I share your feeling and am disappointed the Blues gave him up so cheaply when just a few years ago Port reportedly offered pick 9 and we turned them down. Play him in the ruck resting forward and I think you blokes will be pleasantly surprised by what he adds to your team.

Another good get from the Tigers to kick of the trade season.

I remember the offer from Port Adelaide that year and most didn't think it was overs. Strange most think Pick 31 is overs now.

As I have repeatedly said, Blair knows what he is doing. His track record in making our list go from old and poor to young and talented has been amazing.

He didn't just pluck the name Shaun Hampson out of a hat.

I love this trade for us. Brilliant addition and covers an area we were deficient in.

I've read mixed reactions about the new back up to our Mullet. Don't forget big Ivan was bridesmaid to Jacobs, Tippet and McKernan before he moved to the RFC to stamp his authority as our preferred ruckman. In what many pundits say will be a shallow draft, Hampson is certainly an upgrade from the Big O & Derickx.

If I recall correctly, in chronological order:
- Hampson > Jacobs at Blues, so Jacobs goes to Crows to get a game
- Jacobs > Maric at Crows, so Maric comes to Tigers to get a game

Put it all together, and you'll see that Hampson >> Maric.

Man, we've bent the Blues over on this one! :D

In the end Hampson is what you club needs. Maric is always going to be our main Ruckman. All that Hampson does is provide a bit of depth and insurance if Maric goes down. This draft is looking very shallow so I don't mind if we gave up our second round pick for him. From the impression I get from this years draft is that the talent past pick 20 drops of dramatically.

Interesting on AW tonight after the Dan Richardson interview the Tiges were praised for identifying a player they wanted and going straight out to get the deal done with the club involved with no fuss even if it was a little over the odds, and they pointed out the bad blood with the Bombers and Dogs and how this will drag on and on disrupting both their trade weeks/preparation.

They also pointed out how we had Knights and Chaplin targeted and moved on both straight away (Chaplin mainly) And i remember a fair few back then saying we went to quick. I get a feeling this will be an inspired pick and Hampson will relish the opportunity and grow.

And naturally he will be a 3-4% better player by just putting a decent jumper on for a change.

That's right. I guess it's that he's a few years older now, so the potential tag has dimmed somewhat and given he's not really realised his potential in any significant way since then, perceptions of his worth have fallen. He is however, at a great age for a ruckman and has never had a genuine run at the first ruck role, so given his attributes, there's loads of upside for the Tigers.

I love this trade for us. Brilliant addition and covers an area we were deficient in.

And your recruiting team has been pretty good at doing that recently. Now just get a quality small forward into your line up next year, a second KPF to step up perhaps & your structures are looking real good IMO.

Might I add, Hampson is nearly 2 years younger than Ivan & still learning the skill to develop into a serviceable big man who can float in the forward line & cause damage if our Mullet is sidelined.

We haven't been bent over yet Damo!!!

Yeah you are spot on. A couple of years older and the potential tag disappears and dud tag comes to the forth if he isn't an A grader yet. Despite the fact he only took up football late and is a big who generally don't put it together till this age and has had some injury worries.

Blair has this spot on. The guy is the best thing to happen to us.

Hampson is going to kill it.

Blair is very confident

So he should be. Tell him well done mate.

Long weekend over here in sa and taking tmrw off to recover...my apology.

That's ok... my original post was in jest. I think pick 30 odd is about right... maybe a touch high, but reflective of a weak draft pool, and where our draft picks lie. I actually reckon it's overs for him as a forward, but could be another Maric type masterstroke if played predominantly as a ruckman, which I'd imagine is our plan.

Carlton had/have really good ruckman. Jacobs, Hampson, Warnock and Kreuzer are all number 1 ruckman.

Maric and Vickery got their ass handed to them in the elimination final by Warnock and Kreuzer.

Hampson won't be a back-up he'll at least play 10-15 games next year if not 20 odd. Maric will probably be the one missing out when we play 1 ruckman and Vickery.

Lack of player and football knowledge on here is ridiculous...

I second this, Tigerbob.
Well said.

Competition for the no 1 ruck position coupled with McBean's emergence is a comforting thought heading into another season. It will also put the pressure on Ty!

Of the available rucks he is the best option for us, longer has done nothing at all to date , averages 2 kicks and lions would req a r1 selection, no way. Giles and hammer were only options. He s 25, has ability and should prove a handy back up to Ivan when required. We wouldn't have got him if we got cute with picks , someone would have nailed it with a pick in the 30s before our next one .
