We tried to appease the great MM and get him a ready made forward (jones), back (KJ) and runner (BB).

Jones looks a bust, KJ is yet to prove although there are signs and I'm bullish on BB if we can get a few other things sorted.

The MM appointment has had a dire effect on the whole club. Stop gap recruiting to save his arse.

My hope is he, inadvertently, accelerated our downward spiral so we now do know where we really stand.

KJ & BB look like they will be good players, they have shown us enough to be optimistic and they are young. Jones a concern is a given.
If you think this is stop gap recruiting what did you think about us bringing Duigan, Armfield and Rowe in. Now that's stop gap recruiting, already mature age with only modest upside. That really is recruiting to look after your short term self arse with little regard for the future.

Duigan, like Laidler, showed a lot in his first year, but once MM came in, that was the end for them.

Rowe has been awful this year unfortunately, but he has been forced to hold down the key post because of the frail Jamison body.

Army has been quite good. We can all agree he is not an elite footballer, but geez his output this year has exceeded expectations.

Role players brought into a team on the up as opposed to a key position player brought into a team on the decline because we had no talls. Massive difference there.

Not really. It's not as though we busted a top pick for them.
There are plenty of players picked before and after Armfield (#46) that are no longer on any list........Duigan was a #70 and Rowe at #44 in a weak draft.

Funnily, if Jones had have stayed at The Dogs, he'd probably be doing very well right now given their delivery.
One player is only a sum of the parts and our parts aren't particularly great right now and even worse given the quality players on our injury list.

When a player kicks a goal or stops a goal or lays a superb tackle it doesn't come up on the screen what draft pick he is. Even a no.1 pick once he gets to his club what is the difference to a player picked at 40. They are both on the senior list. In short, every bloody spot on our list is crucial. Carlton decided not to read the book - The Draft and the reasoning and principles you have provided is at the essence of our problem list right now.

Actually he didn't do too badly. Was moved onto White after White had touched up the NB listed Roberts & quelled his impact on the game.

I have a crazy idea, give him another go next week. He just might be better using his physical attributes being led to the ball. Or we can swim with the sholl and delist him and pay him out.

personally I loved what Duigan brought to the club and not just on field

A slow 26-27 yr old with a heap of courage and ordinary skills taking the spot on the list of a kid that could have developed into a regular that's holding down a spot right now just to save Rattens short term arse. He was an extremely poor list decision that characterizes our past list management and where we find ourselves today.

You absolute fool. We were ready to challenge, the recruitment of Duigan was fine. He did contribute greatly to our best win since 1999. It's the recruitment of blokes like Daisy, Jones and Tutt when we WERE NOT ready to challenge and the loss of quality players like Betts, Garlett, Robbo and Waite that has us in this predicament. Not rocket science. Mick decimated the list and now we're screwed.

Disagree

Disagree also.

Not only did he contribute greatly to a fantastic and unexpected finals win, he saved our butts quite a few times with great intercept marks down back and clutch efforts, plus the off-field stuff and effect he must have had on his teammates. He wasn't perfect but he had an impact and it's a shame injury took him like it did.
