So I asked AI about THE A5 Dragon....

Vishy’s got a dragon, tucked in his pants,
A tiny little creature, with tiny little glances.
It used to be small, like a speck on a dime,
Getting Mono was magic, it actually grew in no time.

Now it’s still tiny AF, like a bug on a leaf,
But at least it’s got some fire, though that’s quite brief.
It huffs and it puffs, with a valiant roar,
But out comes tepid water, what a bore!

Vishy’s dragon’s fierce, or so it seems,
It dreams of burning tight bushes in fiery beams.
But when it tries to spit, it just can’t decide,
Tepid water dribbles out, as Vishy sighs.

"Mono, what did you do?" Vishy asks with a frown,
"It was tiny before, now it’s just let down!"
Mono shrugs, "It’s still a beast in disguise,
A fire-breathing dragon, with a splashy surprise!"

Vishy adjusts his pants, looking quite vexed,
A tiny dragon with a tiny fire, not quite the best.
Still, he loves it dearly, small and meek,
Even if its dragon breath is more of a leak.

This gag is tedious. Just like you

Really coming in like an additional top 10 draft pick. I’m hoping he’s going to be able to get a bit of the ball. We can only hold so many mids who struggle to get more than 20 disposals
Wouldn’t worry too much about that, problem with a lot of our players who look like they aren’t going to make it is that they’re reliant on being fed the ball. In his brief stints hewetts already shown he can read the ball off a pack and shark it at pace.

Even if he’s not a 30 possession a game accumulator, he’s going to hurt teams when he’s got the ball because he gathers and moves it at pace.

Hewett's talent ceiling really is very close to Reid. I really, really hope he's over his foot injury. His best was as good or better than anyone in his draft class. Hopefully a couple of years of building fitness, his body and AFL speed IQ and we have the finished product. Genuine burst mid who hits the stoppages at speed and is great at reading the ball off hands.

How’s his endurance profile and projected ability to get from content to contest? I see a possible future Ben Cousins loading

Ben cousins along with Shane Crawford are among if not the best repeat effort, high speed endurance runners i've ever seen. I'm not sure you can try putting that sort of expectation on any kid. They would both repeatedly run and carry till the point of being sick and then just go and go again. They are different types of runners as opposed to someone like Braun who could just keep running all day as an endurance athlete.

Hewett needs to work on his endurance, the first part however will be seeing how he comes back from Christmas and whether or not he can complete every session fully as opposed to doing the two main sessions then being on a reduced load / light work for the midweek session.

His foot has to hold up and no matter how hard he trains he's not going to be that type of runner for at least 4 years. That type of running is at least as much mental as it is physical.

Hewett's reading of the play and bursting out the side of stoppages at speed is very Cousins like. The other thing we need to see is how his kicking comes back as it was elite as a junior but he was poor by foot playing through injury. I hope it was just the injury and his kicking is elite however if it's due to the speed of the game and decision making it's much harder to replicate.

Ideally I'd love Hewett to be a full time mid.

I guess the positive is that if he can't build the tank to be a fulltime mid is that he has the tools to be a very dangerous part time forward if he does have to split time.

Fingers crossed his injuries are behind him though and he can grow into that full time elite mid.

High praise indeed.
WCE_phil: you are wise to all things WC.
Can I ask your opinion on 2 things : on current list who you see as the elite 4-6 mids going forward after Kelly, Yeo etc. are retired?
Second: does the current list have the tools to fill all list needs going forward eg. your opinion on should WC be drafting heavy again for another 2-3 years or are the young tools almost in the toolbox or are WC in a position where they need to target OOC and FA players to top off the list?

On question 1. I only see 2 potential elite young mids on our list. Reid and Hewett

On question 2. No the club does not have all of the youth required to fill the needs of the next generation. Roughly half the talent drafted 2021-2024 will fail and drafting will continue in a similar fashion. We are getting to the point where we have enough talented youth that the churn will start to begin with the weaker players taken off the list and replaced with stronger ones.

The club needs to use all mechanisms in place to try and build a contending side. Draft, trade and free agency. The club needs to rebuild back to having a winning culture and with who is still left to fall away we could just as easily be as bad as last year for at least another couple of years if we don't get some more mature and higher level mature talent in.

Article in the West a few days ago noted some players who have interrupted pre-seasons who were able to partake in most full drills (ie. not all) at last weeks session.
Hewett was listed as one of the players (Reid another)

Can someone please tell me that Hewett HAS NOT had a setback over the last few weeks

No setbacks but is being managed midweek precautionarily.

thanks.
Question 1, so with Reid and Hewett probably leaves 2 elite mids short of a serious team?
Qustion 2, so you see WC drafting still being aggressive though draft for the next say 3 years?
History does suggest that almost half of drafted talent fails so can understand that, so your assessment of similar drafting profile will fill that success/fail rate.

Can see the team being around where they are for the next couple of years with a few more wins.
The obvious start to trade and FA players in 2025 who are more mature and higher level talent is C Warner.
Who do you see as obvious targets outside of him over the next 2-3 years?

thanks.

Isn't the hope that we add Warner, without using pick 2/3 which is used on Rodriguez, giving us the two we need?
