting regular games, which is a pity because I do like him but in a side that needs him more. He's what, a year younger than Rosa? He may have age on his side compared to Staker but not compared to the players he'd be competing with for a spot. If Rosa decides to go back to Victoria in the next couple of years he might come into calculations more seriously but at the moment all I can see him as is a fringe player. The match committee may see things differently though, and if he comes out next year and rips it up in the WAFL, forces someone else out of the team and proceeds to kick serious arse on a wing or in the centre for the Eagles, I'll be more than happy to admit I was wrong.

I think the deal was the best one we could get, short of Brisbane getting confused and giving us Jonathan Brown and their first round pick for Staker. Good, honest, hard-working players play an important part in all the best teams (see Rowan Jones), but what I'm wondering is what other good, honest, hard-working players (which I consider Houlihan and Rosa to be) is he going to displace? We have an abundance of midfielders and will probably take another one or two in this draft, ideally we'd have taken a crumber or a very classy finisher (but not Hooper) but I guess that wasn't possible (and I can't really think of a crumber from Brisbane I'd want). I don't blame Dalziell for this though and, like I said, would be happy if he could become a regular, important contributor to our side, but he's got a shitload of competition.

....well that was a ****ing long post, sorry for the wall folks.

That would be a great role for him to play. Come to think of it, he could be very similar to Rojo - an important part of our game plan as a half forward who can negate attacking half backs and run them off their feet while maybe kicking the odd goal.

Daniher is obviously reading my posts. Stealing my idea. Will play as a hard leading HFF when given the chance and Subi will suit him nicely. Will need to work on his marking which im sure he will but could have a rich mans RoJo on our hands which will be handy to have

Keeping Lucas' spot on the HFF warm for him for the first 8 rounds, like Hansen for Kennedy.

Not sure about hard leading.......hard running yes.

With the development of our running zone I can see him named on a HFF but basically plays as another winger, runs hard to the HBF to provide a release option for the backline switch of play and then run the ball up the wing.

He'll be asked to run defensively as well as offensively, get back to help the backline but provide a rebound target out wide.

Also help with rotating the wingers in Rosa and Houla.:thumbsu:

Not having to find room for Kerr and Shuey, no (not to mention pick 7). Houlihan and McGinnity would be the casualties I'd wager.

It all depends on how hard he hits the training track over summer, its quite possible that he impresses enough to start round 1. I am very interested to watch him in the pre-season games see how his disposal goes for myself.

No concerns over his efforts on the training track.

He eats beep tests for breakfast.

Even outscored Simon Black and that is no mean feat.

we will be spelling his name right from now on.

Bradd.

I don't know if we should. I mean, isn't it more his dumb arse bogan mum spelt it wrong, rather than the OP that was spelling it wrong. :p

Or is Bradd some kind of special spelling from a weird arse country?
