Amongst all the crap postings on his "**** off, Jones" thread on the WB site I found this heartening effort:

I compare Jones to Jay Schulz. Both high leaping marks capable and both slow start to their careers. Schulz flourished with a scenery change. Could also happen to Jones, I don't see any improvement if he stays.

It's a little like Josh Kennedy. Ignored second banana behind Fev, development was stifled, Blues were ordinary. May had ended up defeated like Luke Livingston if we hadn't traded him. Sometimes that change of scenery (and program) is necessary.

Hoping Jones can have an impact for us in 2015 but really hope he learns to go for marks with his hand rather than trying to take every one on his chest.

That could be a hard habit to break.

interesting analogy,
so how do we rate a third tall forward/defender?

what makes a good one? is it really just the third best tall against their third best tall so its little like playing in the seconds?

gunston is rate pretty highly as a third tall... (i think this comes with premierships, even their waddling drinks runner is rated AA)
Im sure Gunston would not have much of an impact against top defenders. He is a super kick, marks well, has a big tank and runs up the ground and maybe he a smart player who runs to the right places??

So where are Jones' strength and weakness? good set shot, solid defensive pressure and pack mark. He is working on his fitness, so i assume it has been a weakness... anybody got anything else?

Gunston is probably the best third tall in the business at the moment.

He is third tall because he isn't big and strong enough to take on the big defenders.

Often the third tall is just a role player, but Gunston, imo surpasses that.

I am very hopeful for jones.

But the whole "jones could be like Shultz" comparison reminds me a lot of the "he's fat and slow but so was Greg Williams" argument

Is he too much like Henderson? I sure hope so.

We haven't seen the best of Henderson yet as he's probably been injured/carrying injuries for the bulk of his time with us.

When was the last time we had 3 KPP's like Casboult - Henderson - Jones in our forward line at the one time, not counting a ruckman playing forward?
